Rev. Herman Hays left today for Newton county where he will assist Rev. W. J. Cox in a two week's Gospel campaign. Rev. Mr. Fisher will occupy the pulpit here Sunday morning for him and Prof. Will will fill his appointment at the evening service.

James Sapp, teacher of the House school, states that he has not yet been able to open his school again but will soon. The district was unfortunate in having a few cases of scarlet fever.

Will Farwell of near Eagle Rock stated while in Cassville Saturday that an old house near the Boone Haddock home south of Eagle Rock burned one day last week and a smoke house also caught fire but was saved and the Haddock residence for at time was in danger.

John Reed, the star route carrier of the mail on the Eagle Rock and Mano route out of this city has reversed his trip. He goes each morning from Cassville to Eagle Rock and back by Mano instead of going from Cassville to Mano and return via Eagle Rock as has always been the custom. This is done on account of being better able to take advantage of some hills on the road.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. James Nickle of Cross Hollows Sunday night, Oct 29, a girl.

Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Thomas of Crane visited their son, J. H. Thomas, and family here the first of the week.

Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Davis came down from Webb City Saturday to attend the funeral of their brother-in-law, Tom Mitchell, who was buried at Sparks that day.

The little two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Talbert of this city has been quite sick for the past few days.

Mineral Spring: Mrs. Evans and three daughters of Pittsburg, Pa., are visiting her aunt, Mrs. Reno, here.

Mineral Springs: The two sons of Ranzy Ennes who have had a severe siege of typhoid fever are improving. Dr. Bailey called on them Friday. He said they were doing nicely and if proper care were taken they would not require more medicine.

Union Valley: the infant babe of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Brown was buried at the Concord Cemetery the 25th.

East Purdy: Several from around here attended the fifty-first wedding anniversary dinner given Mr. and Mrs. Wash Montgomery of New Site last Thursday.

Pleasant Ridge: Ralph, the three year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Fields died at their home, at Baxter Springs, Kansas, Monday of stomach trouble. The remains were brought here for burial Tuesday. He was a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John McClellan of this place. The bereaved have our sympathy.

Line: The news came Monday to Mrs. Henson stating that her little niece was dead. She was buried Monday at Jenkins. Amos, Walter, Harve and Miss Vana Henson attended the funeral.

Line: The little son of Edgar Fields died Sunday at their home in Baxter, Kan., was brought back to Verona Tuesday and was buried at Spring River cemetery. Rev. Couch conducted the funeral at the cemetery. This was the fourth child to be called from Mr. and Mrs. Fields in the last three years. They have our heartfelt sympathy in their sad hour of grief.

McDowell: Mrs. W. D. Wainright attended the funeral of her step-mother, Mrs. Charleston at Shelbina, Mo.

Gunter: There was no school Thursday and Friday. Our teachers Mr. Truhitte and Miss Lowe attended the teacher's meeting at Springfield.

Butterfield: Rev. Scott has moved from Oak Ridge district to Butterfield. We are glad to welcome him to our community.

Sunnyside: Grandma Carden is very poorly at this writing.

Sunnyside: Ernest Hooker has another dishwasher who arrived last Wednesday.

Sunnyside: Mildred Persons of Vinita, Okla., will spend the winter with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Z. Persons.

New Site: Margaret Nancy, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pleas Carlin, is dangerously ill.

A. J. Cope of Hardy, Ark., is working at the REPUBLICAN office.

Will Farwell, Mr. Faulkner and Floyd Whittington of near Eagle Rock were here Wednesday.

A Mr. McClure, an expert stone cutter, is now at work in the E. G. Bugg monumentworks of this city.

Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Daley of Sapulpa, Okla., are visiting Mrs. Daley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Bayless, northwest of town.

Report comes from the asylum at Nevada that Hervey Williard who is at the asylum from this county, while in a temporarily worse condition mentally than usual killed a man in the asylum who occupied the same room with Hervey. Hervey told the officials of the asylum that he killed the man and appeared to be wholly unable to realize just what it meant of what he had done. The man whom he is said to have killed came from Polk County. Hervey told the officials that the man attacked him.

Mrs. James Trolinger and little son, Houston, who have been visiting relatives at Gravette, Ark., for the past two weeks returned home Thursday night.

Riley Black and sister, Mrs. Curum Lauderdale, returned last week from a few days visit with their brother, Bud Black, and family at Fairland, Okla.

R. W. Whittington the Eagle Rock merchant and S. G. Bradley, merchant at Viola had business here the last of the week.

Cleo Wilder east of town who has traded for the Monroe Lucky stock of goods at Exeter is moving to Exeter this week.

