| Ulyssis Grant Reed was born Feb. 19, 1869 at Eagle Rock, Barry Co., MO, and died June 10, 1944 in Oakland, Alameda Co., CA, and married Moylissa Elizabeth Wiley Morris, September 11, 1890 in Marion Co., AR. Moylissa was born Apr. 14, 1867 in Searcy Co., AR and died Nov. 27, 1948. Ulyssis was a son of Alfred and Louisa (Bristow) (Simpson) Reed. In 1900 he was living on Big Creek, Marion Co., AR, and was using the name of Thomas Smith. AKA: Thomas Smith - According to Fort Smith, Arkansas records and family stories, Grant Reed was arrested for Assault in 1888, Jacket Number: 161, which would have made him 19 years old at the time. And according to families associated with U. Grant Reed, he escaped from jail for a long period of time and went by the alias Thomas Smith. He was supposedly caught several years later, however the statute of limitations kept him from going back to jail, so he wasn't put back in jail and couldn't be convicted. |
