([email protected]) Apr 19 1997
I have an ancestor Abraham KENDALL that moved from Hardin County KY to
Scotland Co., MO prior to the Civil War. There are many families in
Scotland County, that came from that central KY area prior to the war. He
married "Millie" Ellen GILMORE there in 1858. They moved by February of
1860 to Boonesboro in Howard County where their first three children
William Thomas KENDALL, Lydia Anna "Annie" KENDALL and Walter Addison
KENDALL were born. By March of 1866 they returned to Hardin County, KY.
First, I am interested in seeing if there are any fmailies from the Hardin
County area that may have relocated to Howard County, particularly
Boonesboro prior to the Civil War. Next, I would be interested in the
Civil War participation of residents of Howard county during the Civil
War. In a court case in the 1890's a newspaper article mentioned that
Abraham KENDALL had served in the Confederacy. I would like to communicate
with anyone on KENDALL, GILMORE, MUDD, COFFMAN or other central KY
families they know came from the Kentucky counties of Hardin, Meade, and
Nelson to live in Howard County or Boonsboro specifically.HUBBARD Pace Conner

Nelson CROWDER was born in North or South Carolina (South Carolina
according to his military enlistment papers and gravestone) on August 8,
1794. It is also recorded as February 8, 1796 and 1799 per family history.
I do not have any information on his ancestors. On February 26, 1801 he
was "bound out as an orphan" in Blount Co., Tennessee to Robert
Shields (Co. Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of Blount Co.) It states
that Nelson was six years old and to be bound until he reached the age of
21. It has been suggested that Robert SHIELDS was originally from Sevier
Co., Tennessee and owned and operated a bloomery forge in Tuchaleechee
Cove in Blount Co., before moving his family to northern Georgia in
the early 1800's. In 1814, Nelson was found in Winchester, Franklin Co.,
Tennessee where he joined Capt. Wiley Martin's 3rd Regiment of Tennessee
Riflemen. Nelson served 5 years in the War of 1812 enlisting on September
1, 1814 and was discharged on August 18, 1819. About six weeks after his
discharge from the service he married Susannah COGDILL/COGSDIL (October 3,
1819) in Howard Co., Missouri. Susannah was born on May 4, 1799 in TN or
KY the daughter of Frederick and Catherine COGDILL. It has been told that
she was "part Indian and raised by the Indians" (However, this has yet to
be documented). Their children are as follows: Anna CROWDER b.Abt 1821 in

I am searching for information on two doctors who I believe are brothers:
Dr. Abram WALLING & Dr. Croel WALLING. Abram was born about 1807 in New
York; in 1839 he attended the Univ. of Louisville medical school. In 1840
he married in Caldwell County, Kentucky Mary Jane ASHBY; they immediately
went to Carrollton, Carroll County, MO and lived there until about 1858.
They were active members of the Christian Church in Carrollton. Abram was
probably a southern sympathizer. In 1858 the family left Carrollton and
went to Ft. Worth, Texas, where Abram, according to family tradition,
died of a snakebite in 1860. After Abram's death, Mary Jane and the
children moved back to Carrollton. Abram and Mary Jane ASHBY WALLING had
four children: Ophelia (married Wm WINFREY and remained in Carrollton),
Croel (who lived most of his adult life in Oklahoma), Edmonia, and Vasco.
Only Ophelia and Croel had descendants. I assume that Abram's son Croel
(born 1847 in Carrollton) was named for the Dr. Croel WALLING. Dr. Croel
WALLING was born about 1810 in New York, but I have no further record of
him until 1843 when he married Sicily JOHNSON in Howard County, Missouri.
Sicily died in 1850, and in 1853 Croel married Margaret STANTON in Platte
County, Missouri. There are land records for Dr. Croel WALLING in
Livingston County Missouri in the 1850s. In 1870 Croel & Margaret Walling
are in the Buchanan County, Missouri census. Croel died before the 1880
census, but I don't know when. Dr. Croel Walling and his first wife
probably had at least two children: Sicily and Addie; Dr. Croel Walling
and his second wife had four children: Novazembly, Loran, Cora, and Lucy.
I would be especially grateful to learn the death date of Dr. Croel
WALLING and, of course, the parents of Drs. Croel and Abram.EVANS...CREWS...CRAIG...BANNELL...CHALMERS Celia Springer Feb 25

I am researching a group of related families related families that arrived
in Howard County, MO, about 1820 from Kentucky. They lived in the county
for a number of years and then scattered to several different counties in
Missouri. Three brothers, James, David and Hiram Reed arrived with three

married Gabriel Silvey in 1823 in Howard Co. John R. married Charlotte
Barnes in 1832 in Howard Co. Felix G. married Nancy Mc Daniel in Cole Co
in 1834. Charlotte Barnes is probably the daughter of John and Milly
Barnes who died in Howard Co in 1835 and 1837. Hiram Reed moved to Macon

I'm seeking information on the two before mentioned families. John H. Gess
married Sarah A. Hargrave, July 03, 1859 in Ray Co., Missouri. John Gess's
father was Capt. Wm. H. Gess, Sarah's father was Samuel Hargrave of North
Carolina. I have no information on the Hargrave family of Ray Co., and
would greatly appreciate anything. The "Gess" name is often spelled;
Guess, Gee, Gass, Gest, Gist..., and several other variations. They were
originally the Gass family from Ky. Roxann Gess-Smith in Salem,
Oregon.OWEN...PAGE...MANNING...GRAPES...DAVIS Linda Manning Jan 3
