I. W. Nettleship, an enterprising and highly respected farmer living near Purdy, died Friday, Dec 31. He had been in poor health for sometime but had not been thought be dangerously ill but a very short time. [Click here to read]

S. A. (Alex) Erwin of Sanger, Calif., who was born and reared in this county and lived south of Exeter, died a few weeks ago at the home of a brother whom he was visiting at Sacramento. [Click here to read]

Seventy-two relatives, neighbors and friends, many of whom, lived several miles away, gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Ned) Easley near Eagle Rock on December 28 and gave them a surprise birthday dinner. [Click here to read]

Personal and Local News: W. S. Shaw of Oklahoma is visiting his brother-in-law, Fred Rausch, northwest of town.

Personal and Local News: Miss Nettie Smith closed a successful term of school in the Gaddis district, Thursday of last week. Miss Nettie gave excellent satisfaction and appreciation of her work was shown by the dinner set her and her pupils and the large attendance of patrons, regardless of bad weather, on the last day of school.

Personal and Local News: Chas. Bryant who is teaching near McDowell has had an attack of lagrippe and was forced to dismiss his school this week.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Paul Coleman of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Miss Genevieve Martin of Monett are guests of their sister, Mrs. Arthur Erwin.

Personal and Local News: James Conley whose home had been at Monett, died Sunday night at the county farm. He came to the county home on Christmas eve day. He was about 70 year sold and had been sick and weak minded for sometime. Conley was for a number of years employed by the city of Monett as street sweeper. He has a widow and children living there.

Personal and Local News: Curtis Boren of Pineville visited his uncle, George Erwin, of this city and aunt, Mrs. J. F. Pilant, of Exeter and relatives at Wheaton last week. He is associated with his brother, Boyce Boren, in the publication of the Pineville Democrat which they brought a few months ago. They are well pleased with their new business and are doing nicely.

Personal and Local News: Mace Dunbar of Benton County, Arkansas, came over Thursday for a visit with his brother, L. A. Dunbar.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. David Talbert returned Saturday from a visit with her brother, Alvin Baker, and a sister-in-law in Oklahoma.

Personal and Local News: Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Patterson of Monett celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary Dec 28.

Personal and Local News: Word was received Thursday that Mrs. Mary Bayless was dangerously ill at her home at Claremore, Okla. Mrs. Bayless had had lagrippe but took a relapse and pneumonia then set up. She is also bother with kidney trouble. Latter: Her brothers, R. L and Grant Stubblefield near town have been informed that her condition is much improved.

Personal and Local News: J. W. McCraw of Purdy was in Cassville Monday.

Personal and Local News: Albert Taylor was fined $10., and cost by Mayor Wilks for being intoxicated and disorderly on the streets of the city Christmas day.

Personal and Local News: Lois, little daughter of James Mitchell, has been quite sick for the past two weeks.

Personal and Local News: The many friends of J. H. Baird of Stotts City will be grieved to learn that his physician states that he can not live but a very short time and is likely to pass away at any time. He has had dropsy for the past two years.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. W. J. Dow of Washington D. C. arrived last week to attend her father, William Hawk, who has been very low.

Washburn News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoog, Christmas, a son.

Washburn News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. DeSheilds Sunday, Jan 2, a son.

Washburn News: Frank Fine fell on the ice Monday and came very near breaking his leg.

Washburn News: Mrs. E. A. Burnett was called to the bedside of her mother, Mrs. Polly Weston, Sunday after Christmas near Beaver, Ark., at the home of her son, John Weston. Aunt Polly fell and broke her hip. We learned from Mr. Burnett this morning, Monday that she is no better. This is a great misfortune as she is quite old.

Pleasant Ridge News: Ed Ellis, son of John Ellis, is very sick at this writing. He has congestion of the brain.

Seligman R. F. D. 3 News: Thos. Stapp, who has been visiting at Henry Brewer's the past week, left Tuesday for Kansas.

Seligman R. F. D. 3 News: U. V. Taylor who has been visiting at his father's Dr. E. C. Taylor, has gone to Omaha, Neb., for a short visit.

