Personal and Local News: Horace Brock, son of Mrs. W. J. Brock, of Shell Knob continues dangerously ill. He has been sick since the death of his father more than two months ago.

Personal and Local News: G. T. Bartmess, Ed Clark and W. C. Johnson appeared before the court in behalf of a bridge across White River at the Golden Ferry. They recommended that there would be a donation of from $1200 to $1500. The court being of opinion that a bridge across White River is a public necessity, it ordered that the County Highway Engineer ascertain the best place to bridge said river and get estimates of probable cost for building a substantial iron bridge.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Dora Talbert has returned from an extended visit with her daughter, Mrs. Robert Morris, at Tulsa, OK.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Jane Freeze of the House locality was stricken with paralysis Thursday. Her condition, however, is not believed to be serious.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. L. F. Filewood returned Saturday evening from a visit at Joplin.

Personal and Local News: Miss Mary Hailey, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Hailey of Cato, and Franklin Carr, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Carr who lives near Shell Knob, were lately married at Springfield. The REPUBLICAN joins in their many friends in extending congratulations.

Willow Branch News: Judge Henson and granddaughter, Carrie, went to Cassville, Monday.

Hazel Dell News: Miss Corda Talbert retuned home at last after a months visit with her sister at Rogers, Ark.

Hazel Dell News: Mrs. Nellie Alexander and children of Oklahoma have been visiting her uncle, W. C. Ferguson, and family, the past two weeks. She started home Monday evening.

New Salem News: Aunt Mary Pendergraft visited with her sister, Mrs. John Edens, from Friday until Sunday. They accompanied her home Sunday and stayed until Monday.

New Salem News: Aunt Mary Pendergraft and son, Elbert, and family attended the funeral of Aunt Malinda Edens of Rock Springs. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Mano News: E. B. Holman and J. H. Aldridge attended the I. O. O. F. anniversary meeting at Cassville last Wednesday.

Mano News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Easley, April 30th, a son.

Gunter News: Uncle Sam Slush died Friday and was buried Saturday at the Sparks Cemetery. He was above 60 years old and was a single man.

Gunter News: George Payne, son of Charles Payne, died Monday evening at 7:30 O'clock of spinal meningitis. He took sick Sunday morning and suffered severely. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon and interment made at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Rock Springs News: Mrs. T. J. Barnes and P. E. Roller's health is very poor at this writing.

Mineral Springs: Otis Baker and family and Will and his father visited at Curtis Baker's Sunday.

East Purdy News: Miss Anna Marbut is working in Walker's restaurant at Purdy.

East Purdy News: Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Ellis of near Verona visited Mrs. Ellis parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Russell, Sunday and Sunday night

East Purdy News: Mrs. Melvin Henson and little daughter Silby, and Jack Henson visited Mrs. Henson's brother, Jess Smith and family at Monett, Saturday and Saturday night.

Corinth News: Miss Clarice Smith is up again from pneumonia fever.

Cross Hollows News: Willie Madison of Hailey is visiting his uncle, T. J. Luney, and family this week.

Cross Hollows News: Grandma Hobbs died Monday morning, May 1, leaving several children and many friends and other relatives to mourn her death. The sorrowing ones have our sympathy.

Rocky Comfort News: Mrs. S. M. McCall and son of Fairview were visiting Dr. O. S. McCall and family here Tuesday.

Mrs. Elizabeth Hobbs died at her home in the Cross Hollows locality Sunday. She was about 80 years of age and had been suffering from paralysis for some time. Her son, Sheridan Hobbs, had made his home with his mother. A number of her children live in the same locality.

Mrs. Malinda Ann Edens died at her home near Washburn, April 27, 1916 of infirmities attending old age. She was in her 88th year, having been born Nov 23, 1828. [Click here to read]

Sherman Swindle, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Swindle of near Wheaton, was drowned, April 20, 1916, while trying to cross Buffalo Creek near his home at Dear, Newton County, Ark. [Click here to read]

Mrs. Caroline Stubblefield James died at the home of her nephew, Joe Taylor, near Crane, Monday. Interment was made near Marionville, Tuesday. [Click here to read]

Wm. N. Turner, who for a number of years lived in and about Cassville, died at this home in Joplin, Monday night. [Click here to read]

Personal and Local News: Brit Carlin and son, Ray, of near Monett were among the number who attended the school exercises here Saturday, May 6.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. James Talbert and little son, Willie, have been quite sick of measles but both are reported improving today.

