GUM...BOZARTH...KINGSBURY
I've been researching the estate of Jacob Gum, son of Shepard GUM, who apparently died before the 1850 census was taken at a fairly young age (apparently wife also deceased). Guardian for the minor William GUM was awarded to Pinckney A. BOZARTHh. Guardian for the minor Alcey, John and Sheppard GUM was awarded to Horace KINGSBERRY. William, Alcey, John and Sheppard all were children of Jacob (deceased). In Sheppard's obituary from 1937, it says he was orphaned at a young age and was raised by relatives. Anyone know the connection between the GUM family and either the BOZARTHs and the KINGSBURYs? I've also run across many, many other guardianships from that time period in that county. Was there some sort of catastrophy in late 1849 or early 1850? The flu, a massacre of some kind???? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mary Denney

He was the eldest son of William ROGERS, yeoman of Aberystruth in the County of Monmouthshire, South Wales. He returned to Wales for a visit in 1832 to settle some family business, then presumably returned to Missouri. I don't know when or where he died, but perhaps he left descendants in Howards County. Thomas Norris b Baltimore Co., Md, 1735/40. On 20 July 1761 married Rose Ann Buckingham b 1749/50 Md. Family tradition is that this Thomas served in the Revolutionary War. John Norris b Laurens District, S. C. around 1780, John Tiner Norris, b1805, S.C., married Dicy Dodson on 31 Oct. 1825 in Howard County, MO. Dicy probably died between 1843 and 1846. In 1846, John T. married Elizabeth Readman in Howard Co., MO. John is listed in the 1840 Census of Howard Co and in the 1850 census in Platte Co., MO. John is listed in the 1860 census in El Dorado Co., CA. Mary Ann Norris, born 25 Aug. 1829 in Howard County, Mo, married Hiram Begley in 1850 in MO and moved with him to El Dorado County, CA in 1850. John's ancestry shown here is from "The Norris Family of Virginia and Maryland, Genealogy of Thomas Norris 1361 - 1930" by Harry Alexander Davis. Washington D. C. 1941. LDS Film #175908. Although Mr. Davis shows a Thomas Norris as being John T."s (John P. Norris in his book) father, I believe that his father was probably John as there is a John listed in the 1830 Census of Howard Co, MO who would be the right age. A William Norris married Rebecca Gregg 23 Aug. 1818 in Howard Co, MO. If you have not seen the above mentioned booklet, you might want to look it up. He takes the Norris family back to medieval times. Any info on the families will be appreciated. Don

LAW
I am looking for anyone who might have information on my ancestors who lived in Howard County, the LAW family. According to Beth Wilson (thank you Beth, my Richard H. Law and his wife Ann bought land in Howard County in 1836 (they supposedly came from England). Also according to the lookup by Beth my Richard H. Law was a Trustor of 6 slaves in 1846. He is listed in the 1840 census in Howard County as R.H. Law His wife Ann was born in 1809 probably in England. He had the following known children:
George H. Law, born 1838
Margaretta Law, born 1840
Emily Law, born 1841
Sophia Law, born 1842
We next see this family in New Orleans on the 1850 census with Ann listed as the head of the household (operating a bording house) but Richard is not with them. I am not sure if he died and the family moved to New Orleans or if Richard and Ann divorced. Since she was listed as Mrs. Law in the census either of these is a possibility. Does anyone out there in Howard County know anything else about this family? Any help on this 20 years brick wall would be appreciated. LAW
I am looking for anyone with information on the Law family that lived in Howard County around 1840. We know that my Margaretta Law who married Thaddeus Damascus Van Horn in New Orleans in 1856 was born in Missouri in 1840. The only Law I see in Missouri in 1840 is an R.H. Law in Howard Co, MO. She appears to have come to New Orleans, LA between 1840 and 1850 when we see her on the Federal Census with her children (listed as Mrs. Law). Other Law names associated with this family include a Fred Law and George W. Law. Does anyone here now anything about the Law family that lived in Howard County around 1840? HARDIN...DAVIS...RAGSDALE...WILCOX
Am looking for the month, day and year of the birth of a Joseph Hardin who was born about 1790, possibly in Kentucky or some state slightly south and/or east. Don't know whether or not he was the same Joseph Hardin who married Jane Davis in Howard County, Missouri on 8 January 1833. Also don't know whether or not Jane (Davis) Hardin was closely related to Joseph Davis who was one of the early settlers of neighboring Randolph Co. MO, Prairie township. More questions: How might the Joseph Hardin who was married to Jane Davis be related to my G-g-g Uncle James Hardin (1831-1911) who, with his wife Louisa (Ragsdale) Hardin, is buried in the Davis Cemetery 1 mile north of Renick, MO? Or how might Joseph Hardin be related to George Sidney Hardin, husband of Margaret Anderson (Wilcox) Hardin (1867-1945)? Could someone please enlighten me on any of these points?