Rock Creek News: Dr. Newman of Cassville was called to see Mrs. Dave Gautney last Sunday.

Rock Creek News: Thomas Holman returned home to Harrison, Ark., after spending the holidays with his brothers, Jas. and will of this place.

Mano News: Chas. Edie has gone to Kansas.

Mano News: H. P. Holman is having a severe attack of neuralgia and lagrippe.

Seligman News: Jack Tillman has moved to the old lady Brison's farm north of town.

Seligman News: James Babb's son-in-law, Mr. Cook, was here the last of the week. He purchased a farm though Bank of Seligman.

Shady Grove News: Jack Harvey has moved into his new house.

Shady Grove News: Pleas Beal and wife visited at Chas. Audleman's Sunday.

Union Valley News: Jas. Long and family were called Sunday to Mrs. Long's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Metcalf's near Powell. Mrs. Metcalf is dangerously ill.

Flat Creek News Miss Mayme Ennis of Mineral Springs is visiting with her sister, Mrs. Charley Stumpff.

Flat Creek News: Those baptized Friday were Maynard Taylor, Claud Henson and Mrs. Mary Brandstetter.

Shell Knob News: Paris McCord and Lola, his sister, are taking care of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. R. James' things while the latter are visiting.

Shell Knob News: J.C. Snider and family left last Sunday morning for Aurora where they were to take the train that evening for Brandon, Colo.

Gaddis News: Riley Taylor came in a few days ago from Spokane, Wash., to visit his brother, Fred, and family and visit the old home place. He had not been here for ten years.

Gaddis News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Taylor, Dec. 30, a big girl.

Line News: Miss Hulda Loneburg died at her home three miles south of Verona, Dec 28, 1915, age 18 years, 10 months and 16 days. She was converted the 4th of August 1915. She was willing and ready to go. She had been sick about 18 months. She leaves father, mother, two brothers and six sisters to mourn her loss. They all attended the funeral but one sister in Oklahoma, Mrs. Mary Howe. Hulda was the youngest of the family. She was loved by all who knew her. The family have our heartfelt sympathy in their dark hour of trouble.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. America C. Potts, mother of Porter Potts of Wheaton, died Dec 30, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Woods, in Joplin. She had been in poor health for many years.

Personal and Local News: Clara Jones and Chandler Davis of Washburn attended the funeral of their aunt, Nancy Ennis, at Mineral springs, Sunday.

Personal and Local News: John Lathim of Mano spent Monday night in this city and went from here to Purdy to visit his son, Will.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. W. D. Dow of Washington D.C., who has been attending her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hawk, who have been sick, went to Pierce city Tuesday for a visit with Mr. Dow's mother and sister.

Personal and Local News: Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Martin moved Monday to their farm near Pioneer.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. James Mitchell accompanied her father, John Lathim, to Purdy, Tuesday where they are visiting Wm. Lathim and family.

Personal and Local News: The family of S. F. Whittington living east of town are under quarantine, a little grandchild being seriously sick there with diphtheria.

Personal and Local News: Ed McGlassen wife and children of Kansas came in Friday of last week to visit Mrs. McGlassen's father, Uncle John Parmley and other relatives. Uncle John has been confined to his room for some time with lagrippe.

Personal and Local News: James Reed of California has been visiting his brother, John Reed, of this city and relatives northwest of town. He thinks of locating.

Personal and Local News: Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Meador of Monett were guests of Rev. and Mrs. E. W. Love Friday and Saturday. They had been visiting Mr. Meador's mother, Mrs. Eason Vermillion near Jenkins.

Personal and Local News: Walter Barcus is preparing to move to Oklahoma soon. James Eubanks will move from A. L. Galloway farm where he has been living since his residence burned, to the Barcus property.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Carrie Morgan who is studying at a hospital in Kansas City spent Saturday and Sunday with her father, Dr. W. Bailey, and little son, Tom.

