RITES TOMORROW AT ASH HILL Funeral services for Samuel H. "Rashie" Mayberry, 77 year old retired framer who died Thursday at 8:45 p.m., at his home, 602 Don st., will be conducted tomorrow at 1 p.m., at the Ash Hill General Baptist Chruch, the Rev.S.W. Johnson will officiate and burial will be in Ash Hill cemetery. Mayberry, a resident of Butler County for fifty, years, operated a farm four miles south of Fisk prior to his retirement. He was born December 24, 1879, in Perry county, Ill. Survivors include his wife, Rosa Lee Mayberry, four daughters, Mrs. Doris Everett of Elgin, Ill., Mrs. Christine Donahue of Fisk, Mrs. Alma Webber of Poplar Bluff and Mrs. Sue Livingston of Ft. Smith, Ark.,; two half-brothers, Claude Roark of Sikeston and Ben Roark of Fairfield, Ill,; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Mattingly of Fisk and Mrs. Nora Downen of Fairfield, Ill.,and 10 grandchildren. The body was taken to the home this morning where it will remain until time for services tomorrow. White Funeral Home of Fisk is in charge of arrangements. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- MILLER Nellie SERVICES HELD IN BROSELEY CHURCH Funeral services for Miss Nellie Miller, 61, were held Friday in Broseley Church of Christ with the Rev. Harbert D. Hooker officiating and the Russel Service, Piggott, in charge. Among the survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Norden, Broseley, and Mrs. Mary Norden, Fisk; three brothers, Clyde, Loren and Herman Miller, all of Fisk. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- DARBY William, SERVICES HELD YESTERDAY William Daniel Darby, a 77 year-old farmer and life-long resident of Fisk area, died suddenly of a heart attack at 11:30 a.m., Saturday while cutting a tree on his farm. Mr. Darby, born March 19, 1886, near Fisk, attended the Hays School He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Chruch but he atended the Nazarene Church at Borseley. On December 30, 1908, he married Miss Ethel Cambron who preceded him in death in 1918. On June 19, 1950, he married Miss Mary M. Metz of Fisk. the survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Darby; 12 chldren, Mrs. Leon Collard of Fisk, Willie Darby of White Haven, Tn., Mrs. Lewis Miller of Poplar bluff, Carl Darby of MI., Marcia, Ferne, Tony, George, Daniel, Harry, Joseph and Samuel Darby all of the home; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Fred Darby of Van Buren, MO. The funeral services were held at 2 p.m., yesterday in the Nazarene Chruch of Broseley with the Rev. Ronald Roth of Fisk conducting the services. Burial was in the Vale Cemetery near Fisk. Watkins and sons of Dexter Service ------------------------------------------------------------------------- KINMAN Minnie, OF BONNIE DIES; FUNERAL SUNDAY (hand written in passed away March 11, 1966) Mrs. Minnie Kinman, 80, of Bonnie, died at 12:25 a.m., today at the Lowrey Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday at the Bonnie Baptist chruch, of which she was a member, with the Rev. Marsh Harpole and the Rev. Bird Green officiating. Burial will be in Hams Grove cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Ina Funeral Home where friends may call after 5: p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Kinman was born in Jefferson county, April 14, 1885, the daughter of Marsh and Mary Ellen (Stringer) Spurlock. She was first married to Grover M. Casey, who preceded her in death on 1937. In 1951, she was married to John Kinman, who preceded her in death in 1958. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Rosler Spurlock. Survivors include six sons: Ivan Casey of Bonnie, Wilburn Casey of Elgin, Lesllie Casey of LaGrange, Herbert Casey, Illiopolis(transcribed as spelled) Kenneth Casey, Woodstock,Ill., and Harold Casey of Crysstal Lake, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Golda Fowler of Mt. Vernon;two step-daughters, Helen Pilson and Lula Kitchell, both of Opdyke; one step-son,Richard of Kinman of Santa Cruz, Calif,; two sisters, Mrs. Zola Wayland of Bonnie and Mrs. Vern Riggs of Mt. FISK RESIDENT DIED YESTERDAY Funeral services for John Wilburn Pulliam, 73 year old resident of Fisk who died yesterday at 3:30 p.m. at his home, will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m., at the Presbyterian Church in Fisk. The Rev., W. T. White, assisted by the Rev. Walters, will officiate and burial will be in Shain Memorial Cemetery. He was born January 1, 1887. in Hamilton County, Ill. He had been a resident of Butler co.,for the past 33 years. