Milwaukee News: Miss Nora Williams of this place was thrown from a buggy Saturday night and hurt very badly. She was taken to the home of J. A. Baker and Dr. Rawhouser was called. She was unconscious all night and is till very sick at this writing.

New Salem News: Elbert Scroggins and family and Will Brewer and family went to Roaring River fishing Sunday.

New Salem News: Frank Roller and wife of Seligman; Mrs. Nora Vaughn and children of Texas and Sill Roller and family visited at Aunt Elizabeth Roller's Sunday evening.

New Salem News: Miss Zettie McClure and brother, Donald of Seligman visited at T. L. Trimble's Sunday.

Pleasant Ridge News: Mrs. Elva Ellis went to Carthage Monday to help her brother, Jake McClellan, tend to a dairy farm.

Cross Hollows News: Noah Widders has moved to A. J. Turner's place.

Rock Creek News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Timmon, August 20th a son.

Purdy News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Joe W. Robinson, August 23rd, a ten pound boy.

Purdy News: Prof. J. Turner Horner and wife and daughter, Miss Eva, were here last week. The Professor will teach this year at Tulsa, Okla., and Miss Eva at West Plains, Mo. Herald.

Butterfield News: The protracted meeting closed here Sunday night with twenty-five new converts.

Wayne News: Little Morris Black of Washburn is spending a few days with is grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Erwin at Wayne.

Wayne News: Wayne will soon have a new post office.

Sunnyside News: Mrs. Walden will soon leave for a visit with her daughter in Kansas City.

Sunnyside News: Mrs. Gertie Morgan of Joplin is visiting her parents, U. L. Barnes.

Sunnyside News: Our school is progressing nicely with Mr. Cornell as teacher.

Big Spring News: Hiram Still attended the 5th Sunday meeting at Washburn Prairie Friday and Saturday.

Big Springs News: Miss Rebecca Roller of Osbourne, Ark., is visiting her sister, Mrs. Jack Tillman, this week.

Big Springs News: Mrs. Walter Barcus of Cassville is visiting her mother, Mrs. Jesse Arnhart, at present.

Washburn Prairie News: Mrs. Vanie Jayne is visiting her son, Ollin, in St. Louis.

Washburn Prairie News: Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ruppert of Wheaton spent Saturday night with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Longley.

Washburn Prairie News: Mrs. K. F. Howell and little daughter, Wilma, returned to their home at Okmulgee, Okla., Monday after a three weeks visit with her mother, Mrs.. H. J. Hopkins.

Forest Grove News: Miss Lucille Hill entered school at Cassville Monday.

Rocky Comfort News: As we go to finish our items, we learn of the death of Mrs. John Decker. Mrs. Decker died Friday night at her home in this city. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, after which the remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Seligman News: Neily Still north of town is going to make sorghum at his place this fall.

Suburban News: Tina Beeson and sister, Lulu, spent Sunday with Misses Ruby and Parlee Zilliox.

Suburban News: Our school is progressing nicely with an [a] large enrollment with Amos Baker as teacher.

Suburban News: Mr. Hugger of Enid, Okla., has purchased the Lem Moore 80 acres and will make it his future home.

An Aged Mother Dead:


Mrs. Jane Williams, older, than the state in which she had so long lived and probably the oldest citizen in Barry County, died Saturday at her home in Cassville, aged 95 years, 1 month and 19 days. [Click here to read]

The case of the state vs. Pete Heyburn came up Thursday in D. Wilkerson's court at Monett. Heyburn is charged with assault upon Miss Nellie Summers and was bound over to circuit court under $2,500 bond.

Audrey Sills and Dr. E. M. Box came down from Springfield Saturday night and spent Sunday with Audrey's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sills, at Roaring River Spring.

Miss Velma Turner of Peirce [Pierce] City arrived Friday to visit her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Horine.

Mrs. Ethel Terry of Monett has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Frost.

Mrs. E. H. Hodges of near town has been very ill from paralysis.

Mrs. Benton Robbins and daughter, Nadine, visited in Monett, Friday.