Personal and Local News: C. A., Brit, Pleasant and Rev. Luther Carlin of near Monett and Fairview and W. S. Carlin of Purdy, sons of the late Marshall Carlin, attended probate court here Tuesday.

Personal and Local News: Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Witt attended the funeral of Thomas Vasser at Exeter, Saturday.

Personal and Local News: B. R. Truhitte of McDonald township was in Cassville Monday and reported the death of Rolin Henley an old citizen of near McDowell, a brother of Wm. Henley of this city.

Personal and Local News: W. S. Butts of Mt. Carmel, Audrain County, the singer who led the chorus in the revival held here last week at the M. E. Church, secured licensed to marry Tuesday. The bride is to be Miss Grayce Dale Sharp of Junction City, Ark.

Personal and Local News: L. H. Taylor of Mineral Springs received a message Tuesday of last week that a half brother, Franklin Shortwell, who lived in Joplin was dead. Mr. Taylor attended the funeral at Joplin Wednesday. Mr. Shortwell was 65 years old. His death was due to heart failure. He leaves a wife and four children. Mr. Taylor returned home Tuesday of this week.

Personal and Local News: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Fogg, south of this city, received word lately stating that their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Walter Fogg had died April 25 in a hospital in New Orleans, La., where she had gone for treatment for cancer of the stomach. She was prior to her marriage to Walter Fogg, Miss Cora Cunningham. She was a niece of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Cunningham of the Pasley locality. She leaves three small children.

Personal and Local News: C. W. Eden south of this city, received a telegram Friday from relatives at Rogers, Ark., stating that George Minor, a nephew of Mr. Edens' was dead. Mr. Eden attended the funeral at Rogers Saturday returning home, Sunday evening. Minor was a single man, 34 years old. Diabetes was given as the cause of his death. He was a son of John Minor who at one time lived in this county. [Edens]

Personal and Local News: L. D. Bolen, Blake, Allen and sons, Arthur and Harry, of near Golden, spent Sunday night in this city and transacted business here Monday. They said King's River is fordable but they had to ferry White River.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. James Holman returned Thursday from Kansas City where she had taken her little son for treatment for tuberculosis of the hip.

Personal and Local News: Wilson Day accompanied the family of Wm. N. Turner from Joplin last week to attend Mr. Turner's funeral.

Personal and Local News: George Turner and son, Elliot, attended the funeral of their son and brother, W. N. Turner, here Wednesday of last week.

Personal and Local News: Chas. Bush of Muncie, Ind., came in last week for a visit with his brother, A. R. Bush.

Personal and Local News: Miss Flo Sullivan of Republic came over Friday for a visit with her sister, Mrs. E. M. Winters, and Cassville friends.

Personal and Local News: The little three years old son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Beck east of Cassville, while out at play one day last week fell from a ladder and broke an arm.

Gunter News: George Payne died very suddenly, the first day of this month, having been sick only two days. He was found unconscious Sunday morning about five o'clock and died Monday p.m. about 7:30 of what was thought to be spinal meningitis. He came from Texas this spring with his parents. They have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their hours of trouble.

New Site News: Miss Ida Lautaret and Knowles Haddock, John Banks and Farley Vermillion attended church at Ebenezer, Sunday.

New Site News: Mrs. Mattie Fleetwood and daughter, Crystel, from Newton County, spent Sunday with Mrs. Alice Fleetwood.

New Site News: C. A. Carlin and son, Virgil, attended the Mother's day services at New Liberty Sunday.

High Point News: Uncle Sam Slush of this community, who had been sick for some time, passed away last Friday, a week ago. Funeral services were at the Sparks school house, conducted by Elder Henson and interment made in the Sparks cemetery.

High Point News: Mrs. Sylvester of Oklahoma is visiting relatives in these parts. She is the youngest sister of W. R. Crane and Mrs. Hazelwood.

Sunnyside News: Mrs. E. Morgan and mother, Mrs. Cyntha Still, visited at R. A. Still's Sunday.

Midway News: Born to Chas. Holder and wife April 19, a ten pound boy.

Midway News: Mrs. Sarah Painter of Butterfield is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Holder, this week.

Rocky Comfort News: The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Kelley died Tuesday and was buried in the city cemetery, Wednesday.