Personal and Local News: John and Geo. England of near Mineral Springs were in Cassville Friday. John has a herd of the White Faced cattle and finds that it pays to have thoroughbred cattle on the farm.

Personal and Local News: E. M. Burchett, a highly respected farmer, living near Purdy, died on January 5th, of pneumonia. He leaves a widow and a number of grown children. Mr. Burchett had been a citizen of Barry County for the past 40 years or more.

Personal and Local News: Chas. Haddock of Exeter has announced his candidacy for assessor of the Democratic ticket.

Personal and Local News: Grant Vaughn who has been at Willmore, Kan., came in Tuesday morning and will remain for awhile at least.

Hazel Dell News: A Mr. Evans of North Missouri is visiting his sister, Mrs. Phil Holt, and family.

Hazel Dell News: Miss Carrie Boucher came home last Tuesday from Wheaton after a two months stay with her sister, Mrs. J. A. Saltz.

Washburn Prairie News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Moulton Varner, Dec. 29th, a son.

Washburn Prairie News: Henry Weston went to Beaver, Ark., Sunday to see his mother who is making her home with her son, John Weston.

Washburn Prairie News: Dr. John Sparkman of Springdale and John Miller of Pea Ridge visited the former's father, Judge M. B. Sparkman, Saturday night.

High Point News: Dave Perkins happened to a very serious accident while hauling wood one of the front wheels of his wagon came off and threw him off the wagon and broke three of his ribs. We sympathize with Mr. Perkins in his affliction and hope he will soon recover.

Shell Knob News: Will Edmondson and Bessie James were married last Tuesday at the bride's home, Wm. Ledgerwood officiating.

Shell Knob News: B. F. Pierce who died at his home last Friday night on the Shell Knob and Cassville road was prosecutor of the Taylor brothers who murdered the Meeks family in Sullivan County several years ago.

Shell Knob News: W. P. Brazel has found one of his yearlings but Pleas Cooper has never heard from his mare that disappeared from the range last October.

Seligman News: Lional Hulsey and Cleo Northcutt were quietly married by Squire Hulsey, father of the groom, at B. P. Northcutt's home, father of the bride. [Click here to read]

Seligman News: Elmer Roller has his house about completed and Mr. Cox is soon to move onto the Lighfoot place south of town and Mr. Emerson is soon to move to Exeter.

Rock Springs News: C. N. Still and wife have returned after a visit in Oklahoma.

Oak Ridge News: Will Johnson who lives in Southeast Missouri has been visiting his brothers, Andrew and John Johnson, the past ten days returned to his home Monday.

Oak Ridge News: Dave Mills and family visited Mrs. Mills' mother of Hungry Hollow, Mrs. Griffith. She is quite sick with lagrippe.

Shady Grove News: Duff Adams and wife of Tulsa, Okla., came in last Saturday to help wait on his father who is sick.

Cross Hollows News: The candy breaking at Roscoe Twilligear's Saturday night was well attended. All report a nice time.

Washburn News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Lennie Thomas, a daughter, Jan 6, 1916.

Washburn News: Oscar Turner has a very sick child with membranous croup. It is not expected to live.

Washburn News: Mrs. H. Pennington and little daughter, Dorothy, of Ardmore, Okla., came Monday to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Frost.

Washburn News: Mrs. Charles Browning and little daughter, Beulah, of Rogers, Ark., spent Sunday and Monday at the home of B. F. Windes. She was accompanied by Mrs. K. A. Frost who visited at J. A. Frost's.

Forest Grove News: Frank Braught was sent to Nevada for treatment. He has been ailing for a few years past.

Forest Grove News: Grandpa Braught is able to be up after about three weeks sickness. He is about 81 years old.

Forest Grove News: J. W. Ennes and daughter, Alice were at Butterfield Friday night at John Ennes'. He has a very sick child.

Forest Grove News: Mrs. Bidnerim of Kansas was called tot he last sickness and death of her mother, Mrs. Ennes, last week.

Corinth News: Born to Vance Owens and wife, Thursday of last week, a fine girl. Mother and babe doing nicely.