Chas. Thomas of Monett visited his daughter, Mrs. Merton Meador, of Washburn Prairie, the later part of last week.

Emory Smith, formerly a teacher in this county, has been appointed rural letter carrier out of Monett on route 4.

Miss Aggie Jones of Stephenville, Tex., is visiting her mother, Mrs. J. A. Williams, west of town.

Dave Dingler has traded for the W. A. Wilks property in the S. M. Mitchell addition. In the deal Mr. Wilks gets the Dingler car.

J. T. Moorman has purchased Glenn Pear's interest in the Roberson & Pearl livery barn.

Dr. D. L. Mitchell went to Huntington, Ark., Saturday night and spent Sunday with his aunt, Mrs. Martha Connell.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Ike Hutchens, Monday, Sept 1, a son.

J. C. Tucker of Golden, was in Cassville, Monday.

Pleas. Chapman came in Friday from Stroud, Okla.

Mrs. C. D. Manley and daughter, Miss Elaine went to Joplin last week to visit relatives.

Earl Smithson of Exeter was in Cassville Thursday. Earl began teaching at Stony Point Monday.

Attorney Illus M. Lee of Kansas City, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Lee, south of town, the latter part of last week. He and his children who have been spending the summer with their grandparents returned home Sunday night.

Mrs. Susie Speer came down from Aurora Wednesday night of last week to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Neeley.

Mrs. Florence Siler of Newton County visited her father, C. M. Lee, and family last week.

Mrs. Valeta Armstrong of Dodd City, Ark., is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Smith, and family.

W.W. Witt and family, Miss Velma Turner of Perice [Pierce] City and parties from Exeter are out on an outing and fishing trip on White river this week.

Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Allen went to Miller, Lawrence Co., Friday night to visit Mrs. Allen's parents.

Mrs. McDell of Willow Springs is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Hazel Gramich.

Mrs. Charity Sooter, wife of the late M. V. Sooter, is sick at the home of her nephew, Gant Stubblefield, east of town.

Mrs. K. F. Howell and little daughter, Wilma, returned to their home at Okmulgee, Okla., Monday after a three weeks visit with her mother, Mrs. H. J. Hopkins.

Rock Creek News: Ed Smallwood of Oklahoma came in one day last week for a short visit with his father, Rev. F. M. Smallwood.

Mineral Springs News: Mrs. B. F. Pierce died at her home Thursday evening about 8:30 p.m. Her body was laid to rest in the family cemetery near the home Friday evening. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

Washburn News: W. S. Woodruff and wife of Little Rock, Ark., are visiting at the home of he former's parents, A. Woodruff and wife.

Washburn News: Married Sept 2nd 1913 at the home of P. S. Myers, James Cargile and a widow lady from Clifton, Ark., James Park officiating.

Washburn News: Thomas Roller and Miss Imo Hickman were married Sunday at Exeter. Their many friends extend congratulations and wish them a long and happy married life.

Wayne News: Thomas Roller and Miss Imo Hickman of Washburn were quietly married Sunday, Sept 7, 1913, at Exeter. Miss Alice Haygood and Edgar Fairchild accompanied them. We wish them all the happiness in married life.

Wayne News: Miss Elvia Taylor is teaching the primary room at Washburn this year.

Pioneer News: The heat ran up high as 108 one day at Pioneer a few days ago.

Pioneer News: Jack Stewart and wife will go to house keeping next week in their home near Newtonia.

McDowell News: Mrs. Davis of Springfield has been visiting her sister, Mrs. Ira Hemphill, the past week.

McDowell News: Morris Dyer is visiting his sister, Mrs. Opal Smith in Monett, this week.

McDowell News: George Dyer and wife and little daughter visited their sister, Mrs. Claud Maxwell, Sunday.

McDowell News: Tira Dyer visited his sister, Mrs. Claud Maxwell, Thursday before returned to his home in Carthage.

McDowell News: The springs and wells are all drying up. Water is scarce. The men who have been threshing say it takes two men hauling water and then can't keep the machine running all the time.

