Thomas Arnold, Elsey Sullivan, Leonard Bayless, Jesse Turner, Fred Johnson, Harris Hudson and Herman VanHook were fined in the mayor's court this week for being intoxicated on the streets of the city and using abusive language to the city marshal. We hope this will never occur again. As is always the case such affairs cause humiliation upon the parties and heart aches to their families. From a mother of one of the above implicated, we've received a special requested by letter not to make mention of the affair. To hold such news from the community would destroy the highest duty of the press to give the news impartially to the community, which it serves. We believe we voice the sentiment of the community in saying such disturbances should no longer be tolerated.

To the Public

I arrived in Barry County, Missouri, April 22, 1879 at ten o'clock a.m. and have made Barry County my home ever since. I have never been in jail, dunk or paid a fine. All this time I have mixing with the public in many ways, have made many transactions, some I have skinned, others have skinned me, but I have never been in debt to a single cent and find the cash system to be the best for the public as well as the the individual. I am to soon appear before the people of Barry County, once more, this time behind the counter of one of the best little grocery stores in the county. This store will be located in the east room of Fawver's brick building in the town of Seligman. The motto of this store will be STRICTLY CASH. I invited all my friends and every body else to come in and hand me their cash. Yours truly. W. C. Fawver.