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; a daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Snider of Poplar Bluff; two sons, Fred pulliam of Poplar Bluff and George Burkhart of Fisk; two brothers, Cecil and Charlie Pulliam of Galatia, Ill and three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Porter of McLeansboro, Il, and Mrs. Blanche Ogden and Mrs Martha Braiden, both of Broughton, IL. White's Funeral Service of Fisk is in charge of arrangements. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- RANBURGER Dale, 13 YEAR OLD SON OF MR. AND MRS. BERT RANDBURGER, of Broseley, was suffocated when buried alive in a sand pit a half mile northwest of Broseley at 3:15 yesterday afternoon............ In addition to his parents, the child is survived by two brothers Mike 10, and Johnny 16, two sisters, Betty Ranburger and Augusta Stucker, all of the Broseley district, and his grandfather, John H. Ranburger of Owensboro, Ky. The body was taken to the Frank-Cotrell Chapel and returned to the family home today. Funeral servics will be conducted at the Brown Chapel Church, south of Broseley at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon with burial following in the Brown Chapel cemetery under the direction of Frank-Cotrell Undertaking Company. Ranburger's, have been a resident of the Broseley district for the past 18 years, owns a farm near Brosely. (Photo) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- BROWN Phillip, Died when car rolled end over end and crashed into a tree a mile from city limits. Phillip Keith Brown, 21-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown of Route 1, Fisk and who was employed by a St. Louis trucking company was killed instantly when a car he was driving went out of control on a curve, rolled end over end twice and crashed into a tree on Butler county Highway P, Barron Road, at 2;30 Sunday morning. The accident occurrred a mile west of the city limits. The body was taken to the White Funeral Home at Fisk. Brown was born at Borseley, January 21, 1838, and has spent most of his life in the Broseley area. Survivors include his parents; seven brothers, Lyman, Bobbie and Curtis Brown of St. Louis, and Ralph, Paul, Tommy nad Edgar Brown at home and three sisters, Mrs. Synia Smith of Qulin, Mrs. Arinda Brown of St. Louis and Martha Ann Brown at home. The deceased served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 The Rev. Woodrow Peck officiated at funeral services held at the Broseley high school gymnasium at 2 o'clock this afternoon, Burial was in the Brown Chapel Cemetery and services were directed by the White Undertaking company of Fisk. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- SCOFIELD Fon H., A well known Poplar Bluff business man and operator of the Scofield and City Bus Lines, died following a heart attack at his home at 403 N. Second Street at 8 this morning. Fon, was born at Fulton, Ky., February 12, 1887. Fon and the former Miss Sally Stewart were married at Charleston April 16, 1907. Survivors include his wife, a son, F. H. Scofield, Jr., of Richmond, VA, a daughter, Miss Barbara Ellen Scofield of New York City, N.Y. a twin-brother, Lon Scofield of Wingo, Ky., and one grandchild. Mr. Scofield was a deacon and member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Gideons. He had resided here for the past 20 years and prior to moving to Poplar Bluff was engaged in the operation of bus lines at Charleston, The body was taken to the Greer Croy and Fitch Chapel. The Rev. Chester B. Pillow, pastor of the church, will officate at the services to be directed by the Greer Croy and Fitch Undertaking Co. Burial will be in the Charleston, MO, City Cemetery ------------------------------------------------------------------------- HAWORTH DR., Former president of Southeast Missouri Dental Society was 77; came here in 1911. Dr. J. L. Haworth, 77-year-old well known local dentist and a former persident of the Southeast Missouri Dental Society, died at his home at 633 Poplar Street at 4 o'clock this morning following a lingering illness.......... He had recently moved his dental offices from the Dalton building to his residence. Born at Paoli, Ind., August 17 1881, he graduated from the University of Louisville Dental School in 1907 and moved to