Deaths: Uncle Frank Davis, one of the pioneer residents of Lawrence County, died at his home on Center Creek, Saturday morning, May 27, 1916, at 4 o'clock, after a long illness.

The funeral services were conducted at the Liberty church, four miles northwest of Monett after which interment was made in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. He was born April 1, 1846.

A devoted wife, three sons and one daughter mourn his death. The children are Will and Walter Davis, who reside near the old home place, Jack Davis and Mrs. J. A. Mayhew of St. Louis. His sisters are Mrs. F. M. Howard of Monett and Mrs. Nannie Stockstill of Miami, Texas, and his brother, E. M. Davis of Sulphur, Okla.

The deceased was a man of strict integrity, upright and honest in all his dealings and was university respected by his host of friends and acquaintances.

Mr. Davis was a soldier in the Union Army, a member of Company I, Second Regiment of Missouri Light Artillery.

No one filed for the offices of Representative, Coroner, Surveyor or Public Administrator on either ticket up to Wednesday noon, May 31, when the REPUBLICAN went to press. These vacancies will be filled by the county committees after the primary.

Thursday, June 1, is the last day for filling declarations as the law is generally interpreted but it is a question if a declaration filed on June 1 would not also be good. By counting that day there still remain 60 days to August 1.

Personal and Local News: It was reported in this city, Wednesday that George W. Gurley and Mrs. N. S. Baker of Purdy were married in Purdy, Tuesday evening. Rev. Whittington being the officiating minister. Mr. Gurley is one of the best known citizens of Purdy and this county, having been engaged in business at Purdy for many years up to a few years ago when he retired. Mrs. Gurley lived south of this city until a short itme ago when she moved to Purdy. The contracting parties are both highly esteemed citizens and will receive the congratulations of a host of friends.

Personal and Local News: M. M. Cox, brother of M. B. and Milligan Cox, died at Armer, Kan., Friday, May 26, 1916, at 12 o'clock, noon. The body will be brought to his city and funeral service will be held at the home of M. B. Cox, northeast of Monett, Sunday, by Rev. L.A. Smith, after which interment will be made in the Cox Cemetery. Monett Times.
