BETHEL, BUCHANAN, CARMAN, DANIEL, HARRIS, MCBRIDE, MEDLIN, RODGERS, TALBUTT posted by Taleah Wilkinson on Thursday, September 10, 1998

Sept. 10, 1998 Thursday Dear Sir: What I'm looking for is a possible list of who was in a head of household by the name of Joshua Carman he is listed in the 1840 Missouri Federal Census for being a resident of Barry County, Mo. I know that his wife's name was Susannah Carman,( I don't have a maiden name for her), his children was as follows: James, Lucinda b. Ca. 1820, Joshua T., Elmina Eleanor b. 1811 Ky.,; at times I've found the daughter Lucinda also listed as Charlotte after she married Allen H. Medlin, and came to Dade County where she died in about 1878, as she was in the 1870 Dade County Census but not in the 1800 Dade County Census. Lucinda is buried in a small private cemetery beside here husband but there isn't a head stone so there is not exact date of her death, just know that in 1880 census he is listed as a widow. I have reason to believe that the small cemetery where Allen and Lucinda is buried,( Kings Cemetery), is on the land where they was living when she died. I know from a note in the local papper that sometime in the early 1880's Allen sold his land that was in this area. I was also told that the land was bought by one of Allen and Lucinda's son-in-laws and that their family is buried there. I have reason also to believe that this same land is in the area where Joshua and Susannah Carman bought land just before Dade County was offically attempted as a county of its own. I don't have any death dates on Joshua and Susannah Carman, but they may very well be buried here in Dade County in the Kings Cemetery with their daughter Lucinda Carman Medlin. I would like to know if any other children was born to this couple that might have stayed behind in Barry County when the rest of the family moved on to Dade County. From what I can see from the census records is that it looks as if all or most all of the children where grow when they came to Dade County. Some of the children married after they came to Dade County, some as I think in Lucinda's case was already married when arriving here. James H. Carman m. Nov. 16, 1882 to Vina Talbutt; Joshua T. m. Maricebly Jane Rodgers May 21, 1871; Elimina Eleanor Carman m. John Harris no date; Lucinda Carman m. Allen Medlin no date. I think that very possinble there was another son by the name of William also as there was one listed for Barry Co., in the 1840 census with Joshua; I also found the name of George Carman in the Dade County and Her Peoples history book with Joshua. I have also found the dates of a Clara Lucinda Carman d/o of Millie McBride and ______ Carman, who was born in Dade County June 11, 1855, she was the step-daughter of Green W. Daniel so I know that her father died and her mother remarried, Clara Lucinda Carman m. W.A. Buchanan Sept. 14, 1873 and lived her whole life in Dade County. I would like to be able to find more information so I can have a complete Carman family history. Joshua Carman was born 1790 in Ky, he died in Dade Co.Mo. in 1876; Susannah was born in 1791 ?, died before 1860, according to our census their son James was born in 1832 in In.; I think that there might possible be a will on him, but don't know if it has made it through all of the moves of the Dade County courthouse. I do know that their daughter Lucinda and her husband was living in Tenessee, Warren County just before they came here, I think it must have been early in there marriage as there daughter my Great Great Grandmother Eliza Frances birhtdate is recorded as being in Missouri July 6, 1853. I would really like to here from anyone who has information on the Carman family. Thank You Taleah Wilkinson; [email protected]
