BROWNING, CHITWOOD, COLLINS, CREASON, CSA, DUNCAN, ELLIS, HARPER, HENDERSON, HIGGS, INMAN, MCNABB posted by K Harper on Sunday, July 8, 2001

In light of new findings, I am reposting my information and query on my great-great-great grandfather, Charles B. DUNCAN. I am wondering if there is a connection between my Charles B. DUNCAN and the DUNCAN / BROWNING connection in Madison County, KY or possibly VA Duncans as in the 1880 Barry County, MO census, Charles lists his parents as both having been born in VA. I have heard it suggested he could be the son of the Charles DUNCAN born 1770 to the Duncan/Browning family. I suspect Charles' middle name was Browning as later one of his grandsons was named John Browning Duncan, which would show to be a family name passed down if my assumption is correct. My Charles B. Duncan was born March 13, 1823 in TN according to "The Hendons from Gunpowder River" by Grace Chancey. Grace goes on to say that he is the ninth child of William DUNCAN and Sarah COLLINS who were married February 21, 1805. I am fairly certain Charles' first wife was Sarah CHITWOOD. I do know that her name was Sarah C. ? according to Grace Chancey's book and other sources. She was born in 1832 in TN and died Oct. 1855 in MO due in childbirth. They possibly married 1848 in MO. Charles then married Sarah K. HIGGS on June 24, 1856 in Barry County, MO. Later he married Tennessee (Tonne or Tenne) INMAN September 14, 1876 in Barry County, MO. He had the following children: William Joel, Robert, Margaret, James, Charles B., Oliver K., Julia A., Myrtle B. and Perry B. Charles appears in the 1861 Tax Rolls of Barry Co. MO as a participant in the CSA and owner of 6 slaves valued at 2000 dollars. He died 10-24-1900 in Barry County, MO. If anyone can help me out, please reply any way you like. Thank you in advance.

DICK, NUGENT posted by Tom Simkin on Sunday, July 29, 2001

Ellen DICK in/near Aurora 1873-77 & 1916?-29 Ellen & Frank DICK moved to Aurora very shortly after their early 1873 marriage and returned to NW Missouri before the birth of their 3rd child in Spring of 1877. After her husband died, Ellen came back to Aurora sometime between 1916 and 1924, and was living there at the time of her 31 Jan 1929 death. All 3 kids went to Kansas, but Jay Elmer's family apparently lived in Aurora until 1933, and they were returned there from Kansas for burial. Ellen Nugent DICK was my gGrandad's younger sister, and we know quite a lot about this family in NW Missouri, but almost nothing about the DICK side (OR their clearly strong link to SW Missouri). Searches of Lawrence Co records (census, land titles, marriages) have turned up little more than the information outlined above, so I'm posting this on the chance that they lived in Barry Co but used Aurora as their postal address. If anyone can help in this search I will be very grateful. Thanks, Tom Simkin [email protected]