Rocky Comfort News: J. B. Lilly received a message from Nevada Wednesday morning, stating that his brother, Perry, had died from the effects of pneumonia. The body was brought home on the 9:05 train Thursday morning. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, Friday afternoon, after which interment was made in the city cemetery.

Seligman News: C. F. Wilcox, clerk at the bank, of Seligman has erected a miniature mine in the window which is creating as much interest as the mining fever is high in our locality.

Hazel Dell News: A crowd from Exeter motored out to P. A. Boucher's Thursday evening. [Click here to read]

Washburn Prairie News: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Longley are visiting his sister, Mrs. Addah Mathews at Monett.

Washburn Prairie News: Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hopkins of Jennings, Okla., came Wednesday to see their sister, Miss Lulah, who has been very sick.

Personal and Local News: J.C. King of Purdy, Rt. 3, was here Monday. He and family and his father-in-law mean to leave this week for Sweetwater, Colo., where they will locate.

Personal and Local News: Mr. and Mrs. L. N. McFarland and adopted daughter, south of town, left Thursday for visits in Ohio, Michigan and other states. They will be gone all summer. Upon their return they mean to stock up their farm again, having sold off their stock a few weeks ago.

Personal and Local News: R. G. Salyer left Sunday night for Birmingham, Ala., to attend the annual reunion of the confederate veterans. Mr. Salyer seldom misses one of these reunions which is held during the month of May each year.

Personal and Local News: Albert Easley of the firm of Easley Bros. of Sycamore, Okla., came in Thursday and has been looking after business about his old home near Eagle Rock and at Mano. He says that they are getting started nicely with their store and have an encouraging business.

Personal and Local News: Lou Bennett and brother, George Bennett and wife, of Joplin motored to this city Sunday. They were accompanied home Sunday afternoon by Mrs. Lou Bennett and her mother, Mrs. J. J. Edens.

Personal and Local News: Miss Hilma Aaronson who has spent six years as a Missionary in India is visiting her sister, Mrs. C. D. Higganbotham. She gave a lecture Sunday evening at the Presbyterian Church on the "The life and customs of the people in India."

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Charles Hailey and little daughter of Detroit, Mich., arrived last week for a visit with Charles' parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Hailey, and other relatives in this county and at Pierce City.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. John Bubler of Enid, Okla., is visiting her sister, Mrs. J. F. Black.

Personal and Local News: Glenn M. Horine, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Horine of this city graduates on Tuesday, May 23, from the Western Dental College at Kansas City. Glenn has been very successful in his studies at the college and is to be congratulated upon receiving his degree.

Personal and Local News: Earl Mitchell went to Aurora Tuesday and purchased a new Buick six car. He, accompanied by George Griffin and H. Clay Funston, drove the car home Tuesday afternoon. Earl will be local dealer of the Buick car.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Frank Sater of Miller is visiting her daughters, Mrs. A. L. brown and Mrs. H. M. Allen in this city.

Union Valley News: Grant Eden and daughter, Maude, visited at Columbus Eden's near Purdy Sunday night and Monday.

Exeter News: Mrs. Georgia Brooks of Monett has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Venable.

Seligman News: Henry Birkes one of Barry County's oldest citizens, quietly passed away Wednesday. The remains were laid to rest in the Seligman cemetery. Mr. Birkes had been a resident of Barry County since the war and was liked by all. He leaves a family of children and a lot of friends.

Seligman News: Mrs. A. E. Ryan and two of her little boys of Washburn were visiting Mrs. Ryan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Bayless, last Wednesday.

Seligman News: Henry Parrish and family of Cassville spent Sunday with Mrs. Parrish's parents, Mr. and Mr. T. M. Bayless.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. James Trolinger returned Thursday from a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mr. Wm. Houston. Mr. Houston has been ill of fever.

Personal and Local News: D. M. Cadwalder and wife of Alvin, Texas, are visiting Mrs. Cadwalder's uncle, E. Twiligear, and family and other relatives near town. This is Mr. Cadwader's first trip to the Ozarks and he is very much impressed with our country and thinks of locating here. We assure Mr. Cadwalder that Texans make the best of Missourians and we extend to him now a hearty welcome to Barry County.

Personal and Local News: Miss Minnie Marlow was given a farewell party Friday evening by the members of the Baptist church at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Lowder. She left Saturday for South Dakota where her folks live.

Personal and Local News: Judge R. H. Elam motored to this city Wednesday. He brought to the train Mrs. Maggie Fleetwood and three little girls of the New Site locality who had been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Elam and other friends at Eagle Rock.

