Fellow Confederates, Please excuse my lateness with this issue of the 'Sharpshooter'; seems that I just couldn't get clicking and needed to get out of 'Dodge'. I went to Sister's in Kansas City and had way too much fun. She shops to rejuvenate I just buy a new tropical plant.
Oct. 2nd & 3rd we judged BBQ at the American Royal. Fantastic eating and great fun.

The Heritage Festival turned out to be a success even with the rain causing a cancellation of the event on Sunday. We had a good membership turnout. Mark, Jim Drane, Ed, Al Phaup, Bill & Mary Hobbs, Randy & April Ivy, and Mike Deering & his wife were all there. I was in and out, due to the BBQ judging event. It is always good to have the Ladies with us; they add dignity to the gathering. The Parson & Gates Camps gave us a lot of support. Darrell Maples, Don Ernst, Jim Harrison, and Wayne Sampson attended and were much appreciated by one and all. Thanks to all and to Mark for the setup & teardown.
The many flags and the uniforms drew the crowd. Wayne Sampson really was great with the way he played the people, particularly the children. He must have been hoarse at the end of the day.
Interest was high among the Festival attendees. Many names of prospective members were gathered. Hopefully, some will be at our meeting this month.
Looking forward to next year's Festival.

Pay Tribute to Your Vets..... Sure would be nice if everyone would do some checking to find additional Confederate Veterans who would qualify as supplemental ancestors. Mark received a 2nd certificate last month, Randy is working on one; Jack has several, as well as Jim Cunningham. Cost is only $10 and that's an inexpensive way to Honor your Veterans.

Trip To The Country.....With this great Fall weather, you and your Lady might find a drive in the country a pleasant way to spend time together. Check out a few cemeteries for CSA Stones and relatives. Could pay off for our List of Vets.

I will end for now.....Lets have a great month!!

Our Editor

My fellow confederates: You may be proud of our camp's participation in the Heritage Festival! We made a very good showing to an interested and enthusiastic public. I was encouraged by so many people knowing that the South represented a firm commitment to basic Christianity. These people were able to connect their present-day concerns with those of our Confederate ancestors. They, too, were frightened of the growing tide of secular humanism which was trying then----and now----to push God and His Son to the sidelines as merely interesting but irrelevant figures. One bright little girl referenced Scripture to me which said: "There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end thereof is death." She knew that meant spiritual death and she understood that the historical and present day trend of replacing God with man, science and government will lead us all to ruin-----even, to eternal ruin. I told her I was very proud to meet her and to know that parents are instilling values found in Scripture.

Our confederate ancestors looked toward the North and could see the growing stains of atheism and the transcendentalist forerunners of the present day "New Age" heresy so passionately embraced by modern-day descendants of the Northern humanists.

We will continue to stand firmly upon the time-proven bedrock of Biblical principles, morals and integrity----the same values our Confederate ancestors believed in and fought for, so very passionately. Let us remember them in prayer and continue to pray for our country---that she will find her way back to the only roots which will produce the genuine Tree of Liberty----a Holy God and His Holy Word!!! DEO VINDICE!! Mark