MCNEES...CUMMINS...HEADEW
In 1836, John C. MC NEES filed letters of administration in the estate of Samuel C. MC NEES (wit: Hezekiel Sugart, William Monson). Samuel C. McNees moved from Rutherford County, TN, to MO. His wife was Elizabeth CUMMINS-McNees, the widow of John Cummins also of TN. John C. McNees married Margaret HEADEW(?) in Howard Co in 1837 and then he seemingly vanishes from MO records. Elizabeth was still living in 1836 yet the estate probate also seems to vanish from County records & there is no further mention or I don't know where to look. Elizabeth and Samuel had at least two sons: Calvin McNees and William L. McNees. Elizabeth is found in 1840 living with her daughter, Letitia Cummins SAMUEL in Cooper County. Who was John C. McNees? Where did he go after 1837? Who was Margaret Headew or what is the correct spelling of her surname?

JBOTTS
I'm looking for information on a John BOTTS. I understand that he was to have settled in Armstrong, relocated to Meadville (Linn county) in and then moved again back to Armstrong area. My husband's family has long roots in Meadville. The LIPPITT family bought a farmstead in 1866 from John BOTTS. He reported to have built the house like the one he owned in the Armstrong area. We are currently rehabilitating that farmstead. I'm trying to find out information about Mr. BOTTS prior to 1866. Please respond with any thoughts. Thanks!

WAINSCOTT...BRYAN
I am researching the WAINSCOTT line in Howard, Boone, and Cooper county records, as all was once Boone county. My family lived mostly in the New Franklin area, Franklin as it was called then. I was raised in Boonville, but the majority of WAINSCOTTs came from Franklin and Howard and Boone counties. The WAINSCOTTs originally lived along the Yadkin river in North Carolina, next to the BRYANs, and near the Boone families. BRYAN was the maiden name of Daniel Boones wife. Then they went to Madison county Kentucky, there is oral history that they went with Daniel Boone, then on into what is now Boone/ Howard County. My father was Roland WAINSCOTT and his father was Vernie WAINSCOTT and his father was Richard WAINSCOTT. As there were many WAINSCOTTs in the area, I am trying to get the lineages straight. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

LIGHTFOOT...ROSE
I am looking for a marriage record of Mary H. LIGHTFOOT and John ROSE. Mary lived in Howard County with her family (father Henry Taylor LIGHTFOOT)from 1820 to about 1829. She married John ROSE about 1828. They then moved on to Clark Co., AR. Henry T. and family joined her there about 1833. Can anyone tell me where to locate that marriage record? Or, can anyone tell me if Howard Co. courthouse records were burned and if so, are there church records? This is my current brick wall. Any help is greatly appreciated. BECKNELL...CRIBBS...EVANS...COLLINS
Looking for info on William Becknell and family. He moved to the Boone's Lick area prior to 1814. Becknell married Mary Cribbs. Their daughter, Cornelia married an Evans, later James Collins. Becknell was the founder of the Santa Fe Trail in the early 1820s. The family moved to TX probably in the 1840s. My info says they lived in Howard Co, but it was so large in the early days that they could have been anywhere from Boone Co to Jackson CO. Also interested in who Mr. Evans was. Thanks! Roberta

REDMAN...VALETINE
Help! Can you suggest any way to find the parents name of my g-grandfather, Francis Redman (1824 - 1860) who married Josephine Valentine in Franklin, Howard County, MO on Nov 28, 1852? Are there any school records that might contain this information? It is possible that he was the son of either Joshua A. Redman or his brother William Winn Redman. Both of these men were prominent citizens of Howard county in the 1830 - 1850 timeframe. One (Joshua) was a doctor and state representative, and the other (William Winn) was a Methodist preacher. Thanks, Jack

DUFFIELD...HAUCKMEIER...WHEELER
I am trying to establish that Frederick A. DUFFIELD was the father of Frances Ann DUFFIELD born 14 March 1888 in Howard County. All genealogical information I have says that Frederick married Mary HAUCKMEIER (Hockmeyer, Hoffmeyer) sometime in or before 1880. They had three daughters: Elizabeth D. (b 1882), "Gussie" (b 1885) and Frances Ann (b 1888). Frederick had, I think, been married earlier and had six children: John, Josephine, May B., Joseph, Juliana and George W. Frederick would have died before 1889. In that year Mary married Franklin Wheeler. In the 1900 census, I find "Lizzie" and "Gussie" living with Mary and Franklin Wheeler; however, my grandmother, Frances, is not listed there. Anyone who might have information on these children of Mary Hauckmeier Duffield Wheeler please contact me.
