Deem's History of Butler County Missouri by David Bruce Deem, Probate Judge, Butler County, MO DR. FRED L. KNEIBERT DR. Fred Louis Kneibert, the eldest son of George H. And Nettie (Goshorn) Kneibert was born on April 8, 1903 at Malden, Mo., where his father operated a mercantile establishment for the past 35 years. He received his elementary education at the Malden grade school and graduated from the Malden high school before entering the University of Missouri where he received his A. B. degree in 1925. While a student at the University of Missouri he worked at the Boone county hospital at Columbia as a laboratory and X-Ray technician. Upon completion of his college work at Columbia, he enrolled at the Jefferson Medical College at Philadelphia, Penn., where he was graduated with the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1927. He then went to St. Louis and interned at St. Luke's hospital for a year before becoming a member of the staff at the Brandon hospital in Poplar Bluff in July of 1928. He completed a post graduate course dealing with diseases of women at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill., and is a general practitioner and surgeon. On September 12, 1928, Dr. Kneibert married Miss Doris Dow, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. O. B. Dow of Grove City, Pennsylvania. They have two children, John Dow Kneibert, 7, a student at the Mark Twain school, and Frederick Douglas, 4, a kindergarten student. Dr. Kneibert is a member of the American Medical Association, the Missouri State Medical Association, the Mississippi Valley Medical Society, the Southeast Missouri Medical Society and the Butler county Medical Society. He was president of the University of Missouri's Medical School Foundation in 1939 and a former counselor of the Missouri State Medical Society. He was president of the Butler county Medical Society in 1939 after having been secretary of the organization in 1936, 1937 and 1938. Dr. Kneibert is a member of Phi Beta Pi, national medical fraternity, and Alpha Tay Omega, national Collegiate social fraternity. Dr. Kneibert attends the Episcopal church and is an active member of the Kiwanis club having served as present of the Poplar Bluff club in 1938. He has always belonged to the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce and has been active in Red Cross drives in his county. He is a member of the Masonic lodge, the Scottish Rite and the Shrine and is a former member of the Poplar Bluff Boy Scout Council. Dr. Kneibert opened his office in the Ferguson building in November of 1939 and in January of 1940, opened his new suite of rooms on the first floor of the Ferguson building at Main and Vine street. His hobbies are flowers and orchards which surround the attractive home in which he and his family reside on Barron road. Dr. Kneibert has two brothers, George Kneibert who operates a loan firm in St. Louis and Bob Kneibert, affiliated with the Boeving Brothers Cotton Company at Hayti, Mo.