Arnhart: The little two months old babe of Newt Smith has just recovered from a severe spell of pneumonia fever.

Arnhart: Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Whitiker returned to their former home in Kentucky Friday of last week leaving the many friends they had recently gained behind.

New Site: William Webber died last week of typhoid fever at the home of his sister, Mrs. Arthur Higgins. The funeral was held at New Site conducted by Rev. Brown of Purdy.

New Site: Mrs. Mattie Fleetwood of Newton County visited relatives here last week. Her sister Mrs. Cowan, came with her.

Shell Knob: Mrs. Ledgerwood accompanied her daughter, Mrs. Alexander, went to Arkansas a few days ago for treatment of cancer.

Seligman: A large crowd of anxious bidders attended the sale of Hazel B. Horn Saturday. Red Frost was the auctioneer. Frost seemed to be at his best and much of the stuff brought more than new articles.

Mineral Springs: Mr. and Mrs. H. Erwin, visited the latter's sister, Mrs. Timmons, Sunday.

Mineral Springs: J. M. Sisney's mother, Mrs. Wisdom, has moved back to Missouri. She occupies the Shelton farm on the Cassville and Shell Knob road.

Pleasant Ridge: The Swedish Baptist preacher, of Verona, will preach here next Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Everybody come.

R. B. Rudy Dead in Neosho: Neosho, Mo., Nov 2.


R. B. Rudy, a widely known citizen of Neosho died at his home here at 4 o'clock this afternoon after an illness of many months. Death was from stomach trouble.

Mr. Rudy, who was about 55 years old resided in this vicinity several years. He formerly was owner of the Rudy fruit farm near here, which was only recently divided into small tracts and sold. Mr. Rudy had been in ill health several years, undergoing an operation about a year ago. A widow and six children survive. The children all reside here.

Elliott Johnson Dead:


Mrs. J. J. Wallen received word last week of the death of her only living brother, Elliott Johnson who lived in Oklahoma.

Mr. Johnson was 76 years old. He was an old Union soldier and for many years a well known citizen of Barry County. Several years ago he moved to Oklahoma where he continued to reside until his death. He leaves a number of sons and daughters, all of whom have families. Mr. Johnson will be remember by practically everybody in the eastern part of this county where he lived so long. He is an uncle of W. C. Johnson of near Golden.

Mrs. J. J. Wallen is the only member of her parents' large family who is now living.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Weston south of town on Tuesday, Nov 14, a son.

A pie supper will be held at Pasley school house on Friday night, Nov 17, for the benfit of the Corinth cemetery.

Mrs. Malone Cox and daughter and Mrs. Jesse McCraw of Purdy spent Tuesday in Cassville the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Ault.

George Gee of Lawrence County is visiting his brother, Ruben Gee, and family near Eagle Rock.

Dr. W. T. Bailey went to Joplin Saturday night to see his daughter, Mrs. Carrie Morgan, who has been sick with appendicitis. It was thought that she would have to be operated upon but upon his arrival there he decided her condition would not permit an operation at present.

D. M. Nickle and son, Elmer, of Butterfield were transacting business in Cassville Wednesday.

Prof. Wilson has purchased Rev. Love's home.

Fred Mendor spent Sunday with his sister, Mrs. Walter Wormington, near Monett.

Sidney Henry of Rock Springs locality shot off two toes on his right foot, November 11. Sidney was standing on the front porch of his home watching for a hawk to shoot the gun was in some manner discharged. He is getting along nicely.

Denver Neill of Cato was arrested last week by Sheriff Brixey on a charge of carnal knowledge and assault upon a girl 15 years of age. He gave bond in the sum of $750. and his preliminary will be held at Monett on Nov. 29, before Justice of the Peace O'Dwyer.

Washburn Prairie: Mrs. Jewel Webb and son, T. J. visited with her sister, Mrs. P. D. Miller, Saturday.

Washburn Prairie: Miss Ella Mosely spent the latter part of last week with her niece, Mrs. Chas. Bryant, of Cassville.

Washburn Prairie: Mrs. Stella Farwell and daughter, Helen, of Eagle Rock have been visiting her parents, R. T. Raines and wife.

Butterfield: Fred Combs has his residence completed and is now living at home.

Cross Hollows: Born to Ernest Wallace and wife, the 10th, a girl.

Forest Grove: Mrs. J. W. Sharp and son, Gordon, are visiting at Springfield and Clever.

Seligman: A resident of Garfield, Ark., cut his throat Monday at about 2 p.m.

Seligman: Born to Prof. and Mrs. Lionel Hulsey, Monday, a bright eyed daughter.

Mineral Spring: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Geo. England, Saturday, Nov 11, a son.

Munsey: Geo. Skelton has returned home from Idaho.

