Research Note | The girls ALL were known by their middle names for some reason. I will list their full names.
Front row: Carrie Josephine Oakley Gline Marjorie Nadine Oakley Roadman William Murel Oakley George Elvin Oakley Back row: Nola Christine Oakley Watson Naomi Allene Oakley Patterson (my mother) Vivian Lorene Oakley Anaya Ruth Imogene Oakley Hall James Paul Oakley Leslie Oakley My grandmother, Edna Dawson Oakley had passed away, and this sad group shot was at the funeral home. The oldest Oakley child, Vernon, had just died suddenly that very September, 1970, and then Grandma Oakley died suddenly on Nov 1, 1970. Grandpa looks so sad. Uncle Vernon Oakley had been a teacher in the Washburn area in the 1930s at OK school and Fine school, I think. He drowned. My mom's sister, Christine Oakley Watson, was the youngest. She died in 1974 of cancer. She was married to Leslie Paul Watson, who taught for years in the Washburn area and then in Cassville. Two of the other girls, Imogene and Nadine have since died. Of the 10 kids, 6 are still living, and my mother, Allene Oakley Patterson, is the youngest living child. |
