Phelps, Mo. on Route 66,
1955

Lynda West Hahn Mar,2005. "...taken by my mom, Reva Hunt West, 1955 just before the highway department wiped out the south side of Highway 66 in Phelps, by changing the highway to make a slight curve south of the old highway. On the south side of 66 is the Texaco service station and cafe which were run by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Parkhurst. Their house can be seen just to the right or west of the station. The house was moved to Albatross, just east of the 66-39 junction and on the south side of Highway 66. East of the service station and behind the Texaco sign can be seen one of the old Phelp's stores. At one time my grandparents, M. D. and Viola Hunt had run this store but the last people to do it were Ed and Ella Armstrong, parents of my aunt, Vera Armstrong West."