Union Valley: Miss Nanah Hopkins is getting along nicely with her school at Union Valley.

Hazel Dell: James Moore has bought his old barber stand at Purdy and is said to be doing fine.

R. H. Elam and R. W. Whittington of Eagle Rock were in Cassville Wednesday.

Circuit court adjourned Wednesday, to meet again on December 5, to finish the criminal docket.

The Monett Times report the sickness of Prof. James McNally who is principal of the Monett Central School.

Miss Ruth Beasley, a teacher in the Purdy schools, spent Sunday in this city the guest of Misses Elsie Ayre and Mabel Gorman.

Miss Lillian Edgar of Aurora spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. O. Edgar, west of town.

Sheriff elect Wm. Houston has purchased the J. E. Lamb residence property in the south part of town. Consideration $1500. Mr. Houston will move to Cassville this week.

Rock Springs: Sidney Henry's foot is getting along very well and it is thought that Sidney will soon be up and around.

Sunnyside: Ivey and Floyd Still visited with their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Benton Lenox, Saturday and Sunday.

Butterfield: Mrs. R. W. Poplin is seriously sick and not expected to live. She has been suffering form a liver trouble for some time.

Flat Creek: Miss Bertha Russell of Cape Fair is visiting at present with her sister, Mrs. O. E. Foster.

Flat Creek: Miss Zella Wills died Saturday night, November 11, of typhoid fever, and was laid to rest in Carney Cemetery, Monday, November 13. She was the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith of near Cape Fair. Besides her husband she leaves a father, mother and 4 sisters and other relatives to mourn her loss. To the bereaved we offer our deepest sympathy.

Munsey: We were sorry to hear about John Ball accidentally shooting himself in the eye. We understand that his eye ball will have to be taken out.

Washburn Prairie: James Raines is teaching a singing school at this place.

Purdy: Zinn Wilson made a business trip to Pierce City Monday.

Union Valley: Mrs. Date Brattin is quite poorly with rheumatism.

Seligman: Lionel Hulsey couples a new name on his new girl every time a friend suggests one.

Seligman: John Ball who lives in the north part of town shot himself in the face the last of the week.

Seligman: Taylor of Rogers, Ark., is doing some repair work on Fawver's mill. This is the oldest mill in Barry County.

Obituary: Lucy A. Reid was born December 18, 1835, near Middlegrove, Randolph County, Mo., and died at her home on King's Prairie near Monett, November 19, 1916, aged 80 years, eleven months, and one day. She united with the Christian Church at Middlegrove at the age of sixteen and remained a steadfast Christian all her life. Everyone knew her as Aunty Lucy. On account of ill health she stayed at home a great deal.

The funeral services were held by Rev. Counts at the Union church and the body laid to rest in the King's Prairie cemetery, Monday, Nov 20.

Huffman - Thomas


A quiet wedding occurred at the Presbyterian parsonage in Aurora Saturday evening. The contracting parties were Loy Huffman and Miss Lois Thomas both of this place, Rev. Willis officiated. Mrs. Huffman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira C. Thomas and is a highly accomplished and talented young lady. Mr. Huffman was raised in Verona and is at the present time interested in the Verona Elevator with his father. He is one of our bright young business men and we predict for the young couple a bright and happy future. We congratulate them. Verona Advocate.

Mrs. Huffman is a niece of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Thomas of this city.

Mrs. Dora Lloyd arrived the first of the week from Whitten, Ark., for a visit with her mother, Mrs. J. R. Sullivan and other relatives.

Virgil Davis of Oklahoma who has been visiting his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Kenerston for several weeks returned to Oklahoma Monday.

John McFarland, age 104 years, died at Noel, Mo., on Nov. 24. He was a veteran of the Mexican and civil wars, having fought on the Union side in the latter struggle. He was fond of out of door life, hunting and fishing. This and the fact that he had no bad habits he attributed to his long life.

Aunt Sarah Miller died at her home in Verona Saturday afternoon. She had been sick only a week. Mrs. Miller was one of the pioneer settlers of Lawrence County, coming here with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Allen in 1840 when six years of age. They settled on the farm which then embraced the "Old Spanish Fort" where she lived till her marriage with Allen Miller, September 30, 1851. With her husband she resided on what is now the head of the River farm, till 1863 when she removed to the home where she died. Her husband has been dead for some twenty or more years. S. R. Reynolds went to Anderson, McDonald county, Tuesday after a little eight year old girl the niece of Ann Harris of this city. The little girl's father died about three years ago; her mother married again and died a few weeks ago leaving the little girl with a home and Mrs. Reynolds went after her that she might make her home with her aunts in this city.