B. F. Pierce who for the past fifteen years has lived east of Mineral Springs on the Cassville and Shell Knob road, died Saturday, January 8, following a brief illness. He was between 75 and 80 years old and until a very short time ago had been in fair health. [Click here to read]

Mrs. Nancy Ennis, wife of Wm. Ennes, died at their home near Mineral Springs on Saturday morning, January 7th, 1916 of lagrippe and other complications due to a paralytic stoke with which she had been enfeebled for several years past. [Click here to read]

Purdy News: Jerry Lewis and wife are the proud parents of a girl baby, born Jan. 16th.

Purdy News: Z. Harlin who has been visiting in Iowa, Nebraska and Colorado for some time is home again.

Purdy News: S. A. Alderson and wife and son of Panoia, Colo., are visiting relatives and friends in and near Purdy this week. Mr. Alderson made his home in Barry County up to about twenty years ago when he moved to his present home.

Washburn News: The two year old child of Mr. and Mrs. Ryan died here Saturday morning of membranous croup. The remains were taken to Exeter for burial.

Washburn News: The artificial foot of Miss Maye Howard came Thursday and is a perfect fit. We hope to see her on our streets again soon.

Washburn News: Charles Browning of Rogers, Ark., is visiting at the home of his uncle, B. F. Windes.

Mano News: Mrs. D. S. Goutney who has pneumonia fever is reported better at this writing.

Mano News: Elzie Holman of Golden spent Sunday night and Monday with his uncle, H. P. Holman, who has been quite sick with lagrippe. Mr. Holman is some better at this writing.

Willow Brock News: We learn that John Doty of Monett will move on Uncle George Henson's place soon.

Willow Brook News: J. E. Week will move away in a short time.

Willow Brook News: Otto Walker and wife visited at the latter's parents, Frank Fare and wife, Saturday.

Butterfield News: We were indeed sorry to hear of the death of Pearly Black. Ye Scribe seldom went to Cassville without stepping into his place of business and we were always greeted with a smile and a pleasant word.

Liberty News: Miss Maye Greenway was badly burned Friday morning by her dress catching on fire while removing ashes from the stove. Her mother's hands were also burned while trying to extinguish the flames.

Liberty News: Mrs. Clarence Richardson who is very ill, is reported a little better. She is ill with her eye, caused by an injury while picking berries last summer.

Liberty News: Miss Leona Stewart of Joplin is visiting with her grandmother, Mrs. S. S. Ruddick of Leann.

Seligman News: Jason Whitener fell and sprained his wrist last week while trying to catch a runaway team.

Seligman News: Mrs. J. S. Foster has returned after a few days visit with her son, Clyde.

The Kingdom News: John Zillox, Jr., has Mr. Baird's house completed. [Zilliox?]

Mineral Springs News: Little Laura Williams has had the chickenpox, but is well now.

Washburn Prairie News: Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Smith went to Eagle Rock last Tuesday on account of the serious illness of Mrs. Cynthia Smith. She died while they were there. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of their many friends.

Washburn Prairie News: Mrs. Ola Lowe has spent the past week with her sister, Mrs. Stella Farewell and family of Eagle Rock.

Cross Hollows: Rosy Terrell fell Tuesday morning an broke her ankle. This is the second time she has happened to such an accident. She getting along as well as could be expected.

Bethel News: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Avondet are the parents of a new daughter.

Bethel News: Miss Kate Mooney who is teaching our school visited homefolks at Monett from Friday to Monday

Bethel News: Miss Alta Kennedy visited her sister, Mrs. Bessie Poynor, from Monday to Saturday of last week.

Bethel News: Mr. and Mrs. Guy Carr are the parents of a new daughter.

Shell Knob News: Mrs. Alice Vanvacter of Audrain County left last Tuesday for home after spending about three weeks visiting her father, C. B. Carr.

Personal and Local News: John Taylor has moved from his farm east of town to the property he bought from Sam Gilmore.

