Dearest Brother:
In my recent letter to you, you understand that we are with you in best wishes, and we thank you for the ocean voyage fare. We announce to you that we will soon leave our beloved Fatherland - Deutschland, and the eye sees in the unfathomable distance unmeasurable great waters, then the fields like acres of ground and furrows divided, and in farthest view we see the mountains.
The ship Mountaineer if to be sent to New Orleans, and should, day after tomorrow, the 20th, leave the harbor of Le Harve, where we happily arrived on the 18th and are staying at the Hotel de Stuttgart, where our conductor from Strasbourg came with us.
The arrangements for this trip, the separation from friends and acquaintances and our dear Fatherland has been harder than the trip thus far. On the 13th we traveled by train from Laupheim to Stuttgart, there we stayed only fifteen minutes, then to Kehl through the Schwarzwald with the thick growth of cedar trees. At Kehl we had to spend one day and two nights. We then crossed the Rhine to Strasbourg. Here we saw the Bridge Crossing the Rhine and in one hour were in Strasbourg. Here we had to spend one day and we made the most of it, seeing the most unusual tower building. How I wish you could be with me, such greatness in Astronomy, and much more to see, as the Academy of Natural Sciences, Minerals and Plants, also Science of Man, with human bodies shown and parts of bodies. Then the Tower with a beautiful view.
At 9 a.m. we left by train and soon saw the richest land in all of France, at least seven or eight time, passed through tunnels through the Wogesang Mountains. By Wednesday we reached Paris, the prettiest and most glorious city of all of France, yea Europe. It is indescribable. After I had walked my feet to exhaustion the train left for Havre and the ship Mountaineer I mentioned above, where I was assigned my stateroom.
In the hope of a happy reunion with you, my dear brother, and the hope of my small circle of friends that, after many years, to return and meet again.