Chas. Mitts of Neosho visited his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Z. L. Roberts, a part of last week and the first of this week, returning home Tuesday.

Clarence Neeley was arrested last week on grand jury incidences charged with violating the local option law and carrying concealed weapons. He gave bond.

The six months old babe of Mr. and Mrs. Benton Starkey living in the west part of town died last week. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Petty and interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery Thursday.

Lester Loftin and Miss Margaret Evans were married Monday at the recorder's office by Probate Judge C. M. Landis. Mr. Loftin is a member of the firm of Loftin & Moore at Mineral Springs and a young man of exemplary habits and Mrs. Loftin is from Pennsylvania and has been visiting relatives at Mineral for some time and made many friends. The young couple will make their home at Mineral and their many friends wish them much happiness.

As F. N. Reese was turning the corner west of Black's Cafe Thursday morning with his car he accidentally collided with the delivery wagon of the Perkins Produce Co., being driven by Walter Vanzandt throwing Mr. Vanzandt out and bruising him some. The sun was shining on the shield of Mr. Reese's car throwing a glare of light in his face and he could not see the hack. No damage was done to the hack.

Mrs. Joe Jackson of Monett was visiting her mother, Mrs. Baze in this city Saturday.

Butterfield: Cass Jeffries folks are under quarantine on account of their daughter, Clara, having the diphtheria. It is thought there will be no danger of other children taking it as she did not go to school the day before the other children of the family have been given the antitoxin treatment.

Wheaton: Erd Paul and family left Tuesday morning for Greely, Colo., where they will make their home.

East Purdy: Mrs. Jane Edens and daughter, Gusta, visited at Seigel Henderson's Monday.

Pleasant Ridge: Several from here attended the Song Convention at the C. P. Church on Clay Hill Sunday. The next convention will be at C. P., the first Sunday in April, 1917.

Cross Hollows: Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hoggett and daughter, Nineva, visited T. J. Luney, Sunday.

Munsey: Geo. Haddock preached at Munsey Sunday and Sunday night.

Munsey: J. V. Shull and son, Raymond, of Newtonia, visited his sister, Mrs. Mary Prier, last week.

Munsey: Arthur Maloney's house was destroyed by fire the other day. All the furniture was saved.

New Site: Mrs. Bertha Miller was called Saturday to the bedside of her grandfather who was dangerously ill. He died Sunday and the funeral was held Monday at 2:30.

Seligman: They are graveling the road between Seligman and Washburn. This is the only streak of muddy road on the White Way between Monett and Rogers.

Mrs. Julia Freeland went to Pierce City Thursday morning to visit her brother, Bob Bennett. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett, Garland Bennett and Mrs. Freeland motored over to Neosho and spent Thanksgiving with relatives. Monett Times

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wormington are now located at Roswell, New Mexico, where they went for Mrs. Wormington's health.

Mrs. Kirk Douthitt of near this city received word Monday that her brother, Wm. Abron, of near Reed Station had accidentally shot and killed himself that day. No particulars had been learned as to the accident. He leaves a wife and three children.

Mrs. Hattie Fox came down from Carthage last week and spent Thanksgiving with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. LeCompte.

Mrs. J. J. Edens went to Seligman Saturday to visit her son, Chas. Edens, and family.

Mrs. Geo. Reams, south of town left Friday night for Westville, Okla., to visit her brother, Bert Hefley and family.

Miss Nettie Smith who is teaching school near Fairland, Okla., came in last week and spent Thanksgiving with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Smith, returning to school Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Statts and three children of Carl Junction visited Mrs. Statts grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Higganbotham and uncle, C. D. Higganbotham and family Thursday and Friday. They went to Washburn Saturday to visit Mr. Statts sister, Mrs. W. L. Black. They retuned home Sunday accompanied by Mrs. Black for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Statts, Sr.

Wheaton: Forest Lambert left Friday for Wichita, Kans., where he has a job.

Wheaton: Misses Hattie and Clara Swindle who have been attending school at Springfield are visiting home folks at present.

McDowell: Clint Marbut has a new Ford, also Vede Marbut a Dort.

McDowell: Born to Dr. Robertson and wife, a daughter, Nov. 26, mother and babe are getting along nicely.

McDowell: Mrs. Cordelia Browning and daughter, Mrs. Ora Askin, and family of Marionville visited Mrs. Browning sisters, Mrs. John Martin and Mrs. will Dyer, Sunday.

McDowell: Mrs. Milton Owens was buried in the Calton cemetery Sunday. She had been sick for some time. She leaves a mother, husband, eight children and a host of to her relative and friends to mourn her loss. She was about 63 years old. The bereaves have our sympathy.

