Knox County Historical Society
The purpose of the Society is to bring together those people interested in the history of Knox County and the major function is to discover and to collect material which might help to establish or illustrate the history of the area and the study of and the preservation of historical documents, information and objects pertaining to the history of the county.
Regular meetings are held the third Tuesday evening of each month and three special events are observed annually; a family picnic during the summer, a Charter Night Banquet during the fall and a commemoration of the anniversary month of the Society during the spring.  Dues are $1.00 each fiscal year.  All meetings are open to the public.
The Historical Room Museum, located in the lower level of the Knox County Court House in Edina, is sponsored by the Knox County Historical Society.  The official opening day of the museum was Friday, April 14, 1967.  The room is open each Monday and Friday afternoon from one o'clock to four o'clock with volunteer attendants present for the convenience of visitors.  Special arrangements may be made for guided tours on any other week day for clubs, organizations and school groups who might wish to visit the Historical Room.
All items in the Historical Room Museum are either donated or placed on loan to the Society.  Each object is properly identified and indexed.  Recognition is given to the donor and the description and historical information of each item is recorded as fully as possible.  The articles may be loaned or donated by both members and non-members of the Society.
