William Ambrose Emery died at his home 2 miles South of Bonanza, at 12:00p Saturday, January 11, 1902. Mr. Emery's death was caused by consumption, with which he has suffered for the past year. The funeral was conducted at the house Sunday morning at 11:00a by Rev. J. W. Power of the U.B. Church of Polo. The remains were interned in the Kingston Cemetery. Deceased was born May 15, 1847, in Coshocton County, Ohio. He married Miss Mary C. Frazier of Green [Greene] County, Indiana in 1969, and by this union 11 children were born, all of whom are now living. The family came to Caldwell county in 1881, and have resided here ever since. He united with the Christian church when he was 17 years of age of which he remained a faithful member until 1890, when he united with the U.B. Church by letter, in which he lived a faithful and true Christian until his death, and often expressed himself as being ready and willing to meet his maker at any time he called.

Mary Catherine Frazier was born July 29, 1849, in Cecilia, Kentucky and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Flora Lester near Jerico Springs on July 21, 1938, lacking just 8 days of reaching her 89th birthday. At the age of five she moved with her parents to Indiana where she grew to womanhood. She was married to William A. Emery on November 18, 1869 and to them were born 6 daughters and 5 sons, 2 sons and 2 daughters having preceded their mother in death. Mr. Emery died January 11, 1902. In addition to her own children she gave a mother's love and care to 4 small half-brothers and sisters, 2 grandsons and 1 great granddaughter. Her whole life was devoted to untiring and unselfish service to others. She came with her husband and children to Pettis County, Missouri in 1879 and for many years lived on a farm near Kingston. The children are Rhoda Florence Porter who died in 1920; John William Emery, of Polo; Flora Lester of Jerico Springs; Mary Harriett West of Richmond; Jonas A. Emery, who died May 11, 1938; Jennie Hughes Palmer of Anaheim, California; Dollie Elliott of Breckenridge; Wallace A. Emery who died in 1922; Olive Sadler who died in 1906; Ben Emery of Kingston; and Homer Emery of Excelsior Springs, Missouri. There are 40 grand children, 45 great grandchildren; 3 half-brothers and 1 half-sister; Noah Frazier of Bedford, Indiana; Will Frazier of Colfax, Washington; King Frazier of North Salem, Indiana and Mrs. Anna Fletcher of Spokane.
Today the journey is ended; I have worked out the mandate of fate. Naked, alone, undefended, I knocked at the uttermost gate. Lo, the gates open wide at my knocking. Across endless reaches I see, lost friends with laughter come flocking. To give a glad welcome to me, farewell! The maze has been threaded. This is the ending of strife. Say not that death should be dreaded, 'tis but the beginning of life!
Res. near Scotland, Greene, In. until 1879 when he removed to Bonzana, Caldwell, Missouri and resided 1880 Dresden, Pettis, Missouri; - a descendant states: the Emery's moved to Pettis county, Missouri, in 1879 and to Caldwell county in 1881.
The Emery's purchased 40 acres on the North side of what is now Missouri "F" in deed recorded April 24, 1886. This tract was owned by the Howard Lester's (Flora Lester's in-laws) up to about 1878. Howard Lester purchased 80 acres, 1/4 mile East and 1/2 mile North in 1878.
Mary Catherine (Frazier) Emery has been credited with raising a number of grandchildren and grandchildren. In researching information I find that she made a home for 15 grandchildren at one time or another. She also was credited with helping care for her three half brothers and one sister. I remember in 1930 we moved from the Frank Dorsey Farm near Regal in Ray county to Grandma Emery's for a short time. Dad got a job on the Rock Island Railroad and walked to Polo by way of the railroad tracks. We soon moved to Polo. In 1936 and 1937, I remember when Grandma Emery needed a place to stay, she was not welcome any place, and was passed from one to the other. I remember she stayed with us for awhile and always talked of IN-DI-AN-A. - Lyndell Miller.

John W. Emery, lifetime resident of this community, died in his home Thursday morning, after about a 2 week illness. He was born May 21, 1870 in Greene County, Indiana. He was the 2nd child of 11 children, 4 of whom survive. The family moved to Missouri in 1879, settling in Caldwell County, where he spent his entire life. He was widely known in this community where for many years he was engaged in farming. On December 12, 1912, he was united in marriage with Miss Dora Lillian Jackson, daughter of the late Jacob and Martha Jane Jackson, early pioneers of Missouri and Caldwell county. Besides his wife he is survived by 2 brothers, Ben Emery of Kingston; Homer E. Emery of Ogallala, Nebraska and 2 sisters, Mrs. Flora Lester of Hamilton and Mrs. Jennie Palmer of Anaheim, California. Also several nieces and nephews. He united with the Methodist church at an early age. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church with the pastor, Reverend W. O. G. Potter officiating. Burial was in the Cowgill Cemetery. The WSCS of the Methodist church served a lunch of sandwiches, pickles, cake and coffee to about 45 relatives and friends from out-of-town who were here Sunday to attend the funeral rites for John Emery. Those from out-of-town here Sunday to attend the John Emery funeral were: Mr. And Mrs. Grafton Jackson and son, of Hamilton; Mr. And Mrs. Homer Emery of Nebraska; Mr. And Mrs. Carl Fonch of Carrollton; Mr. And Mrs. Otto Crowley of Excelsior Springs; Mr. And Mrs. Ruby Jackson; Pearley Jackson and son Jim; Mr. And Mrs. Charles Brownlee; Mrs. N. J. Flint; Mrs. Mary Jackson; Mrs. Minnie Crawford; Mr. And Mrs. Carl Jackson; Mrs. Cecil Couch, all of Kansas City; Mrs. Elva Petree, Dave Jackson, John Jackson and daughter Mary Lee of Richmond; Mrs. Nell Revis; Mrs. Daisy Jackson and son Earl; and Mr. And Mrs. Forrest Shadduck of Cameron.
Mrs. Dora Lillian Pet Emery was found dead by her bed early Monday morning. She was 85 years old and had lived alone the past 11 years since the death of her husband, John Emery. She was found by R. W. Hufft and Mrs. Lucille Jones while Mr. Hufft was delivering oil and Mrs. Jones was calling. The coroner's inquest determined the time of death as late Sunday and from natural causes. She had not been very well for sometime, but able to care for herself. Mrs. Jackson was the youngest of 16 children of Jacob and Martha Jackson, all of whom have preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00p at the Polo Methodist Church with Rev. M. O. Eisenhower officiating assisted by Reverend Don Stanley. Burial was made in the Cowgill Cemetery in charge of Alspaugh-Cowley mortuary. Casket bearers were nephews: Glenn Teegarden, Carl Jackson, John Thomas Hyder, Roger Jackson, Hugh D. Teegarden, and Donald Jackson.

CHARLEY SADLER/SADDLER b. 1880. Understand Olive married and short time later waded snow to care for her mother, caught pneumonia and died. Lived on a farm between Braymer and Cowgill. Information that the same minister (Revered Shilling of Kingston) baptized, married her, and preached her funeral all in the space of a few months. No record is available of where she is buried.