McDowell: Elbert Crouch went to Mt. Vernon Sunday to visit his wife who is at the sanitarium. She is not improving much.

Forest Grove: Henry Beeson has bought Herman Gibson's interest in the Beeson & Gibson sawmill.

McDowell: There was a large crowd attended the funeral of Mrs. Milt Owens Friday Dec 1. Mrs. Owens was a kind and loving wife and mother and was loved by all who knew her. The bereaved father and family have our deepest sympathy. Rev. Mark Combs preached a very impressive funeral sermon.

Mineral Spirng: Mr. Dillworth and little daughter expect to leave soon for Illinois. Lester Loftin will occupy the house vacated by them.

Forest Grove: A letter from Earl Beeson and wife of Webb City states the arrival of a baby girl at their home on Nov. 24. Grandpa Beymer walks rather slow.

Mineral Spring: Mrs. A. E. Duncan visited her aunt, Mrs. H. W. McCluer, Friday.

Seligman R. F. D.3: Troy Cornell and Gene Frost motored to Eagle Rock Sunday.

Seligman R. F. D. 3: School at Munsey is progressing nicely with Homer West as teacher.

Sunnyside: Mrs. Cynthia Still spent Thanksgiving with her son, James Still and family.

Seligman: Bixey Wilson an attorney of Garfield, Ark., was in town on business Friday.

Cedar Bluff: Quite a crowd gathered at the home of John McPhail Thanksgiving and had a surprise dinner in honor of his wife's birthday.

Hazel Dell: Mrs. James Moore and children of Purdy are visiting her father, P. A. Boucher and family.

Gunter: The little babe of Jess Golden has been very sick.

Butterfield: The pie supper at Gunter Saturday night was a decided success. Both rooms were crowded and everybody seemed just running over with enthusiasm and quite a number said the order was the best they ever witnessed at a pie supper. There were 64 pies. A cake for the prettiest girl brought $16.25, Miss Lula Robbards being the winner. The bidding was all friendly but spirited and was the most interesting by the girls on a cake for the best looking boy which brought $8.15, Monroe Whittington receiving the cake.

Thos. Henbest and Thos. Jones left Monday for Arkansas to be gone several weeks.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller southwest of town, Monday, Dec 11, a ten pound boy.

Chas. Bush arrived Monday from Muncey, Ind., to visit his brother, A. R. Bush, and family northeast of town.

Everet Mattingly about nineteen years old and a son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mattingly, living north of Exeter died Thursday evening after an illness of about three or four hours. He had gone from home to take a plow to Ernest McNabb's and was taken with a cramping in the stomach.

John Hutchens came in from Arkansas to see his father, E. M. Hutchens, who is very sick with typhoid fever.

Mrs. Helen Hobbs visited her daughter, Mrs. Lon Perry, at Monett last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Venior of Carthage came over Monday night to see Mrs. Venlor's father, E. M. Hutchens, who is very sick with typhoid fever.

Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Hadley and Miss Ida Abernathy motored to Pierce City Sunday. They were accompanied on their returned by Mrs. Blackstone Abernathy who will visit her son, H. O. Abernathy, and family.

The trial of John Rhinehart comes up Monday, Dec 18, with attorney T. D. Steele of Monett acting as judge.

J. C. Epperly and brother, F. A. Epperly of Shell Knob were in Cassville Saturday.

The mill at the Flannery mine which burned recently was estimated to be worth from $50,000 to $100,000. It is said to have been one of the finest mills in the Sarcoxie mining district.

Miss Lois Wainwrigt of McDowell who has had the typhoid fever is able to be up. Her sister, Margaret is now sick.

Sheriff Brixey with Selby Plattenburg as guard went to Jefferson City Friday evening to take Frank Wright and Oscar Newman to serve sentences of five years each.

William Bingham was brought down from Purdy Tuesday and lodged in jail to serve a six months sentence for slander.

Jones Wilson and son, Robert, of Flat Creek were in Cassville Tuesday paying taxes and looking after other business.

E. H. Trolinger has been at Wagoner and Durant, Okla., for the past two weeks returned home Sunday.

Chas. Webber came in last week from Ludlow, Colo., for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Webber.

East Purdy: Wallace Montgomery who is ill at the home of his sister, Mrs. John Roller, is improving.

East Purdy: Mr. and Mrs. Jake McCraw visited their son, Jesse, at Purdy, Sunday.

East Purdy: Carl Terry is working at Monett. He is a city mail carrier.

East Purdy: Clarence Shepherd is ill with the pneumonia fever.

Independence: Dock Hooten is going to move to Arkansas soon.

