From Leader Statesman: Versailles, Missouri,
Rockdale cemetery is located just off Highway F in Camden County, Missouri, near Hurricane Deck, North from Camdenton on Highway 5, then right on Highway F

The Rockdale Cemetery dates to 1914 when the Rockdale Church was built.  The old  church has fallen into a state of disrepair, but the cemetery has continued to be maintained and still is used by the people of the area.

Just before the lake filled in 1931, remains were removed from cemeteries that were going to be flooded to cemeteries on higher ground.  Rockdale, like many other cemeteries during that time, set aside an area to receive the headstones and remains from these cemeteries.

One special grave in Rockdale Cemetery is of an unknown person whose remains were moved to Rockdale when they were found wrapped in a blanket on top of the coffin of someone whose remains were being dug up to be moved to Rockdale.

The unknown person was taken to Rockdale, too, and his grave is on one side of the cemetery separate from the rest.

Anyone who would like to help maintain this historical part of the Lake’s beginning may contact Mrs. Raymond Powell, Rt. 2, Box 141, Sunrise Beach, 55079

   Rockdale Cemetery

In Section 10, Range 17 West, Township 39 North, off Highway No. 5 on Lake Road 20 and on to F. Road.  Rockdale Union Church established in 1914, now abandoned. The cemetery is fenced but un-kept.  Brush everywhere.  It is such a pity we care so little for our dead.  Many of these graves were moved here from other cemeteries when Bagnell Dam was built.  Those unmarked were given numbers. Thomas Christian gave land (off his old homestead) for this cemetery and named it Rockdale.

These inscriptions originally copied by Ileene Sims Yarnell 25 November 1960, re-copied from original by Rose Green Maness 31 December 1966.   This list was sent to me by Norma Coon.   Thanks for checking your notebook Norma
