ON DALRYMPLE FARM, GLADDEN VALLEY

The cemetery has not been used for many years.
I have been told there may be around 100 graves here.'

BOYCE, JAMES SAMUEL, JR.
     May 29, 1820 - Oct. 17, 1868.    Son of James Samuel Boyce, Sr. and _____. Born in Ripley Co. IN. James S. reared his family along & near Gladden Valley, Dent County near Shannon County.
BOYCE, LYDIA LEWIS    abt. 1822 -  Oct. 17, 1873.    Daughter of John Lewis & Thankful Short.  Born in Shannon Co MO; Married 2nd John O. Jarrett, 1871, Dent County. Children of James S. & Lydia: Sarah (1842-1909, m. Joel Shelton, 1858, Dent County both buried at Cage Cemetery), William (8/20/1846 MO - 12/26/1863, shot at age 17, buried at near old old East Schoolhouse), Thankful (b. 4/6/1848 MO, m. Rufus Holloman, 1866, Dent County), Mary Elizabeth (1853-1931, buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery, m. Joseph Thomas Halbrook, 1867, Dent County) and James Alexander Boyce (1856-1927).

James Samuel Boyce, Sr., born about 1790-94 - died early 1840s, settled what was then Ripley County and had children James S. (m. Lydia Lewis), Sarah (m. William Roberts), Mary (m. William Lewis, c1844), Alexander (10/14/1828 - d. 1864, Civil War in AR, m. Thankful Lewis, 8/11/1853, Dent County).

BOYCE, JAMES ALEXANDER     May 5, 1856 - Apr., 1927     'Uncle Jim'.    Son of James Samuel Boyce, Jr. & Lydia Lewis. Married abt. 1856 Ithenia Isabell 'Nannie' Lawson (10/9/1860 TN - 7/15/1942; buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery). They had three children: Ada T. (m. Joe Lewis), John J., & Minnie O. Boyce. He reared Josiah Alvin 'Joe' Lewis. He was a farmer on Gladden Valley, a very well known fiddler.

BOYCE, JOHN JAMES     Jul. 12, 1884 - Sep. 15, 1894.    Son of James Alexander Boyce & Ithenia Isabell Lawson. 

BOYCE, MINNIE OLFIELDER     Jul. 21, 1871 - Oct. 23, 1880.    Daughter of James Alexander Boyce & Ithenia Isabell Lawson. 

HUSBAND & WIFE:  Married 1882 Dent County
EAST, WILLIAM THOMAS
    Sep. 28, 1858 - Oct. 19, 1938.    Son of William East & Lucinda ____. Born at Richmond W. VA; died at Custer MO, at the home of daughter Katie Welch. He moved to Missouri with his parents as small boy and spent the rest of his life in Dent County. He converted in 1913, joined Jadwin Church. He was a farmer near Jadwin.

RITCHEY     Died Jan. 6, 1924     Children: Oscar, Thomas & Edward 'Jack' - all moved to Oregon; Robert ( moved to Texas), Lucinda Katherine 'Katie', m. 1) Joe Lewis & 2) Eddie Welch, she is buried at Miner Cemetery), Willie (buried at Empire Cemetery), Dollie East Melton & Rose Waytus - both buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Albert (moved to St. Joseph), Ruth and three children who died young. 

HALBROOK CHILDREN     No dates.    Children of Joe Halbrook & Mary Boyce.

HODGES, BERNADINE     No dates.    Daughter of Arthur Hodges. (Parents buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery)

HODGES, CLAUDINE     No dates.    Daughter of Arthur Hodges (son of Child of Samuel 'Green' Hodges & Tryphana E. Lewis.) 

HODGES, INFANT    No dates.    Child of Samuel 'Green' Hodges & Tryphana E. Lewis.

HOWELL, CHILD    No dates    Child of John & Sally Howell (parents buried at Jadwin Cemetery)

JARRETT, LYDIA BOYCE LEWIS    No dates.    Daughter of John Lewis. Married 1) James S. Boyce, m. 2) John O. Jarrett, 1871, Dent County

LEWIS, JESSE     No dates.    Husband of Sarah Bugg (buried at Rector Cemetery); parents of James Jesse Lewis (buried at Jadwin Cemetery), John Franklin Lewis (buried at Rector Cemetery), A. J. 'Joe' Lewis, Lula E. Lewis (m. James Prater, buried at Upper Indian Creek Cemetery) and Zena Lewis (m. Ike Epstein, buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery).

HUSBAND & WIFE:  Married about 1899.
LEWIS, ALVIN JOSIAH 'JOE'
     Died Oct. 1929.    Son of Jesse & Sarah Lewis. Died of typhoid fever. Joe later married Lucinda Katherine 'Katie' East on Mar. 14, 1915 at Rector; children Arley, Donna (m. Eldo Schafer, buried at Miner Cemetery) and Alvin Joseph (died in infancy, buried at Akers Cemetery). Katie later married Eddie Welch in 1933 at Rolla; she buried at Miner Cemetery.
LEWIS, ADA TEXANNA BOYCE     Aug. 12, 1883 - Apr. 18, 1913.    Daughter of James & Nannie Boyce. Children of Joe & Ada: Myrna Ianthia Lewis (m. Willie Lee Jones) & Vera Arnie Lewis (m. Jack Farris - both buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery), James Vernon Lewis and one child who died in infancy.

LEWIS, INFANT    No dates.    Infant of Joe Lewis & Ada Boyce.

HUSBAND & WIFE:  Married about 1844.
LEWIS, WILLIAM
      Born about 1825.    Son of John Lewis  & Thankful Short. Moved to Dent County 1840 from TN, lived Gladden Valley & Barren Fork
LEWIS, MARY
BOYCE    Born May 5, 1825.    Daughter of James Boyce, Sr. Born in Indiana.  Children Lydia Mary Lewis (m. George W. Willis), Samuel Lewis, Alexander Lewis (m. Mary S. Wofford, buried at Empire Cemetery), William James Lewis (m. Lois Summers, buried at Empire Cemetery), Mary E. Lewis (m. Nathan Moffitt, 1873, Dent County), Tryphana Emily Lewis (m. Samuel Green Hodges, buried at Akers Cemetery) and Jefferson D. Lewis (m. Martha A. Hodges, 1881).

ROBERTS, SARAH     1817 - 18___?    Daughter of James Boyce Sr.. Married William Roberts in Indiana.

STEELMAN, IDA HODGES    No dates.    Daughter of Samuel 'Green' Hodges & Tryphana E. Lewis Hodges (parents buried at Akers Cemetery. Wife of Jim Steelman (who d. Arkansas). Mother of Captain Hodges (buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery- Salem)