Seligman: Mrs. James Barnes quietly passed away at her home west of town the last of the week. Mrs. Barnes was highly respected and liked by all and will be missed in her neighborhood where she had a host of friends a number of relatives.

Mt. Pleasant: Mrs. August Erickson died Saturday night of erysipelas. She had been sick only a short time. She leaves a husband and nine children to mourn their loss. The bereaved have our sympathy.

Pleasant Ridge: We have two weeks more of schools, Levi Roller teacher.

Pleasant Ridge: Ray Pennel is on the sick list.

Mineral Springs: Grandpa Braught's body was laid to rest here Sunday afternoon. Preceding the burial the funeral service was conduced at the church by Rev. Love of Cassville. Grandpa had attained the age of 82 years, 5 months and 5 days. He will be missed by a large circle of friends beside the vacancy he leaves in the home. Our warmest sympathy is extended to the bereaved loved ones.

Leann: The infant babe of Mr. and Mrs. Davie McCubbin of Monett was buried at this place Friday, Dec 8.

Leann: The trial of Claud Anderson was not held Saturday, Dec 9, on account of a misunderstanding of Prosecuting Attorney Burgess and is set of Saturday, Dec 16.

Leann: Henry Zinn is very poorly at this writing.

Butterfield: Jim Webb lost control of his auto, Sunday and the car was slightly damaged and Mrs. Webb's arm was injured by coming in contact with a wire fence, don't know, whether Jim "hollerd" whoa! or not.

Rock Creek: Mrs. Ada Collins and children of Galena, Kans. are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Channel.

Washburn Prairie: John Banks of Monett visited his brother, Denver Banks, and family here from Thursday till Sunday.

Washburn Prairie: Mrs. Frank Irby and children of Jenkins is spending a few days with her sister Mrs. A. J. Hopkins, and family.

Flat Woods: Mrs. Hub Sands and little son, Devere, are visiting at her father's Ed Bennett, this week.

Wheaton: Golden Burnett moved his drilling to Oklahoma in the Quapaw reservation last week. He has a large drill contact there.

In the trial of John Rhinehart Tuesday charge with passing a bogus check the jury disagreed. This is the second trial, the first trial resulting in a hung jury.

Herman Rains, Malone Cox, and Chas. A. Rose, cashier of the First National Bank of Purdy were in Cassville Tuesday attending court as witnesses in the Rhinehart case.

Mr. Bryan of Washburn was in Cassville Tuesday. Mr. Bryan recently returned from Texas where he and the champion checker player of the state had a two day game. The first day they played over one hundred games all of them being draws but one which was won by the Texan. In the second day's series Mr. Bryan says that he defeated his opponent every game.

B. F. Irby of near Jenkins was in Cassville Tuesday on his way to the home of Robert Stubblefield south of town where Mrs. Irby and children had been visiting for the past three weeks. Mr. Irby informed the Republican that the old Irby home one mile northeast of Jenkins burned Monday morning about 3 o'clock. He did not learn the cause of the fire. A Mr. Swartzfiger was batching in the house.

A little fight was pulled off here Saturday night in which a young Mr. Fogg came out second best.

What might have proven to have been a serious accident occurred to Mrs. W. E. Bell and son, Robert, as they were returning to their home south of town Tuesday afternoon. They had come to town in an enclosed buggy and as they were returning their horse became frightened just south of the post office and ran away and in making the turn just south of the F. N. Reese residence upset the buggy. Mrs. Bell was cut quite severely and bruised on the face and arm, one piece of glass piercing her nose. Robert was cut severely on the face with glass. They were taken to the home of Benton Robbins near by and Dr. Chandler was called and dressed the wounds. Later Mrs. Bell was taken to the home of J. H. Mitchell and Robert to the home of Earl Mitchell. One of the shafts came loose from the buggy and is supposed to have frighten the horse. The buggy was badly damage.

J. C. Tucker of Golden was in Cassville Saturday. He stated that he did not think that it got to zero Thursday night at his locality. He says that his mother, Mrs. Richard Tucker, has not been in very good health for some time and is now confined tot he house most of the time.

Miss Beatrice Buzzetti who is attending Drury college came down Friday night to spend the holidays at home.

On Dec 13 Eld. J. T. Brattin pastor of the church and Eld. S. M. Petty, pastor of the Baptist church of this city closed a successful series of meeting at the Antioch Baptist Church west of this city. Eld. Petty did most of the preaching to the delight of the people and gave them the Gospel in the old time way and relied on the spirit to make it effective. There were many convicted of sin and six professions of faith were made with six additions to the church. Eld. Petty greatly endeavored himself to the people. On Sunday, Dec 17 Eld Brattin baptized six in Flat creek near the mill in Cassville, they were W. A. Williams, wife and daughter, Bessie, Mrs. Rosa Hoog, Misses Effie Hankins and Maybell Wisman who united with the Antioch church.