Bellview News: Grandma Stribbling died Thursday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Kennedy at the Baptist Church Friday and burial made in the Dry Valley Cemetery. Grandma was 100 years and 3 months old.

Mt. Pleasant News: A. L. McCracken loaded his car and started to Texas Wednesday of last week where he will make his future home. We wish him success.

Rocky Comfort News: Mrs. R. R. Montgomery and daughters, Misses Carrie and Virgie, attended the funeral of Mrs. W. T. Bailey of Cassville.

Rocky Comfort News: Mrs. Crider, who has been sick, died Tuesday evening. The funeral services were held Wednesday after which the remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery. The writer extends sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Mrs. Mary Bayless of Claremore, Oklahoma, is at the bedside of her aunt, Mrs. Charity Sooter, at the home of Grant Stubblefield, east of town. Mrs. Sooter is in very poor health.

Loren Bayless and family of Leedy, Okla., are visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Bayless, of the Shady Grove locality.

John Englar, a farmer near Verona, age 55 years was burned to death, Wednesday of last week. [Click here to read]

Chas. Barnell of Urbana, Ohio, arrived Sunday to attend his brother, Thomas who is ill.

H. E. Spain of King [King's] Prairie visited his son, Sherman and wife, Sunday.

Mrs. Valetta Armstrong of Dodd City, Ark., returned home Monday night after an extended visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Smith.

Miss Lois Chandler left Wednesday for Mexico, MO., to attend Hardin College. She was accompanied to Mexico by her father, Dr. S.W. Chandler.

A man by the name of Goodrich of Monett was lodged in the county jail Thursday to serve a 30 day sentence on the charge of larceny.

Harry Stacy had the misfortune to get a bone broken in the wrist of his right arm last week while playing. He is doing nicely.

Dr. O. H. Thiele and daughter Miss Anita, spent Tuesday, at Ft. Smith, Ark.

James Trolinger left Friday night for Brunswick to take a course in the study of pharmacy.

Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Sims of Lexington returned home Thursday night after an extended visit with Mrs. Sims' brother, S.T. Sims, and family, south of town.

The four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Painter fell from a window. [Click here to read]

J.C. Ault became the owner of the George Thompson cafe the first of he week. In the deal, Mr. Thompson got the Ault automobile. Mr. Ault sold the cafe to Cyril Reese and Pearl Black.

S.W. Nettleship of near Purdy was a county seat visitor Monday.

Chas. Hutchens has moved his shoe shop to a new building built near his residence property.

Mrs. B. F. Peirce [Pierce] died Thursday evening of last week, age 80 years. [Click here to read]

Mrs. M. A. McClure who has been visiting in the vicinity of Cassville for several weeks leaves this week for Coffeyville, Kan., to visit her daughter, Mrs. Phillips. After an extended stay at Coffeyville she will go to Warrensburg to reside with her son, C. H. McClure.

Mrs. Mamie Martin of Carthage returned home Friday night from a visit with her sister, Mrs. Vede Murphy, of White River. Mrs. Murphy accompanied Mrs. Martin home for a short visit.

W. T. Landreth and family left Wednesday night of last week for Kentucky to reside. Mr. Landreth has been an employee of the Cassville Lime & Marble Co.

Shell Knob News: We understand that Willie Mikeman has bought a river farm of W. P. Brazle north of Viola.

Seligman News: R. G. Salyer of Cassville was at his farm, north of town, Saturday. He reports that the courthouse is ten rounds high and that they are progressing nicely with the work. This is [a report] reports that we can understand when we are told that anything so high or so long we can comprehended the size.

Big Springs News: R. G. Salyer and wife of Cassville took dinner with C. N. Still, Saturday.

Big Springs News: Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Collier, the parents of the bride the marriage of Miss Grace Collier to Mr. Fred Rainey was solemnized, Rev. P. H. Hodge officiating. The bride has grown to womanhood in this vicinity and is a young lady of many accomplishments. She is popular among her associates and enjoys the friendship of her acquaintance. The groom formerly lived in Arizona where he was engaged in business. He is an industrious young man and has a bright future ahead. within a short time the happy couple will leave for Arizona to reside. The best wishes of many friends go with them.

