NEAR INDIAN TRAIL STATE PARK, SLIGO

GAMBLIN, JOSHUA 1812 - _____.
Eldest son of James Gamblin & Nelly Noel.. He was born in Hopkins Co KY and
moved to Missouri in abt. 1859 or 1860 with his wife and one son, William Henry,
(1835-1889) and his son's family. It is believed he died several years after he
came to Missouri.
GAMBLIN, JANE MINERVA 'JINSY' OLDHAM
No dates. From FAG/Thelma Gamblin: Little is known about Jane
or "Jinsey" as she was known, some sources say Lensey was her last name some say
it was Oldham. She may have married Joshua Gamblin on August 25, 1832 and moved
to Missouri in 1859/60. She and Joshua had one son William Henry born in 1835.
She lived on the farm until her death.

FUCHS, ANNA

Mar. 3, 1840 - Aug. 12, 1920.
Born in Switzerland. No children. She helped raise a nephew, Arthur
Schermesser.
GAMBLIN, WILLIAM HENRY 1835 - Mar. 19, 1889. Born in Graves Co KY. Son of Joshua Gamblin, II & Jane Minerva 'Jinsy' Oldham. Married his neighbor, Fredona Bradford Green Aug. 1, 1853 at Graves Co KY. (She later married William C. Huitt ; both buried at Union Cemetery). Moved to Dent County from KY at close of Civil War and settled 10 miles E. of Salem. (other source says moved in 1860 and settled on a farm in the Crooked Creek area). He was predeceased by his parents and an infant daughter. They are all believed to be buried here. Veteran of Civil War, Confederacy; 1st Reg Conf Inf Co K, Rank in: Private; Rank out: Corporal. They raised twelve children: James Madison (1855-1929, m. Nancy Minerva ____ (1848-1930); Caroline Connie (1858-1949); Martha Jane (1859 - infancy); Joshua (1860-1920, m. Sarah Margaret ____ (Mar 1861-1900); William Thomas (1863-1943, m. Martha Jane Brockes); Louisa Elizabeth (1865-1922, m. in 1883 Valentine Packwood Gearhart (1850-1932) and had 10 children); Richard Jackson (1868-1918); S. M. (1869-1880); Cassie (1870 - infancy); John 'Henry' Bradford (1873-1952); Rispie (1876-1899, m. Martillus Huitt in 1890. They had one son, Frank) and Lucy Alice 'Ally' (1878-1957, m. John Henry Moser, buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery).
GAMBLIN No dates. There are four or five graves here believed to be those of Gamblin family.

Lucinda Ellison (b. 1818) born in Jackson Co OH. married Apr. 25, 1834). 'Civil War Co.
H 1st Ohio, Union.' Moved to Dent County from Jackson Co. OH. Brother of Rachel Ann, Mary, Leucretia, Silas James,
Sarah Jane, Catherine & William Allen Nail. F.A.G.
has May 2, 1837, Jefferson Co OH; Aug. 19, 1920, Missouri.
Civil War, Union Army; enlisted Sep. 10, 1862 in Co H 117th
Inf Regt; transferred to Co H, 1st Heavy Artillery Regt, Ohio on Aug. 12, 1862.
Mustered out of this unit on Jul. 25, 1865 at Knoxville TN. Unit numbers were
1740 and 1718.
NAIL, MARY RACHEL HORTON
Nov. 26, 1839 - 1906.
F.A.G. has Mary Ann Horton. Daughter of James Horton &
Sarah Stephenson. Born in Jackson Co OH; died in Dent Co MO.
Children: Oscar; Cora E. Schermesser; Sarah
Josephine (m. William T. E. Worley, mother of Dick Nail
'Bowers', buried at Warden Cemetery); Margaret
'Maggie' (m. C. F. Farney, 1895, Dent County by
Rev. John Worsham) and Ella Emma (m. Charles Frank Hogue, 1891, Dent County
by B. V. Gregory, J. P., buried at Sligo Cemetery).
NAIL, OSCAR OTIS Feb. 8, 1875 - Mar. 30, 1918. Son of John Henry Nail & Mary Rachel Horton. Born at Jackson Co OH. Traveled by covered wagon from Ohio to Missouri.
RIGSBY, WILLIAM or JAMES No dates. Died in Civil War.
SCHERMESSER, CORA EDITH NAIL Aug. 9, 1869 - Jan. 17, 1921. Daughter of John Henry Nail & Mary Rachel (or Ann) Horton. Married in 1887 in Dent County Joseph Schermesser (1862 - Nov., 1942, by Rev. John M. Ashlock; he is buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery) in 1887, Dent County by Rev. John M. Ashlock . They had seven children: Wilbur 'Anton' (m. Irene R. Ritchhart of Sligo, 7/1920, d/o Edward C.Ritchhart & Della V. Freeman; Irene d. 5/23/1988, is buried at Mount Laki Cemetery, Klamath Falls, OR); Joe Jr., Arthur T. (m. Beatrice Blackwell, died as a young man, buried at Blackwell Cemetery); Catherine (m. William Walker, is buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery); Mary (m. Francis Walker); Anna (m. Lawrence Hammonds, is buried at North Lawn Cemetery) and an infant who died at the family home on the Schermesser farm about 1880.
