Little Shoal
Graveyard
Located: Section 35, Twp. 52, Range 32. Public burying
ground, 2 1/2 miles northwest from Liberty. Many of there
records were taken in 1937. October, 1948, a check over
the graveyard was taken and many of the 1937 records were
nowhere to be found. Some stones entire gone, the
graveyard a mass of weeds and in a deplorable condition.

Elder William Thorpe, a minister of the gospel of the
regular Baptist church.
The first pioneer who smoothed the rugged path of the
Baptists in the
western wilds of Missouri. Organized the first
association in Upper Missouri.
Little Shoal Baptist church was organized in Clay County,
Missouri, May 28, 1823.
It was first a log church building and later replaced by
a brick church.
The above article was copied from the head stone at the
grave
of Elder William Thorpe. About 10 years ago, a check of
burial records
in Little Shoal Graveyard in Oct. 1948, no trace of the
slab on which
this inscription was made could be found. Only the record
of
Elder Thorpe's birth and death was found on the base of
the movement.
