BUSHEY, BUSHMAN, SPARHAWK, SPARROWK posted by Reita Sparrowk on Monday, September 9, 1996

Surnames; SPARHAWK (or SPARROWK) I am researching any SPARHAWK (or SPARROWK) in Cape Girardeau Co. (or anywhere). Dr. William Jenness SPARHAWK Sr. and Mary Emily Bushey SPARHAWK lived in Cape Girardeau. He was a surgeon until his death in the 1940s. Dr. SPARHAWK'S second wife was named Elsie. William J. SPARHAWK Sr. had a brother, Claude B. SPARHAWK Sr., who was married to Carrie BUSHEY. There was also a sister, Sarah Sparhawk BUSHMAN, mar. to Joseph BUSHMAN - Don BUSHMAN and Joseph BUSHMAN Jr. Sarah BUSHMAN may have been active in the Dar and Eastern Star in Cape Girardeau. William and Claude SPARHAWK descend from Noah Sparhawk of Ohio Nathan SPARHAWK George Washington Sparhawk. George W. SPARHAWK was one of the first licensed Steamboat Captains on the Missouri and/or Mississippi River, lived in St. Louis, and founded a bank in St. Louis. SPARHAWK Landing (later became Thebes, IL) was named after George W. Sparhawk. There is supposedly an oil painting of George W. SPARHAWK in the Lindberg Museum (?) in St. Louis. George is also referred to in several of Mark Twain's stories This information is second-hand to me. I would appreciate any further information, corrections, etc., on the above people. Thank you for any and all help. Reita SPARROWK, 6073 Lanterman Drive, Bethalto, IL 62010 [email protected]