Rocky Comfort News: Miss Retha Sale of Diamond was visiting her sister, Mrs. D. A. Goostree, here last week.

Rocky Comfort News: Ray Kimbrough has purchased J. A. Hendon's interest in the Rocky Comfort Roller mills. Mr. Hendon in turn purchased the interest of T. O. Davidson in a 120 acre farm which they owned in partnership, one mile south of town, and will move to same soon.

Washburn Prairie News: A new girl arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Hopkins the 13.

Washburn Prairie News: Miss Sona Pyatt visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pyatt, near Eagle Rock, Saturday night and Sunday.

Will Bloomer, formerly of Monett, died at Joplin, and the funeral was held there at his home, Wednesday. He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. H. S. Horine and Mrs. D. S. Breece, of Monett. Those who went from Monett to attend the funeral were J. H. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Johnson, Edwin Johnson, Mrs. H. S. Horine, Miss Eunice Horine, Mrs. Blanche Moses and Mrs. Ed Wagner. Personal and Local News: Hal Richardson of Mt Vernon has been visiting his sister, Mrs. W. C. Robertson, this week. Mr. Richardson is a young Lawrence County teacher.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Aubrey Brown of Purdy who had been visiting her sister, Mrs. James Trolinger, returned home, Thursday.

Personal and Local News: Miss Mowery of Bell View, Ohio, arrived today for a visit with her friend, Mrs. E. L. Blankenship. Miss Mowery and Mrs. Blankenship were classmates while studying at the musical conservatory at Oberlin, Ohio.

Personal and Local News: James Thomas, died at his home at Aurora, Thursday of paralysis. He was a prominent stock man and was well and favorably known in this county. He formerly lived at Jenkins. He was a cousin of J. H. Thomas of this city.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Myrtle Corley of Welch, Okla., who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Riddle, at Mineral Spring retuned home, Tuesday. She was accompanied by her mother as far as Lake Side, Jasper County.

Personal and Local News: Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Lamar of Okmulgee, Okla., arrived Friday for a visit at Washburn and Cassville. They made the trip overland in their car and had a pleasant journey. They will be accompanied home by Jack Talbert, little son of Charles Talbert.

Personal and Local News: A message was received by Mrs. Guy Isabel, Wednesday evening, of last week saying that her son, Charles Davis, had died at Wasco, Oregon. He was a son of Joshua Davis who lived for many years in Roaring River township and in Cassville a few years before his death.

Personal and Local News: John Bridges was here Friday buying horses and mules. He bought eleven head. He has been one of the best buyers to visit this county during the past two years and has bought large shipments during that time.

Personal and Local News: Troy Williamson, who moved from this locality last fall to Boise City, Okla., writes his father, E. Williamson, of this city, that his wife's health is improving in a satisfactory manner and that he is enjoying the best of health. Mr. Williamson bought a 160 acre acre tract of land there and writes that at a land sale held there lately no quarter section sold for less than $4,000 which was much higher than Mr. Williamson had to pay when he purchased his tract. He is located in the extreme northwest part of Oklahoma.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. L. F. Filewood's mother, Mrs. Lumpkins, and a sister and daughter of Joplin, visited here Sunday. Her brother returned home Sunday evening, her mother and sister remaining for a longer visit.

Personal and Local News: Jack Anderson, Jr., was acquitted and Clarence Neeley bound over to circuit court under a $1,000 bond in Newton County last week upon a charge of "bootlegging".

Personal and Local News: Claud Marbut of Fayetteville, Ark., has been visiting in Cassville and with relatives near McDowell. He is recovering from injuries received in an automobile accident one year ago and will soon be able to throw away his cane and go back to his work in Texas.

Personal and Local News: C. R. Cargile of Kansas City arrived Tuesday evening for a visit with his cousins, Elzey and Carl Sullivan. He will also visit at Washburn. Mr. Cargile has a position with the inter-urban railway company at Kansas City.

Corinth News: By letter we are informed that Mrs. Bessie Scott of near Aurora, a daughter of Dr. Perkins of this locality, is not improving and that is very little hopes of her recovery.

East Purdy News: Miss Vesta Cox of near Bethel, visited her cousins, Ruth and Bessie Russell, Thursday night. She went from there to Purdy where she will visit other relatives before returning home.

