Why did you join the Lost Colony project? Interest
was peaked when I learned my surname was a name of interest to the Lost
Colony Project. I have no reason to believe there is any connection with
the Lost Colony but our family history is obscure and we are traced to a
location in Guilford County NC in the early 19th Century.
4.
How is your Y-line DNA line connected to the colonists, the
surnames, Native people or the location? Our surname is reportidly one of the old name on deeded land near
the area of which the Lost Colony members were believed to have
migrated. Also my Admixture DNA test indicates
our DNA contains Native American genetic markers. We have no
history of who the Native American member(s) of the family were.

Please provide a brief writeup (2 paragraphs to one page in
length) on your line!
My
Jackson line is very obscure with little oral history being passed in
the family. Early census reports indicate my family could not read or
write the English language. We are not recorded in any deeds prior to
the 20th Century and apparently owned no land, perhaps due to
the One Drop Rule and our Native American Ancestry. Our earliest known
location and time in the U.S. is 1837 in Guilford County NC where we are
found on local road records having participated as the law required to
help maintain local roads across private land in the Polecat Creek Area
of south Guilford County. My Jackson line migrated from Guilford, NC in
1837-1840 time frame to Hawkins County, TN. My line remained in Hawkins
County for three generations. My Great Grandfather moved to Knoxville,
TN, where my Grandfather, Father, and myself were born and raised. My
Great-Great Grandfather was a cavalryman in Company A 5th and
12th Tennessee Cavalry Battalion. He was a poor famer who
never owned land as were my Great-Grandfather and Grandfather.
