Why did you join the Lost Colony project?
To
see if we can complete our family history by using resources found in
this group.
4.
How is your Y-line DNA line connected to the colonists, the
surnames, Native people or the location?
Our
Y DNA is in the process of completing testing.
5.
Please provide a brief writeup (2 paragraphs to one page in
length) on your line that has DNA tested!
On
the male side of the family, we are descended from Thomas Brooks b. 1784
in NC died 1850-1853 in Greene County TN married 2/3/1808 Mary
Whittenburg in Greene County TN. We
believe he is connected to the Hyde County, NC (Hatteras Island, Lake
Mattamuskeet area in NC) Brooks Families.
Ancestors buried at Gull Rock, NC.
Within
the same general time frame, Stephen Brooks from Mattamuskeet, NC,
Thomas Brooks and Christopher Brooks all came into Greene Co. TN and all
married Whittenburg sisters. I believe these three Brooks men were related, but do not
have definitive proof yet.
The
testing for yDNA has not completed, but is expected in October.

We
are working to be sure that everyone who should be included in the Lost
Colony, is in fact included, and that folks who don’t have a potential
link to the colonists have the opportunity to join a project more suited
to their needs.
If
possible, please reply within the next week or so.
Thank
you very much,
