RECTOR...DODSON
I am looking for any information that is available on Margaret RECTOR. Margaret was the wife of John William DODSON (I think he was known as William and not John), they were married in Howard County May 3, 1839. According to the 1850 Howard County census, Margaret was born about 1820. That record shows they had two boys living with them at the time. I understand they had several other children but can find no record of them. I am looking for Margaret's parents, her siblings, her place of birth, her death date, where she is buried, etc. Her husband, John William may have died between 1850 and 1860. In 1860 the two boys were in the Rich THURMAN household.

FORT...LOWRY...JACKSON
I wondered if anyone has any on the JACKSON (first name unknown) who m. Ann LOWRY, who was b. abt. 1832. Ann LOWRY was my g-g-grandmother. Their dtr., Anna Belle JACKSON, b. 2 Dec 1853, m. Henry Harrison WAYLAND, b. 2 Sep 1843. Ann LOWRY m. second to a FORT when her husband JACKSON was killed in the war with Mexico. My father remembers that Annabelle had two brothers named John and Allie JACKSON.

On p. 77 of the 1870 Randolph Co., MO census is found H.T. FORT, age 53, b. TENN; and Ann FORT, age 38; J.T. (probably John) FORT, age 16; Elsie (?) FORT, age 1 (female); Bell JACKSON, age 17 (my g-grandmother); A. JACKSON, age 12, female. Mr. Fort was a partner in the haystacker manufacturing plant and the census shows a real estate worth of $12,000, which is substantial for right after the Civil War. Ann married an rather older man, but men were short after the war and she needed support for herself and her children.

In the same 1870 Randolph Co. census, p. 61 of the Saltspring Township, in the household of J.C. SHAFER, along with two persons identified as teachers, are found Bell JACKSON, age 18 female, and John FORT, age 16, male, and R. (Rebecca) WAYLAND, age 19 female. Obviously, these three were counted twice in the census as they were away in boarding school. One can guess (and it is fun to do so) that Rebecca introduced her schoolmate Bell to her brother, Henry, who was a mature civil war veteran, age 27, and they were married. I don't have anything on the FORT and LOWRY lines either. Any help appreciated. John Wayland

TOLSON...STEPHENS
I am seeking info on my g.g.g. grandparents, Nicholas STEPHENS and his wife Rebecca TOLSON STEPHENS. Her parents were John and Rebecca TOLSON of Howard Co. I have the marriage record of Nicholas and Rebecca (Nov 6, 1844), his probate information (d. Jul 12, 1849)and some census records. However, I cannot find anything about his parents. He was born Jan. 19, 1809; died at age 40. Nicholas and Rebecca were married by Rev.Thomas Payton STEPHENS in 1844 in Howard Co. but I cannot confirm that Thomas was the father. Thomas had a connection with Old Cedar Creek Church in MO. The administrator to BOTH Nicholas and Thomas P. STEPHENS' wills was William E. STEPHENS; who is he? Thomas died Apr 2, 1865. They both died in Callaway Co. MO. Have read lots about Thomas but never a reference to Nicholas. Our family has always been told that we had some connection with Stephens College in MO. I think Thomas was related to the founder of the college through his brother, Elijah (of Boone Co,MO). I wrote to the college and received some info but nothing refers to Nicholas. Nicholas is buried in Old Brick Providence Cemetary in Callaway Co; Thomas P. is buried in Stephens private cemetary in Callaway Co. Any help in putting the puzzle pieces together would be appreciated. Jan Mueller [email protected]

NEWTON...BLAKE
In tracing the NEWTON ancestry I have come across information that my G,G,G,G,Great grandfather had a son named Kenneth NEWTON and a son-in-law named George BLAKE that sued Kenneths' brother William for a share of another, single brothers estate. They sued from Howard County, Missouri on Aug 23,1825. As they sued from there they must have lived there. I would like to have info on them or any other NEWTON ancestors from that area. I have a wealth of info on the NEWTONs from Ky., and Va. to share with anyone who would need it. Thank you, Patricia from Florida

ANDERSON...WALKER...NOBLES...EDWARDS...LOWE
My grandfather, Samuel Price ANDERSON was born in Howard, Co. MO., May 15, 1861. His mother was Almira (Myra) EDWARDS who had moved to MO from IL. I am trying to find information on Samuel's father. The only clue I have comes from Samuel's death certificate which gives his father's name as Doak ANDERSON. I question this information as I have been unable to find any information on a Doak ANDERSON. There was a Josiah ANDERSON, from VA, who lived next door to the family Myra Edwards lived with so I feel there must be a connection. Samuel had an older half-brother, Charlie W. ANDERSON, born in 1859; and a younger sister, Sarah ANDERSON, born 1863. She married Wm or Ben Lowe. Myra Edwards Anderson later married a Clark NOBLES in the home of Jesse EDWARDS, and they had a daughter, Rose born in 1869. On Oct. 10, 1889, in Salisbury, MO Samuel ANDERSON married Nellie Dye WALKER, daughter of Greenberry and Elizabeth Beard WALKER who had moved to Charition Co., from Hardin CO, KY. I would appreciate any information you might have on these families.

STACY...STACEY...THOMPSON
STACY/STACEY - Looking for any information on John Wesley STACY/STACEY. Born abt. 1856/57 somewhere in Missouri...very possible Howard County. I understand there were a few STACY/STACEY families here. I do not know his parents' names; I do know they too were born in Missouri. it is believed by some members of my family that there was a large STACY/STACEY farm where they lived. John married in 1891/92 a 15 year old Texas girl, EMMA (possible name: Frances Emmeline THOMPSON). In 1892/93, the couple had a daughter in Missouri; her name was Lee. By 9/23/1896, the family was in Waco, Texas; this is where my grandfather, William Wesley, was born. If anyone has any information pertaining to this family, please contact me at my e-mail address: [email protected]. Thank y'all very much for any help you can provide.

DRAKE
Researching my family line of DRAKEs. Judge David Rose DRAKE came from Bullitt Co, Ky and eventually settled in Clinton Co., Mo. First, however, they stayed in New Franklin, Howard Co., Mo long enough for their daughter Harriet Columbus DRAKE to be born in 1829. I'm just trying to get the documentation instead of solely relying on family tradition. Families that might have come with him and perhaps stayed in that area are the BURCKHARDTs and perhaps the ROSEs.

REED...TOLSON...GILVIN
My gggrandfather was Washington A. REED, born in Kentucky, and married Paulina TOLSON in Howard County, Missouri, 17 Mar 1849. He, his wife and daughter Sarah appeared in the 1850 Howard County, MO census. Their daughter Anne M. (my ggrandmother) was born in Kentucky 22 May 1853. I can find them nowhere in any 1860 census but there was a son, Washington, Jr. born in 1864 in Missouri. Paulina appears in the 1870 census as head of household and she remarried Daniel GILVIN in 1875.

I cannot find what happened to Washington A. REED. I thought perhaps he was killed in the Civil War but I haven't gotten very far in that direction, a few leads but no pay dirt. I did find a W.A. REED buried in the Confederate Cemetery at Alton, IL but after a month of searching I found him to have been William A. REED. Of course he may have died, been murdered or just disappeared. Who knows? I am also looking for the ancestry of Washington A. REED and Paulina TOLSON. Thanks a bunch!
