Butler Cemetery is located in the middle of section 17 in Cypress Township in the south-central portion of Harrison County. From Bethany, take highway 69 south exactly 5 1/2 miles from the 69 and 136 intersection on the southwest side of town. There will be a house on the right (west) side of the road and a gate which allows access to a grass lane on the left (east). Go through the gate and up the lane to the top of the hill. This lane will have a fence on both sides. There will be another gate at the top of the hill. Go through this gate, angle to the left and follow the ridge line to the cemetery. Considering its location, it is accessable and fairly well maintained. The property owner allows access, but PLEASE close all gates!

A 1962 survey stated that there were "77 visible graves". This new survey was conducted by Phil & Kathi Stewart on Nov 8, 2004 and only 60 could be located. Two stones were unreadable. It is possible that some burials were moved to other cemeteries after 1962, but it is that other stones have fallen and are now under the ground. Therefore, this should not be considered a complete list of burials.