Suburban News: Wm Hooter who resides on the VanHook place northeast to Town will soon depart for Kansas.

Suburban News: Mrs. Mattie cooper has moved from Kansas City to our community.

Suburban News: Francis Vaughn, Albert Pilant and others repaired the Black school house Saturday.

Suburban News: John Noble who purchased the J. T. Cook farm from Mr. Wilson, will arrive in a few days from Colorado to make the Ozarks his future home. We welcome the family to this community.

Washburn Prairie News: Miss Gertie Raines returned home Sunday after an extended visit with relatives at Bosi D'Arc. She was accompanied by her cousin, Ela Paul.

Roy Cornell of near Seligman was in Cassville Saturday. He is teaching the Sunny Side school this year.

Mrs. R. L. Cares of Hugo, Okla., arrived Sunday to visit the families of D. A. and C. F. Cares of near Hailey.

Mrs. Harbour of Chelsea, Okla., returned home Saturday night after a visit with her father, Edward Clanton, of the Horner locality.

Gus Turner, south of town, left Wednesday night of last week for Northern Iowa, to visit his mother, who is in poor health.

Harve Truhite who is teaching school at Mt. Sinai spent Saturday and Sunday in Springfield.

Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Quakenbush and little child of Lincoln, Neb., are visiting he family of Geo. E. Ayers. Mrs. Quackenbush is a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ayers.

James H. Birkes, formerly station agent at Heavener, Okla., and Miss Ethel Briscoe of Exeter, were married in Kansas City, Tuesday, September 9. Immediately after their marriage they departed for their home at Louisiana, Mo., where Mr. Birkes has accepted a position with the Chicago & Alton railroad company. Mrs. Birkes is a daughter of Mrs. John Briscoe of Exeter and is a charming young lady with a host of friends.

Mrs. Helen Hobbs and daughter, Miss Dixie, went to Claremore, Okla., Saturday night to attend the funeral of Mrs. Bland Martin held there Sunday.

Mrs. O. H. Hudson was called to Monett last week on account of the illness of her mother. She returned Monday.

Judge R. H. Elam of Eagle Rock was in Cassville on business Monday.

Joe Thompson arrived last week from Warren, Ark., to visit his sister, Mrs. W. O. Colgston.

Miss Mary James of Carterville and sister, Mrs. Zettie Crumley of Monett, are visiting relatives and friends south of town.

Sam Gilmore who sold his mercantile business at Mano some time ago to Albert Easley has bought the Rev. E. B. Kelley property in the Mitchell addition and will move to Cassville this week.

Mrs. Sarah Smith of Chickasha, Okla., was visiting her nephew, James R. Taylor and family of Hailey the latter part of last week.

H. B. Brumbach, an attorney at Mount Vernon, died Monday. He was favorable known over this section of the state.

O. H. Hudson attended the funeral of Mrs. Willis W. Lehnhard at Carthage, Monday.

Cross Hollows News: We were sorry to hear of the death of Ulyses Webb. The bereaved have our sympathy.

New Salem News: We have some changes made among the residence in this vicinity. Joe Banks moved to Seligman, Monday, Elbert Scroggins has moved to the Bledsoe farm and Albert Burton to the Weeks farm.

Union Valley News: Our school has been closed on account of the smallpox being in the family of Pole Packwood.

Union Valley News: Mrs. J. M. Bridgmean and daughter, Arra, of Exeter, spent Sunday at Grant Edens.

Union Valley News: Fay Mullins is very sick with typhoid fever. Dr. Hoines? of Rocky Comfort is waiting on him.

Seligman News: Dr. H. K. Legg of Garfield, Ark., formerly of this place died Saturday night at his home in Garfield. Mr. Legg is Mrs. Foster's father. Mr. Legg was a good citizen and well liked by all and will be greatly missed by the people for he was always an active man and of much benefit to the community in which he lived.

Butterfield News: A daughter was born Thursday, Sept 18, to Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Sooter.

