Cowan School

A rude frame building was erected in Hickory Township in 1846. This was the first school built in Hickory Township. It stood on the SE quarter of Section 29, township 61, rage 37. The first teacher was a man named Elmer who was born in New York.

These names appeared in an old autograph album belonging to 12yr old Herbe Joseph McDonald (born Dec. 31, 1873). The album covers the years 1885-1888. Some of these listings are relatives; others are classmates.
