CAPACITY CROWD AT MACEDONIA PROGRAM

REV. WINFORD DAVIS HONORED ON 34TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS FIRST SERMON


Rev. Winford Davis, who preached his first sermon at the Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church 34 years ago January 13, was surprised with a special program on the date of the anniversary when church members and friends crowded the church to overflowing to pay tribute to him.

The program, attended by friends from all sections of Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma was patterned from the “This is Your Life” series on television. Jerry Davis acted as master of ceremonies.

Rev. Davis life was reviewed from his birth on December 8, 1904, a son of Samuel Asberry Davis and Nettie Marbut Davis, to the present day. It was brought out at the program that Rev. Davis grew up on the old homestead about two miles northeast of the Macedonia church and attended school at the old Bethel school.

Among those who participated on the program, in addition to Jerry Davis, were Ewin Davis, Opal Lierheimer, Alma Davis, Julia Baker and Raymond (Doc) Davis, all of Monett; Mr. and Mrs. Mack Fultz of Blue Eye; Mrs. Lucille Childress of Aurora; Mr. and Mrs. John Rollins of Jefferson City; Mr. and Mrs. Marie Hyatt of Centerview; Rev. Kenneth Turner of Joplin; Mrs. Bernice Davis and sons, Jimmy and Ricky and daughter, Mrs. Freda Sue Henderson and grandchildren, Danny Mark and Gaylon Sue Henderson.

Leslie Styron of Davis, N.C., was unable to be present but sent tape recording for the program.

Musical entertainment including the Four Flats Quartet, composed of Vedas Davis, George Pennell, Dewey Pennell and Dale Morlan. Robba Nell Davis accompanied at the piano.

Gifts, obtained through donations by friends and church members, included a complete wardrobe, electric shaver, pen and pencil set, taped service, pictures, potted plant, luggage, and a charm bracelet for Mrs. Davis with a charm for each important happening in her life.
