Note from Lois Mitchell: My g. grandfather Julius Edgar lived in a cave when he first went to Kansas and didn't like having to share his frying pan with a rattlesnake. Lucinda Fances had never even dressed herself before moving to Kansas. The slaves cared for her. She used to tell my mother about loving to listen to their singing.