Personal and Local News: The little babe of Joe Lowe and wife which died of bronchial pneumonia at Monett was brought to this place Sunday and funeral services were conducted by Rev. Spurlin at the Baptist Church and the remains laid to rest in the Russell Cemetery. The bereaved have our sympathy.

Personal and Local News: W. J. Brock, one of the most successful and prominent teachers of this county, and one of the oldest in the service and yet still in his prime, closed another successful term at the Brock school last Friday.

Personal and Local News: Mr. and Mrs. John Williams of near Crane visited Mr. Williams' brother, C. W. Williams, and wife and Mr. Williams attended the Galloway sale of thoroughbred cattle Saturday.

Personal and Local News: The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Rhea has pneumonia.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Ebbie Glass of Wyandotte, Okla., who has been visiting her brother, A. C. Catron, of near Cassville returned to her home Friday.

Personal and Local News: W. J. Wilson of Quinton, Okla., arrived Friday for a visit with is mother, Mrs. S. J. Lewis of Cross Hollows an with his uncle. B. R. Truhite of McDonald township. Mr. Wilson had not been her for thirty years and noted a great many changes in the country and in Cassville.

Personal and Local News: Ellen Wooten, the ten year old daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. M. Wooten, is suffering from severe burns received Tuesday evening when she caused a tea kettle of boiling water to be overturned, the hot water splashing over her. The little girl was removing the kettle of water from the stove when she was instructed by her mother to replace it. In obeying she set the vessel too near the edge of the stove and as she released her hold the kettle toppled over. One limb was scaled from the knee down to the foot and a portion of the flesh was removed with the clothing. She will be confined to her home for several weeks. Southwest Journal.

Personal and Local News: Ab Mulky died at his home, just north of Monett, on Wednesday of last week of tuberculosis.

Personal and Local News: Rev. J. T. Brattin, James Talbert and E. N. Meador attended the funeral of J. H. Baird at Stotts City, Saturday.

Personal and Local News: Leonard McCandless south of town and the Phillips family west of town are under quarantine on account of small pox. Since quarantine regulations were established as soon as it became know there appears to be no danger of it spreading. The case at Butterfield is doing well and prompt quarantine kept it from spreading there.

Personal and Local News: The friends of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lowe will regret to hear that their infant child died last week at Monett where they had only lately moved.

Personal and Local News: All of the children of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hawk were at home together Sunday. There are ten children, six sons and four daughter. All live in this locality except, Mrs. Frank Scott of Oklahoma and Mrs. W. J. Dow of Washington D. C.

Personal and Local News: James Edmondson of Seneca attended the funeral of his brother-in-law, Pearly Black, Tuesday.

Personal and Local News: Enoch Trollinger of Wagoner, Okla., who has been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Trolinger, had lagrippe last week.

Personal and Local News: Otto Hamilton and W. R. Adcock of Washburn attended the funeral of Pearly Black here Tuesday.

Personal and Local News: The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Rhea who has had pneumonia, has recovered.

Personal and Local News: James Edmondson who was called here the first of last week by the death of his brother-in-law, Pearly Black, returned to his home near Seneca Saturday.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. B. P. Northcutt of Seligman is attending her mother, Mrs. Stapleton, south of town who is quite sick. Mrs. Stapleton is very old which makes her children and friends uneasy about her recovery.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. Dora Talbert went to Tulsa, Okla., Saturday to visit her daughter, Mrs. Robert Morris.

Personal and Local News: Mrs. T. D. Pitts of Monett has been attending her father, T. J. McClure of the Vanzandt locality, during his serious illness.

Personal and Local News: Roy Backus of Harrison, Ark., spent Wednesday night in this city with his cousin, F. W. Bennington. Mr. Backus was on his way to Coffeyville, Kan., where he intends to make his home.

Personal and Local News: Fred Marbut closed a successful 5 1/2 months term of school Wednesday of last week at Oak Ridge. No special exercises were held on the the last day as a Christmas program had been given. 76 pupils were enrolled during the term and the patrons expressed themselves as having been well pleased with the school.

Personal and Local News: born to Mr. and Mrs. Horace Stacy, January 21, a son.

