Looking for information on the JACKSON family -- Hugh Thomas (or Thomas Hugh) was married to Mary Ann GOLD of Stone County, and disappeared around 1882. Legend says that they found his corpse, but she refused to claim it. She is buried in a small graveyard on the Gold family farm. They had a son, William A. (Bud) JACKSON (1881-1917), who married Minnie MAPLES and is buried in they graveyard of the Union Ridge Baptist Church.

Looking for any information on Solomon ROBERTS, b. ~1810 in SC or GA, and his wife, Mary A. PARR, daughter of Barton Brawner CLEMENTS. They were married in Barry Co. and were in the 1860 Census. She married John SMITH after Solomon's death and continued to live in Barry Co. until at least 1870+. Also, what is the relationship of Jerusha ROBERTS to Solomon? She married a PATTON in Barry Co, but returned to using ROBERTS. On her tombstone, it states she is Solomon's wife, but I doubt it.

Looking for information on John H. BURTON, his pension papers said he died 6/25/1902 and that he received his pension at Mano, Barry Co, MO. His wife Artemisa died in 1884 and is buried at Edie Cem. He was on the 1900 cen. in Roaring River Twsp. with his two youngest children, Robert and Janie. I would like to know where he is buried.

My mother, Nelle Parthine TAYLOR was born in Cassville and I have original family tax receipts from 1880s,an original Release of Lein from Trust Bond and Mortgage by The Board of Church Extension of The Methodist Episcopal Church dated 8/16/1887 on the Methodist Espicopal Church Casville,Mo. Form is signed by J.L. Padgett, J.C. Davis and M. Wallace, Trustees of Church, Attorney Lafayette Beasley,and Chas. S. Bryan? recorder. I also have the front (and only) page of the Saturday, April 22,1893 Cassville Democrat with the report of the fire destroying a good part of Cassville business area. I would like to hear from anyone that is familar with TAYLOR or LEE familys in Cassville from 1880-1924.

Looking for parents and wife of Adam FLESHER b. ca 1814 VA. Wife also b. VA according to census His daughter Amanda FLESHER married Henry C. JANES in 1855 Buchanan Co. MO. The FLESHERS and JANES families traveled from VA to Ohio, Wisc., (many other states!) to Barry MO by 1840 (census listing). Henry JANES father was Willam H. JANES b. ca 1800-12. Henry and Amanda orphaned their 4 children by mid 1870's. Although Amanda's father (Adam ) was alive, a Christopher P. LYONS adopted the youngest child (Thomas Newton JANES), and took him to Neb. Researching family of Thomas William PUTHUFF ( b. Oct 15, 1868 Bolivar, Mo. d. Oct 7, 1949 Blanchard, IA) barber. His father was Charles Christopher PUTHUFF (1846-1882) blacksmith (from Germany?) who drove a commissary wagon for his uncle Tom MCQUILLAN until he was old enough to enlist in 15th Mo. Cavalry in Civil War. Mother was Mary Elizabeth COVINGTON (1850-1877) buried Bolivar (old cemetary) Mary E. COVINGTON'S parents were William M. COVINGTON (1818-1899) harness maker with Cherokee Indian blood. He is buried in Bolivar (old cemetery). His wife was Frances Ann PAINE (1825-1912) English and 1/4 Osage Indian. She was buried in Bolivar (new cemetary). (Her mother lived to age 105 and her full blooded indian grandmother lived to age 115 but do not know years of deaths.) Any help in researching these families would be appreciated.

I am researching the RINE/RYAN family in Barry Co. They came from Daviess Co., MO about 1890 and settled in the Exeter area. Henry A RINE and his wife, Sarah Gertrude WARD brought 5 children who grew up in Barry Co. The oldest boy, Alva RYAN was my grandfather. He married Verna M BAYLESS in 1900. They lived in various areas of Barry Co. Most of the family and several of my uncles (Alva's ch) are buried in Exeter. Henry's brother John RINE came at the same time and is bur in Concord Cem. at Exeter. I would like information concerning his descendents. Another brother, William RINE may have been in Barry Co., also but have no record. Any help would be apprecitated. I am putting together a book on this family for publication in late May or early June.

RAGSDALE, Clarence or Lawrence Royal Are these the same person? One or the other of them was my grandfather Edgar E. RAGSDALE'S father. John WELSH (WELCH) and Margaret Matilda STONE were m. 22 May 1841 in Barry Co., MO. John had two children by previous marriage: California WELCH (b. 1838) and John W. WELCH (b. abt 1840). Henry Bowlin WELCH was b. abt 1842 in MO; then the family left for Texas. Traveling with the WELCHES were Henry Bowlin and Sarah CARRUTHERS. Both families lived for a while in Smith Co., TX, then moved on to Freestone Co., TX. I would like to know more about these families. Anyone related to these families?

I am looking for John Fletcher GRIFFITH, married to Elvira MORRILL, who lived in Barry county prior to 1860 or so. They had a daughter named Virginia GRIFFITHS who married Samuel Jefferson MCKINNEY and moved to Texas to Collin County. The Griffiths were not happy that their daughter married my g-g-grandfather and disapproved. When they got ready to leave Barry County however, they relented and also moved with them. My G-G-G grandfather was a school teacher and I believe that Virginia or Ginnie was a student of his. I would appreciate any information about them at all. Thanks!

Searching for information on Caleb (Calep) SUMPTER and Lucinda BURK (BURKE) and their parents. Caleb and Lucinda were married in Barry Co., MO on 7 Aug 1860. Caleb's parents are Jeptha SUMPTER, b. 1806 VA and Eliza Ann ___ , b. 1824 TN and he was born in 1841perhaps in Reynolds Co., MO. Caleb had three younger brothers: Jesse, b. 1843; Abraham, b. 1845; and Henry , b. 1848. On 3 Oct 1862, Caleb enlisted as a Confederate Soldier in Randolph Co., AR in the 3rd Regiment Missouri Cavalry and was allegedly killed sometime during the Civil War. Family legend has a Benjamin SMALLEY (SMILEY) returning Caleb's pocket knife and notebook to Caleb's wife, Lucinda [Burk] SUMPTER. Jim Young, RR 3, Box 329-A, McAlester, OK 74501.