Butterfield News: Born to Golden Hankins and wife, Thursday, Sept 18, a girl.

Butterfield News: Fred Roblyer of Wayne visited his sister, Mrs. Oscar Holder, last week.

Butterfield News: Mrs. Lurke is visiting her sons, M. E. and M. L. Gentry, the past week.

Exeter News: Harry Smith, a fourteen year old grandson of Rev. and M. Smith, died at the home of his grandparents at this place, Thursday morning after a long illness of typhoid fever. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, Friday morning conducted by Revs. C. M. Smith and Chas. Vanzandt after which the body was laid to rest in the Maplewood Cemetery.

Bethel News: Henry Spain of near this place had three head of stock killed by lighting last Thursday evening.

Bethel News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Finis Marbut, Saturday, Sept. 20, a son.

Mt. Pleasant News: Oscar Holder had a sale last week and said he was thinking of going to California.

Eagle Rock News: Mr. Freezer who auctioned Henry Maloney's sale Saturday did well. We all wish him success as he has just started out on this line of business.

Eagle Rock News: Henry Maloney and family will start for Kansas soon to located. We wish him well and that they will be satisfied with their new location.

Eagle Rock News: R. W. Whittington is doing good business with his mill. It is running night and day.

High Point News: E. L. Lewellen contemplates moving to Purdy in the near future.

High Point News: We are sorry to hear of the death of U. G. Webb. He was a nice young man and loved by all who knew him. The bereaved ones have our sympathy.

The marriage of Mrs. Corneila Garett to Preston Matlock was solemnized by Squire Plattenburg Tuesday evening. They are both highly esteemed citizens of our town.

Mrs. J. A. Craig received word Wednesday to the effect that Mr. Chervel of St. Louis, father of Mrs. Walter woods, died Monday, Sept 22. His death was due to dropsy and consumption of diseases.

Mrs. McConnell of Kansas City, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. George Erwin, south of town returned home Tuesday night.

Audry Sills of Springfield, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sills, at Roaring River spring the first of the week.

S. O. Wear and son and daughter, Rogers and Miss Nadine, of St. Louis, W. E. McKinney of Kanowa, Okla., Mrs. Vrigie Claycomb of Guyman, Okla., W.W. Maiden and wife and children of West Plains and John M. Leckie of Springfield attended the funeral of Mrs. Emma Maiden Monday.

John Hutchens of St. Joseph spent Tuesday with this parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Hutchens.

Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Henbest of near town are the happy parents of a son born Thursday, September 18.

J. M. Stockton and son, Ade, H. O. Corman and Horitia Withers of Jenkins were in Cassville Saturday.

Jasper Throne and wife of Rocky Comfort visited last week with his brother-in-law, Henry Sherwood, and family last week.

C. E. Hickman of Bird City, Cheyenne County, Kan., was here last week in interest of his farm, south of town, where Zeke Thomas resides.

Miss Dixie Pendergraft, daughter of Mrs. G. W. Pendergraft, has gone to Texas, where she has a good position in the schools of that state.

W. H. Cole of Liberty township was in Cassville Monday. He stated [that] he lost a valuable mare last week from some unknown ailments.

Asbury McCary returned last week from Oklahoma and is visiting his daughter, Mrs. E. S. Mitchell, south of town.

Mrs. Zoe Coit? of Kansas City who has been visiting her aunt, Mrs. I. P. Bowman returned home Monday night.

Aaron Long of Galena, Kan., was in Cassville Wednesday on his way home from a week's stay to his farm on Trent Creek Southwest of Washburn.

Mrs. Mary Duton of Woodward, Okla., returned home Tuesday night, after a visit with her brother, I. P. Bowman. [Dutton?]

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Woods of St. Louis, Sunday, Sept. 21, a son. Walter is a son of Mrs. J. A. Craig of this city.

A son was born Sunday, Sept 21, to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Talbert to this city.

J. H. Thomas went to Springfield Sunday. Mrs. Thomas accompanied him as far as Marionville and visited her sister, Mrs. Short, until Monday.
