At the very left of the picture is yours truly, Betty Higgs, standing beside man holding songbook, who is Glen Lauderdale father of Donna in creek, lady to the back of him is Irene Miller, next man is a visiting minister.

The woman standing behind me on my left is Ethel Swaffer mother of Lavere standing in the creek and behind Glen is Erma Brattin and Monta Lauderdale.

Standing a little back is Eston Dutch Burton, next man holding book, is Floyd Burton, music leader, my mother Marguerite Higgs pianist at New Hope, woman in checked skirt is Grace Lauderdale mother of Donna in creek, next man is Darrell Cantrell and wife Dorthy Cantrell parents of James in the creek, Margorie Burton Land, Ora Cantrell grandmother of James in the creek and sister of James with arm on hip and over eyes is Bernadine Cantrell, next three girls are __, Helen Duckett, and Hazel Hudson, men seated on ground, unknown, may be Lester Vineyard?, Elvin Brattin,_Fred Lauderdale, Ray Miller and my dad Chester Higgs a little back in the hat.

Around the base of the tree are unk boy, but might be J. C. Brattin?, Hugh Higgs, unknown two boys, H. D. Higgs, son of Hugh, little swaffer girl, my brother Joe Higgs with white collar.

Back row up on hill, is my grandfather Walter Hoyt, unknown woman, Graber or Warner Woman, Loreen Warner and Gerald Warner, unknown, unknown boy in front, smaller girl is Florence Sligar, unknown girl may be Swaffer?, unknown man and Joe Jones, most of the rest are unknown, because I can't see them well enough to identify, except for lady to the right of the tree is Eula Garrison. The rest are unidentifiable.

I remember that this picture was taken the same afternoon as the one with the New Hope group picture already on the site submitted by Don Warner. I believe it was the occasion of the ordination of Glen Lauderdale? As you can tell it is late afternoon. about 1948 or 1949. I was about 10.

I suspect the reason we went to Shoal Creek instead of having the baptism in Pogue's Creek which runs right behind the New Hope Church, was late in the season and the water was low in Pogue's Creek.

This picture is also in my publication (back page) of "The Higgs family, Maryland to Missouri", Pub. 1978.

Betty wrote: I just got an email from a friend and former member of New Hope, J. C. Brattin, and he reminded me that the second boy from the left in the creek being baptised is Jimmy Dale Stephenson. Son of Wes and Jewell Stevenson. Jimmy Dale died in a tragic accident as a teen!
The "Graber or Warner Woman" is my mother Lucy Warner. The boy in front of Lorene and Gerald Warner is probably their son Carl Dean, but I cannot tell for sure is a note that came in from Don Warner.
