a non-profit corporation,was formed in 1973 for the purpose of preserving our historical and genealogical records and making those records available to persons researching their families in our area, which includes Butler County, Poplar Bluff and adjoining areas.
A private library of over 600 genealogy books has been obtained by the society and donated to the Poplar Bluff Public Library. The books are on the shelves for the public to use.
Membership is open to persons who are interested in the genealogical history of our area. Membership dues are $20.00 for the first year if Area Footsprints are picked up and $26.00 if mailed. Membership renewals are $15.00 if Area Footprints are picked up and $21.00 if mailed. Dues are on a calendar basis (Jan. 1 to Dec. 31). This includes 2 publications of Area Footprints

Area Footprints is published by the Genealogical Society of Butler County, Inc., a non-profit organization. Formerly published quarterly, is now published bi-annually. This genealogy Society also has an exchange program for bulletins with other societies.
Area Footprints Queries to members are free; from the non-member, the cost is $1.00 for the first 50 words, $2.00 for 50-100 words. Butler County genealogy queries are limited to two per issue.

The Butler County Genealogical Society has collected Pedigree Charts from members and anyone else who would like to submit them. They have been compiled in a book and kept in the Poplar Bluff Public Library for public use. (We will make an addendum to this from time to time, so continue to submit your pedigree charts.)
