Jackson County was formed in 1826 from Lafayette County; the county seat is Kansas City. Greenwood, Maple Gardens, Milton, Moscow Winnetonka, and Winnwood were absorbed by Kansas City. Kansas City, KS (county seat)

KANSASCITY-L (started November 1997) by Nancy Sween, is a mailing list for anyone with interest in the greater Kansas City area, both in Kansas and Missouri. The primary focus is history and genealogy, but other topics about growing up in or traveling around Kansas City, and notices of current meetings, organizations, or newspaper articles about the Kansas City area are welcome from list members.
