Research Note Penelope (Haddock) Petty, born June 9, 1818 - daughter of Charles and Penny (Mills) Haddock, Sr. She married Joel Hayden Petty, in Barry Co., MO, on 07 Dec 1837. He died in Leavenworth Co., KS, 19 Feb 1863. She died in 1880, perhaps in MO. They are buried Mt Oram Cemetery, Redfield, Bourbon Co., Kansas, next to her parents.

In 1840 Joel Petty was listed as J. H. Petty in 1840. He had one male under 5 and he was age 20 to 30. He listed his wife 20 to 30 also. He lived on Sugar Creek, J. T. Haddock lived next door and Zachariah Haddock lived two doors away. So they lived in the Eagle Rock area of Barry Co., MO.

Petty, J. H., paid taxes in Kansas in 1859. He was listed on the Marmaton Twp., tax roll, page 5.

1860 Federal Population Schedules, US Census, Bourbon Co., KS, House # 471, Rockford Twp., listed Joel H. Petty age 45 born in KY. Penelope, his wife, was age 41. And she was also born in KY. Children were Phebe age 16, Mary age 14, Joel age 12, Nancy age 10, Lucretia age 7, Susan age 5, and John age 2. All the children were born in MO. [Research Note: If all the children were born in Missouri and one is 2 years old, the date they left MO, must have been about 1858.] [Research Note: the child that is listed as Susan is probably Sarah Elizabeth because she was about 5 in 1860. From her obituary it is known that she was born April 5, 1855. The Petty family has listed a Susan Oliver Petty as a child but born 3 mos before Sarah Elizabeth was born. There seems to be a data error with this information because they also have the birth date of Sarah Elizabeth incorrectly stated.]

Living next door was Jacob LaRue age 24 born in KY, Lyscom age 18 born in KY and they were in house # 472. In house #469 was David S. Ford age 38 born in Virginia, wife Elizabeth 35 born in Indiana. Children Elizabeth age 15 born in IL, Janissa? age 12 born MO, Hiram age 10 born in MO, George age 5 born in MO, Living in the house was David LaRue age 21 born in KY.
