I am trying to find out whatever happened to my wife's great great great grandfather, Milton SPRADLING. He is listed in Goodspeed's History of Southeast Missouri dated around 1888 but I haven't been able to locate him since that date. I could not find him in Butler County in 1900. His son, Milton Thomas SPRADLING was born in 1856 and married Willie J. HUTCHISON around 1876. They lived in Butler County until their deaths in the 1930's. I am trying to find out where they are buried. I heard they may be buried at Powers Military Cemetary near Poplar Bluff. Is there such a cemetary? Milton Thomas & Willie had at least 10 children including their oldest, Mary Safronia SPRADLING who married Sidney Albert CAMPBELL in the early 1890's and is buried in Qulin. Looking for someone who might be researching these names or knows more about them. Is there anyone in Butler County who does lookups regarding cemetaries?

HUNTER posted by Berna David Hunter on Friday, July 24, 1998

I have a computer but I am not on-line. So, I am using my sisters computer to send you this message. I found your Websight and it said you possibly could help people. So, I very much need your help! In the tracing of my genealogical ancestry my great-grandfather James (Patton ?) Hunter has been a big problem. I have worked since 1976, and I can't seem to get past him. Also, I am having a great deal of trouble getting any information out of Butler and Carter Counties. I hope you will Help me. Please. He is my Chinese Puzzle, James is a total enigma to me and all my living family members. Many years ago I was told that my great- grandfather James was a bastard child. Since that time, through my research I have found that James may have had three brothers. Therefore I no longer believe that James was illegitimate. I can see that James's mother could have had one indiscretion but four is highly unlikely. James never spoke about his family, his son Samuel David didn't either, consequently there is very little information. My name is Berna David Hunter. I am the son of James Robert Hunter, born December 24, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri. He married my mother Juanda Dorcas Helsley 1946 in Columbus, Kansas. My father was the son of Samuel David Dave Hunter and Neta Merle Hurley. Dave was born October 15, 1895 in Kansas City, Missouri; died 1977 in a Neosho Home, Neosho MO. He married Neta Merle Hurley January 20, 1923 in Junction City, Missouri. Neta Merle Hurley, born March 07, 1908 in Odin, Missouri; died April 15, 1959 in Hartville, Missouri. My grandfather Dave was the son of James (Patton?) Hunter and Sophronia Stephens. James and Sophronia Hunter lived most of their lives in Butler and Carter Counties. James (Patton?) Hunter, was born March 12, 1863 in Effingham, Illinois; died July 29, 1958 in Ellsinore, Missouri. He was the son of (I think) Unknown and Caroline Patton? Hunter Bradshaw. James married Sophronia Stephens January 29, 1881 in Ellsinore, Missouri. Sophronia Stephens, was born September 23, 1868 in Marble Hill, Bolliner Tennessee; died 1882-1915 in Ellsinore, Missouri, Carter County , Mo. She was the daughter of Joseph Benjamin Stephens and Hannah Barks.
