Greene County Archives' Bulletin Number 4, 3rd Edition, April 1995
An Index to Naturalization Records in the Greene County (Missouri) Circuit Court
Our thanks to Robert Neumann, Archives Supervisor for Greene County, for permission to put this data online, and our thanks also to those acknowledged in the original for their hard work in compiling the data: John and Mary Ellen Gifford, Amy Langston.
Explanation of the five columns of information in the listings:
Column 1 ("Last Name") gives the surname of the person. Realize that for a variety of reasons, names may not be spelled as you expect.
Column 2 ("First Name") gives the first name of the person. May be listed differently for DI and N.
Column 3 ("Origin") lists the country of origin. Be aware that borders and nations change; you may wish to consult a historical atlas or history book to find where the listed country was at that time. See below for key to abbreviations.
Column 4 ("Date") gives the date of the document.
Column 5 ("Type") gives the type of the document. (N=naturalization, DI=declaration of intent).
Column 6 ("Source") gives reference to source. This may be listed one of three ways.
- P 191 would mean volume P, page 191--this means the record is in a book.
- 35 305 or OB3 104 would also be a book reference.
- Orig means that it is the original paper document.
- OB3 57*, a combination of a book reference and an asterisk, means that the record is in both book and paper form.