A. J. Anderson received a letter last week from his son, Albert, who lives at West, Texas, stating that his wife had the typhoid fever.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Williams south of this city visited Mrs. William' father, J. M. Shipman, near Aurora Thursday.

Mrs. Geo. Reams returned Saturday night from a visit with her brother, Bert Hefley, and wife at Proctor, Okla.

Union Valley: Ed Butler sold his farm to Wm. Glossin. Mr. Butler is moving near Exeter. Mr. Glossin is moving into the house vacated by Mr. Butler. Arthur Powell is moving to the J. C. Crane place where Glossin has lived for the past two years.

New Site: Orville Banks of Washburn Prairie has been visiting relative and friends in this vicinity.

Munsey: We understand Frank Shrum's house was destroyed by fire Sunday evening while the family were all at church.

Munsey: Mrs. Tucker is not so well at present.

Flat Creek: Mr. and Mrs. D. I. Potter visited Saturday night with their daughter Mrs. Seige Bowman and family.

Washburn Prairie: Wednesday night, Dec 13 about 70 relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Smith and set a bountiful supper in honor of their 20th wedding anniversary. It was quite a surprise to Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The evening was very pleasantly spent by all. G. B. Vaughn furnished some excellent music with his phonograph.

South of Monett: Mrs. Reno is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Bert Martin, at Monett this week.

South of Monett: Mrs. Wash Goodnight spent Saturday with her son, Brit, who is ill with typhoid fever.

Seligman: Mrs. Omer Wilson is very sick and Mr. and Mrs. Abbott, her parents, have been here.

Seligman: Mrs. N. P. Anderson returned from Monarch Springs where she had been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Payne.

Cedar Bluff: Fred McPhail visited at Merrel Swaffar's Sudnay.

Victory: Clyde Towe visited Mrs. Jess Towe Sunday.

Pleasant Ridge: Vada McClellan left Saturday for Webb City to visit her brother, Jake, and family. She will go on to Baxter Springs, Kan., in a few days to her sister's, Mrs. Edgar Fields.

Oak Ridge: Born to W. F. Pasley and wife a big Republican boy, December 8th. Mother and baby is doing fine.

Oak Ridge: James Craig's house was struck by lighting Thursday of last week, tearing the flue down to the roof, going done the stove pipe tearing it open, knocking the baby down who was standing by the stove and stunning Mrs. Craig, not enough however to keep her from picking up the baby and running out in the rain which possibly had something to do with reviving them. The house was wrecked some weather boarding and plastering torn off. Very fortunate that it did not kill Mrs. Craig and the two small children at home.

Mineral Spring: Jess Duncan left Saturday. He will visit his brother at Columbus, Kans., during the holidays and go to Illinois.

Shell Knob: Mrs. Manley is staying with Mrs. Lafontain since Mr. Lafontain's death.

Mable Dummit Dead


Miss Mable Dummit died at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. Her death was caused by taking chloroform about four weeks ago. Since that time she had been in a pitiable condition and suffered great agony. She took the poison during a fit of despondency. She was the daughter of Robert Dummit of Purdy, and had been working in the telephone office at Monett. During her illness she was cared for at the home of her uncle J. D. Dummit, at this place. Funeral services were held at the Purdy Methodist church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Interment was made in the Purdy cemetery. Monett Times.

F. L. Carl returned Monday to his home in Siloam Springs, Ark., after a few days visited with this daughter, Mrs. L. A. Dunbar and family.

Otto Thomas and sister, Merle Thomas, and Miss Bonnie Wilson spent Christmas at Crane.

Elmer Skelton and J. C. Whittington of Eagle Rock are planning to go to Idaho in the spring.

Mrs. Lillian Edgar of Aurora spent Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. O. Edgar, west of this city. She was accompanied by Miss Jenkins, head stenographer at the Menace office.

Jacob Fringer of Tower Hill, Ill., is visiting his sister, Mrs. J. W. Sherwood, and family of this city.

William Anderson and Miss Nellie Stumpff both of Cassville were married at the home of the bride's father, Frank Stumpff at 6 p.m. Christmas day. Eld. J. T. Brattin performed the ceremony. Their many friends extend to them congratulations.

Today, Thursday, there will be celebrated at Eagle Rock the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Skelton. The REPUBLICAN will try and give a write up of it next week.

Ryland Petty of Newberg and Harold Petty of Republic spent a few days here last week with their parents, Rev. and Mrs. S. M. Petty. Ryland is editor of a newspaper at Newberg and is one of the youngest editors in the state being only nineteen years of age.

