Robbi Ryan

Robbi Ryan

Biography:

Robbi Ryan has been a genealogist and story-collector all her life, since her two Grandmothers told family stories when she was a pre-teen. She worked part-time as a genealogy hobbyist off and on for most of her adult life. Her favorite part of genealogy has always been the stories associated with the people -- much more interesting than the birth, marriage, and death dates, don't you think?

A professional genealogist since 2008, when she began accepting clients and sub-contracts with small-to-medium projects, she retired from "corporate America" in 2012 and began her full-time "retirement career" as a personal historian and genealogist.

Since 2011 years she has moved steadily toward the Personal History side of her business and now works almost exclusively in that niche, capturing the stories of clients and their family members while they’re still alive to provide the richness of detail and explanation so often unavailable through  genealogical research.

In 2014 she added a training arm to her business to help others understand the importance of saving their stories, and to help them get started capturing their own. Classes currently offered include a 90-minute introductory class on writing your own autobiography, an 8-week guided autobiography class, and an introduction to personal history writing for genealogists. She speaks regularly to social, church and civic organizations on the importance of saving the stories of their lives. One of her favorite quotes is “Everyone has a story to tell. Have you told yours?”

Research Specialties

Her research specialties focus on Nebraska research of the 19th and 20th centuries including census records, city directories, courthouse records, cemetery research, newspaper and obituary searches, and photographing headstones and local sites important to you throughout Nebraska.