Personal and Local News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. John Taylor, northwest of town, January 20, a daughter.

Personal and Local News: John Baird of Winfield, Kan., is visiting his relatives and old friends about Cassville. He is a brother of Chas. Baird of Stotts City and N. G. and J. H. Baird, deceased. Mr. Baird had not been here for about 18 years. He moved away 34 years ago, selling his farm to Wesley Meador. C. W. Eden now own the place, south of Cassville.

Personal and Local News: Miss Nannie McCary died Tuesday at her home southwest of Cassville at the old McCary homestead. She was a sister, of B. F., Thos., Asbury, Joe and John McCary. The funeral is to be held Thursday at the home, conducted by Rev. E. W. Love.

Personal and Local News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reed, January 19, a son.

Personal and Local News: David Talbert and M. B. Babb, rural letter carriers on routes 1 and 2 out of this city, could go over only a part of their routes Friday on account of the high water.

Personal and Local News: Enoch Trolinger and sister, Miss Nova, and Mrs. James Trolinger were called to Exeter Sunday by the death of their cousin, Max Kemper.

Personal and Local News: W. R. Hutchens of Pineyville, Ill., is visiting his sister, Mrs. J. J. Edens, Mr. Hutchens has never been here before. It had been 41 years since he had seen his brother-in-law, J. J. Edens.

Personal and Local News: Miss Gilla Short of Marionville is visiting her daughter, Miss Grace, and other relatives in this city.

McDowell News: Friends and neighbors gave Mr. Leakey and wife a surprise party Saturday night. Music was furnished by the string band and some beautiful songs were sung by Mrs. Ed Lockhart, then came the treat of cake and ladies had prepared for the occasion, which made it a most delightful evening, wishing Mr. and Mrs. Leakey many more happy birthdays. A speech was give by Will Marbut and one by Mrs. Wainright.

Mineral Springs News: Uncle Will Ennes died at his home Jan 21, about 4 o'clock a. m. Funeral services were conducted at the church Saturday afternoon, after which the body of Uncle Will was laid beside his wife who preceded him tot he grave just thirteen days. The bereft child have our warm sympathy.

Mineral Springs: Will and Anna Baker visited their brother, Evert, Saturday night.

Mineral Springs News: John Ennes of Purdy attended the Wm. Ennis funeral Saturday and visited his father, Rev. Ennes, Saturday night. [Both Ennis and Ennes spellings used.]

Forest Grove News: We were sorry to learn of the death of Uncle John Kerr of Whitton, Ark. He once lived in Barry County.

New Salem News: John Watson of Central, Kan., is spending a few days with his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Watson.

Shady Grove News: Miss Zetta Ryan who has been staying with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Bayless, went to Exeter Sunday to see her cousin buried and then went home with her grandmother Ryan.

Arnhart News: Melven Henson will soon have a grist mill going at his place.

Arnhart News: Friday, January 21, was the last day of our school. The patrons favored their teachers, Floyd Ray and Miss Hazel Gravett, and the pupils with a bountiful dinner. Afternoon a good program was rendered by pupils and teachers which was very much enjoyed by all present.

Rock Creek News: Jim Holman of Lawrence County is visiting his father, H. P. Holman, of this place.

Washburn News: Elijah Shrum was called to Oronogo Saturday on account of the death of his son.

Washburn News: O. D. Davis attended the funeral of is brother-in-law, Wm. Ennis, near Cassville Saturday.

Washburn News: J. S. Amphlett was called Wednesday to the bedside of his brother, Geo. Amphlett, of Neodesha, Kan. He is very low with stomach trouble and general debility.

Washburn News: Quite a number of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Weathers friends gathered at their home Saturday with well filled baskets and spread a nice dinner in honor of their 36th wedding anniversary. It was quite a surprise to them, but enjoyed by all present.

Cross Hollows News: Walter Land of Kansas City visited his brother, A. J. Land, and family Tuesday and Tuesday night. He is working for the Liggett Stuart Live stock Co., of Kansas City.