On Christmas day Mrs. Nelsle Marlow and Arthur F. Marlow of Garreston, S. D., were married at the home of the bride's father, Thomas Hilburn at near Butterfield, Eld. J. T. Brattin officiating. After the ceremony a bountiful dinner was enjoyed by all present.

Miss Myrtle Baird who is teaching school at near Sulphur Springs, Ark., is at home for the holidays.

H. D. Miller who moved to Gravette, Ark., a year or so ago has returned to Barry county and is now located on his farm in Forest Grove neighborhood.

Frank Stockton and Miss Clora Davis, daughter of O. L. Davis of Washburn, were married Sunday at the home of Rev. Love of Cassville. They left that evening for Purdy to visit Frank's parents. They will make their home at Washburn and their many friends extend to them their hearty congregations.

Pike Hailey and sister, Miss Agnes, visited their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Hailey, Sunday.

Allen Sills who has been at Amarillo, Texas, for some months came in Saturday to visit his father, Fred Sills.

Mrs. Dora Talbert went to Oklahoma last week. She expects to spend the winter with her daughter, Mrs. Willa Morris in Tulsa.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hankins and little babe came up form Ft. Smith, Ark., to spend the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.T. Hankins and Mrs. Bedford Hessee, west of this city.

Bert Farwell and wife of Idaho came in Tuesday to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Farwell and other relatives.

Sheriff G. M. Brixey returned Saturday from Bolivar where he went after C. G. Beaver who was wanted in this county on a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses. At Monett on his return he picked up Emmett Granger, charged with robbery of the Davie & Chappell store at Monet some days ago. Granger was arrested in Kansas City and brought to Monett by officer Smerdon and turned over to the sheriff. Beaver's preliminary comes up today, Wednesday, in Monett. Granger waived his preliminary and his trial will come up at the March term of the circuit court.

Wheaton: Mrs. G. F. Hurd of Lamar, Colo., arrived here Tuesday morning to spend the holidays with friends and relatives. While here she will visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. McGlothin of Rocky Comfort and her sister-in-law, Mrs. El Allmon, of this place, and other relatives at Washburn. She visited Mr. Hurd's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Hurd and a nephew, Guy Sappenfield at Burns, Kansas.

Hazel Dell: Rev. Frank Linebarger preached at Calvary Sudnay.

Shady Grove: Miss Edith Hankins who is teaching Lawrence coutnyis at home for the holidays.

Arnhart: T. F. smith and wife, Hershal Miller, Miss Ola Chustman, Dave Burg and family spent Xmas with William Smith and family on Little Flat and enjoyed a fine dinner made for the latter's father.

Washburn Prairie: "Uncle Mead" Sparkman is visiting with his daughter, Mrs. Kitt Sims, near Cassville.

Washburn Prairie: A family reunion was held Sunday at Mrs. H. J. Hopkins. Those present were the families of J. B., J. S., and A. J. Hopkins and P. E. Smith and Mrs. Maggie Varner, S. J. and Dalton Varner, Misses Edith Herren, Kitt and Pauline Varner.

New Site: John Banks and Miss Ida Lautaret left Sunday morning for a visit with Miss Ida's sister, Mrs. Ora Higgins at Liberty.

South of Monett: Joel Bounous came in Sunday to spend the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Bounous.

Hazel Dell: Little Joseph Harold Saltz, son of Alex Saltz died in Kansas City, Dec 21, and was buried at Concord Sunday, Dec. 23. Dr. Campbell of Fayetteville, Ark., conducted funeral services.

Rocky Comfort: Mrs. May Freeman and Jessie Murphy of near Stella were Rocky Comfort visitors Wednesday.

Rocky Comfort: Ernest Long who has been quite sick with typhoid fever is reported better at present.

McDowell: Ethel Marbut and family of this place and Mrs. Billie Miller, Hugh Lackey and wife of Verona ate dinner at Dimmit Wainwright's Sunday.

McDowell: Dimmit Wainwright's two daughters that have been sick with typhoid fever are able to be up.

Butterfield: Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wallace and daughter, Lucille, also Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ferguson and babe and Curtis Ferguson of Republic spent Christmas with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Ferguson of near this place.

Seligman: Geo. Frost was very sick awhile Saturday. The doctors pronounce it apoplexy.

Seligman: C. A. Reed, clerk for C. W. Fawver, spent Sunday in Arkansas and visiting his mother-in-law, Mrs. Hooker.

Seligman: Miss Helen Fawver is spending her vacation at home. She is a student at Columbia.

Cedar Bluff Items: Ben Shipman attended Sunday school at Victory Sunday.