Poplar Bluff in March of 1911. Dr. Haworth and the former Miss Irene Greason were married in August of 1911. He joined the Methodist Church as a youth and had been a member of the First Methodist Church heresince 1911. Survivors include his wife; a son, J. L. Haworth, Jr., of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, Dr. C.c. Haworth of Seattle, Wash., and John Haworth of Orlando, Fla.; a sister inIndiana, and seven grandchildren. Another son, Greason Haworth, died about a year ago. Funeral services will be conducted at the Frank-Cotrell Chapel at 2 o'clock Thrudasy afternoon, Burial will be in the City Cemetery. The Rev. William Tibbett will officiate at the services. Members of the S.E. Mo. Dental Society will serve as honorary pallbearers at the services. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- KINDER F.M. Judge Francis M. Kinder of the Butler county Magistrate Court died at the Doctors Hospital at 6:15 last night following a stroke. The 84-year-old pioneer Butler County Lawyer and first and only local magistrate judge, after the State Legislature revamped the antiquated justice of the peace system in Mo. and replaced it with the magistrate system, had served three four-year terms in the office and had started his fourth term January 1. In apparent good health in spite of his advanced years, Judge Kinder arose dazed yesterday morning and fell while dressing. He discounted the fall and went to his office at the court-house yesterday morning. He told friends he had slipped on a rug and with his customary humor remarked, "I guess I got up too soon--I sliped on a rug. He presided in his court yesterday morning, then saw his doctor about noon. X-rays and medical examinations revealed he had suffered no injury in the fall and he went to his home at 905 Cynthia St. Shortly after noon he complained of a severe headache and nausea and was removed to the Doctors Hospital where attending physicians found he had suffered a stroke. He lapsed into a coma and died at 6:15 last night. Described by the late Judge David Bruce Deem in his "History of Butler county" as "Outstanding among the professional men of Butler county," Judge Kinder was born on a farm near Buschanan in Bollinger county, Jan 8 1883. He graduated from the State Normal School (now Southeast Missouri State College at Cape Girardeau) -(NOTE:information about the SE MO State college at Cape Girardeau is referring to the era of this obituary) in 1907, then enrolled at Missouri University where he received his law degree in 1910. Barbee, 43 year-old former resident of Broseley who made her home at 9400 Edgewood Lane, Berkeley, Mo., died July 30 in DePaul Hospital, St. Louis after an illness of seven weeks. She had been a resident of St. Louis County for the past 13 years. Born at Broseley in 1918, she was married Jan, 8, 1945, to Luther W. Barbee at Corning, AR. In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters, Phyllis Ann and Patty Lee Barbee, both of the family home; her step-mother, Mrs. Myrtle Stroud, Broseley; four brothers, Francis of St. Louis; Edgare of Berkley; Franklin of Florissant and Harrison Barbee,of Winsfall, Ind,;three step-brothers, Ivan Kelsaw, St. Johns, Mo.; Wayne Kelsaw, Broseley, and Walter Kelsaw, Granite City, Il.; a half-brother, John Stroud, Philadelphis, Pa.; four sisters, Mrs, Daisy Huggins, Qulin; Mrs. Gladys Thomas, and Mrs. mary Gleave, both of Broseley, and one step-sister, Mrs. Florence McCallister, Berkeley. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. in the Browns's Chapel Church wiht the Rev. Oden Coats officiating. Burial will be in the Brown's Chapel Cemetery under the direction of White's Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the home of Mrs. Myrtle Stroud late today. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PIERCE, Ira Ira Pierce, 73, a retired farmer and former County Judge of Broseley, died yesterday morning at the Lucy Lee Hospital. A resident of Butler county for 57 years. Pierce was born October 17, 1893 at Bernie. He had served as County Judge for the Eastern District of Butler County and had been a member of Broseley School Board for 32 years. He had worked for Boeving Cotton Company for 23 years. On November 15, 1916, he married the former Miss Floe Brown, who survives. Other survivors include nine children, Charles and Ivan Pierce of Broseley, Kenneth Pierce of Phoenix, Ariz. Mrs. Dorothy Hearne of Portland. Ore., Mrs. Magdaline Deem of Broseley. Mrs. Maxine Chilton of Broseley, Mrs. Marylee Bridges of Kennett, Mrs. Shirley Cross and Mrs. Barbara Guess of St. Louis; 20 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a brother, Bennie Pierce of Broseley and three sisters, Mrs. Essie Smothers of Campbell and Florence and Martha of Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Brown Chapel. The Rev. Glenn Scott will conduct the services and burial will follow in the Brown Chapel Cemetery. Manns, formerly of Dudley, died at Doctors Hospital last night of complications due to infirmities. He was 78. For some time he had resided at Glendale, Claif., although his home was at Dudley until a few years ago. The body was taken to the home of a grandson, Dalton Clark, north of Junland school, where it will remain until Friday afternoon when services will be conducted at 2 at the First Baptist Church in Dexter. He leaves his widow, tow daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Williamson and Mrs. Gertrude Cozort of Poplar bluff and a son, Martin Manns of Glendale. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- STROUD Lucy Mrs. Lucy Jane Stroud, 61 year-old resident of route 1 of Broseley, died yesterday at her home following an illness of four months She was born February 17, 1901 in Illinois and has been a resident of the county for the past 50 years. Surviving are four sons, Jim, Billy, and Sherman of Broseley and Chester of Poplar Bluff; a daughter, Mrs. Vida Schalk of Poplar bluff; 13 grandchildren and a brother Jack Roe of Fisk. Funeral services will be at 2:30 Saturday at the Brown Chapel Church with the Rev. Oden Coats officiating. Burial will be in the Brown Chapel Cemetery under the direction of White Funeral Home. The body was to be taken to the family home at 8 p.m. today. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - CRUMB, Lucy Mrs. Lucy May Crumb, 66, a resident of Star Route l, Williamsville, died Monday in the Lucy Lee Hospital. Mrs. Crumb was born on April 13, 1901, at Piggott, Ark., and on Aug. 29, 1916, she married Albert Forest Crumb. He survives her. She was a member of Greenville Missionary Baptist Church. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Elva Mae Baum, Eureka, Mrs. Bonnie Ames, Phoenix, Mrs. Rubie Lindner, Florissant, and Mrs. Joyce Costephens, Silvia; 11 Grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Eddy Mabry, Hornersville; and four sisters, Mrs. Cora Eads., Piedmont, Mrs. Anna Tates, Hornersville, Mrs. Lornen Penn, Memphis, and Mrs. Ida Mabry, also of Hornersville. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Gish-Bowles Funeral Chapel in Greenville with burial in the Greenville Cemetery. The minister will be the Rev. Glenn Scott. (hand written note 25th day of Dec 1967) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HAMLIN, Michael Lutesville- Michael Roy Hamlin, 18-year-old resident of Grassy, was killed Saturday in an automobile accident in Dover Ohio. The youth was spending the summer in Ohio working in a factory. He was born Jan 30, 1951 in Poplar Bluff and had formerly lived in Broseley. Mr. Hamlin was a 1968 graduate of Woodlawn High School in Lutesville and a member of the Church of Christ in Marble Hill. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Hamlin, Grassy, three brothers, James Hamlin, in the Army stationed at Fort Hood, Tex,; and Glendell and P.F. Hamlin, both of the home; one sister, Linda Hamlin, also of the same. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. today in Ward’s Funeral Chapel. Gerald Cowan officiated and burial was in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery at Broseley. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BERRY, Rainey Funeral Services for Mrs. Rainey Berry, 76, a lifetime resident of the Williamsville community who died at the home of her son, Dr. Carrick Berry, in Bonne Terre, May 18, will be held at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon in the Methodist Church at Williamsville. The Rev. A.V. Alcorn will officiate and burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery on Cane Creek under the direction of the Coder Funeral Service Born March 22 1884, in Butler county, she was married to the late John W. Berry. Among the survivors are five sons, Lewin and John Berry, and Dr. Carrick Berry, all of Bonne Terre; Linden Berry, St. Louis, and Archie Berry, Williamsville.