Mineral Spring News: Mr. and Mrs. John Ryan visited their son, Frank, Saturday night and Sunday.

Mineral Spring News: Edward Brandon came in Friday morning too late to see his mother who was buried Thursday afternoon. He will return to his home in Buffville, Kans., Tuesday.

Mineral Spring News: Mr. Cole, an old solider living here, attempted to end his life Sunday morning by placing a bullet in his head but the bullet did not penetrate far into the skull and was removed by Dr. Bailey with little injury done.

Sunnyside News: Aunt Cynthia Still returned home Thursday from a two week's visit with her son, John, and family. Her granddaughter, Cynthia Still accompanied her home.

Gunter News: Miss Cora Blalock is confined to her bed again with something like appendicitis.

Gunter News: Alfred Hemphill and family visited Sunday with his brother, Loy Hemphill.

Hazel Dell News: C. T. McNabb had a 3 year old mule killed by lighting last night.

Hazel Dell News: Press Hilton of Jenkins and family were visiting his father-in-law, Billy Zinn, and family, Saturday and Sunday.

Seligman News: Lizzie and Margaret Patterson of Kansas City are visiting their grandfather, C. A. Patterson.

Mrs. J. A. Saltz Dead: Mrs. Lana Saltz, wife of J. A. Saltz, and daughter of P. A. Boucher, of near Exeter, died June 7th. She had been in poor health for sometime and the first of April she with her husband went to Clayton, New Mexico, thinking the change would benefit her, but it did not, so they started back to Missouri and while on the way near Tex Oma, Tex., she passed away. Her remains were bought here and laid to rest in the Concord Cemetery, Tuesday, June 13. The funeral was conducted by Eld. Chas. Vanzandt. The large congregation attending was evidence of the esteem in which she was held.

She leaves a husband and three children, her parents, brothers, and sisters to mourn her departure. She was converted abut 8 years ago. A Friend.

Purdy News: W. A. Boucher drives a new "Grant 6" these days.

Pleasant Ridge News: Mrs. Walker died Tuesday evening. She and her daughter, Mrs. Virgie Ellis, had gone to the barn to drive some cattle away and when retuning she fell to the ground and died a few minutes later. She was fifty-two years old. She leaves a husband, one daughter and four sons to mourn her death. She was a member of the Baptist Church at this place. The remains were laid to rest in the Lee Cemetery, Friday. The bereaved have our sympathy.

McDowell News: Claud Marbut of Fayetteville, Ark., son of W. L. Marbut, is visiting his aunts, Mrs. John Martin and Mrs. W. W. Dyer, and J. M. Ethridge. This is Claud's old home and his many friends and relatives are glad to see him. He had the misfortune of getting his hip dislocated in an auto wreck in Port Arthur, Tex, where he had a good job. He said his father and brother, Douglass, are running a hotel in Fayetteville and doing well. Claud will return to Port Arthur after a short visit.

East Purdy News: Mrs. Jemima Smith, an old and respected citizen of this place passed away at the home of her son, Jesse Smith, at Monett, June 21. She was 74 years and 9 months old and was the wife of Jas. Smith and the mother of 12 children, 8 of the 12 having preceded her to that home above. The four children living are Jesse Smith of Monett, James and Jack Smith and Mrs. M. Henson of near Purdy. Funeral services were held at the Arnhart church Thursday and the body was laid to rest in the Arnhart cemetery. The bereaved have our sincere sympathy.

Line News: James Davis was called to Aurora to conduct the funeral of Mr. Roarer, Friday morning. He died Monday morning and was kept until his sister from Washington came. He had miners consumption.

Washburn Prairie News: Miss Jewel Skaggs of Rogers spent the past week with her cousins, Misses Electa and Ruth Miller.

Personal and Local News: Harris Hudson received a message Monday stating that his father, Joseph Hudson, was dangerously ill at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Douglas Marbut, at Fayetteville, Ark. Harris and wife left Monday evening for Fayetteville. The message stated that Mr. Hudson's condition was very serious.

Otto Short Dead: Otto Short died at his home on the Cassville and Exeter road Saturday, June 24, of tuberculosis, at the age of 36 years.

He had been in poor health for a long time. He and wife and son moved to the farm where he died about two years ago. His health continued to give way but he took his bed only about two weeks before he died.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Geo. S. Yarbrough and interment made in the Exeter cemetery Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Short made many friends during his short residence here. His family has the sympathy of the people of this community.
