This cemetery is located off of AA highway in Southern Jefferson County. It is located about 25 feet to the side of the old white church, that the boy scouts use now as a meeting hall. Take 61 south to AA & make a left, like you are going to Rush Tower, as soon as you turn onto AA, there is the white church house. You cannot see the burial plots from the road.
It is just a small fenced in area where they used local stones to mark the graves. No one knows how many are buried here, probably less than a dozen. It seems that records said that a Mr. Curtis was buried here, so it is referred to as the Curtis cemetery. Members of that family are probably buried here, but others could be also. I heard that a fever of some sort came through & wiped out these people in the 1800's, but it has been unconfirmed.
According to Betty Olson, head librarian at the De Soto branch, their records indicate the man as: Martin Thomas Curtis, Died March 18, 1944, 82 years, 6 mo. 18 days. Their records also say there are about 10 other unmarked graves there.
