Washburn News: Geo. Bryan west of town, will have a sale Saturday, and leave for St. Joe, their future home.

Washburn News: Mrs. L. J. Paul and bother, Mrs. Crothers, of Tawneytown, Ark., and Springdale were here Saturday.

Washburn News: Those who attended the Odd fellows anniversary at Monett were Misses Estella Pease, Nell Journey, Florence Stephens, Mrs. Cora Journey and Messrs Creed Fulton, Sterling Hopkins, C. Jaynes, Wm. Journey, G. L. Journey, Levi Crim, Joe Wallen, G. C. Fulton. All reported a fine time.

Mt. Grove News: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Hobbs, April 24, a daughter.

Sunnyside News: Miss Gertie Anderson visited her sister, Mrs. Lena Roller, from Saturday until Sunday.

Pleasant Ridge News: Miss Edna Montgomery visited her grandmother, Mrs. Thomas, Saturday night.

Pleasant Ridge News: John Pennell went to Webb City Saturday morning to see his cousin, Oliver Pennell, who is very sick. He returned home Sunday afternoon.

Shady Grove News: Mrs. Jane Freeze visited her daughter, Mrs. Albert Clark Sunday afternoon.

Shady Grove News: Mrs. Mae Witt of Joplin came up Sunday night to see her brother Albert Clark and returned Monday night.

Shady Grove News: Mrs. Josie Haskins of Peirce [Pierce] City and Mrs. Dora Sapp of Purdy spent last Saturday with Mrs. Gertie House and family.

Cedar Bluff News: Jasper Catron has sold his farm to A. King and has bought a farm up near Miller in Lawrence Co.

Mineral Springs News: Doe Henbest is reported very sick at this writing, threatened with typhoid fever.

Mineral Springs News: Will Moore and wife also his sister, Ethel, spent Sunday with Mrs. Robert Brandon and family.

Wheeler News: Mr. Fridel of near Rogers, Ark., was visiting his mother-in-law, Mrs. Dave McCubbin, Sunday.

Flat Creek News: The little son of Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Foster has the lagrippe but is said to be some better, at this writing.

Milwaukee News: Mr. Lawrence of Roaring River was buried at Corinth Cemetery Friday. Bro. Brattin preached the funeral. We sympathize with the wife and little children. They need help as he was the support to care for and make a living for them. The friends of this place made a donation Sunday for them. May God watch over and care for them through this sad life.

Bellview News: Tom Fletcher was visiting his daughter at Cape Fair, Stone County, Saturday and Sunday.

Bellview News: George Allen writes from Washington that he and wife and Arthur Allen and family have had the smallpox. The latter has bought a farm near W. R. Baillie.

John Gowand of Monett was released from the county jail Friday after serving a sixty days sentence on the charge of adultery.

J. E. Lamb has moved his family from Purdy to Cassville. Mr. Lamb has rented the J.C. Barcus property in the south part of town.

Dr. and Mrs. R. M. Barrett of Black Oak, Ark., arrived Thursday for a visit with the latter's sister, Mrs. Emmett Freeze and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clay Stubblefield.

Elsey Crane on Gunter is among the number of young men from Barry County in attendance at the Springfield normal school this spring.

C.A. Prentice of near Golden was in Cassville the first of the week. His daughter, Miss Nellie, who has been attending the Cassville High School accompanied him home.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Johnson are the happy parents of a son, born Monday, April 28.

Word has come to Cassville that Margaret, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Archibald, formerly of Cassville but who now resides at West Liberty, Ky., is dangerously ill. The news expressed little hope of the child's recovery.

William H. Lawrence of Roaring River died Thursday morning of last week after a short illness of pneumonia fever. Mr. Lawrence had been a resident of this county only a short time, having resided in the Pasley locality and later on the Critchfield farm on Roaring River. He was born in Walker County, Georgia, May 17, 1871. His parents dying when a youth he was reared as an orphan boy. In 1892, he was married to Mary Whisan who lived only a short time. Some years later he was married to Phillip Preston whom he is survived with three children. Funeral services were conducted Friday by Rev. J. T. Brattin at the Corinth Church and his body was laid to rest in the Corinth Cemetery.

Mrs. S. E. Wallen returned to Vinita, Okla., Friday after a visit with parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Brown, and brother, A. L. Brown and family.

Obituary: Mrs. S.F. Bryson of Decatur, Ark., departed this life Friday morning at 5 o'clock, April 18, 1913. She was born in Franklin County, Ill., Dec 23, 1863 and was untied in marriage to S. F. Bryson in 1884.To this union were born nine children, seven living and two dead. She became a member of the Christian Church in 1897 at Maple Grove in Barry County, MO, and lived a true Christian life ever since. She was buried the Decatur Cemetery on Saturday, April 19. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Collins of that place.

The people of Decatur were very kind to the family and willingly gave their assistance during the sickness and death of Mrs. Bryson. The people of this community were sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Bryson. She had lived here Ash Township, for over 20 years, and for the last five years had lived at Pea Ridge and Decatur, Ark. A friend.

Union Valley News: Mrs. Napp Burks of Ridgely died Saturday night, Mary 3rd. The remains were laid to rest at Concord Sunday afternoon.

Cross Hollows News: Mrs. Anna Thomas of Chicago, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Denton, has returned home.

Cross Hollows News: A. J. Land and family visited their son, Ernest of Happy Hollow, Sunday.

McDowell News: B. Niel's [Neil's?] father and mother, brother and family from Crane visited him and Lafayette Hemphill last week.

Shoal Creek News: Born to Harve Higg [Higgs] and wife, May 2, a fine boy.

Shoal Creek News: We were sorry to hear the death of Mrs. Martha Birks of Ridgley. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all.

Washburn News: Carl Stark and wife of Grant City, Ill, was called Sunday to the bedside of the former's mother, Mrs. J. M. Stark, who is dangerously ill.

Washburn Prairie News: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Laughlin of Roller visited with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Varner, Wednesday night and Thursday of last week.

Mayflower News: Dock Eggleston, who lived near Big Springs, Greasy Creek was kicked by a horse in the breast and hurt very bad Saturday.

Mayflower News: Born to W. I. Vanzandt and wife, a daughter, April 30.

Mayflower News: J. A. Vanzandt departed this life, Thursday morning, April 24, 1913 at his home in Ash Township. He was born at the same place in 1864 and lived all his live [life] on the old home farm. He was one of the wealthiest farmers in Ash Township and was a successful farmer and stock grower. He was united in marriage to Frances Weathers about 20 years ago. To this union were born 8 children. He leaves a wife and 6 children and other relatives and friends to mourn his death. He was buried at the Hickman Cemetery near Washburn, Friday, April 25th. [Van Zandt]

Sunny Side News: Mrs. John Reed got two of her fingers on the right hand badly cut by opening a can of fruit.

Sunny Side News: Ruth and Bryan Wardlow of Washburn are visiting their grandparents, Mike Wardlow's.

Forest Grove News: Grandma Manning who has been vesting at John Metcalf's has returned home.

New Salem News: We wish to correct an error in our items two weeks ago. Robt. Breeding has not traded his farm for a stock of goods in Joplin, as was stated in our items two weeks ago. This was a false report.

New Salem News: Robt. Roller, wife and sons, Ray and Jay, dined at Floyd Roller's Sunday.

Butterfield News: Bill Thompson of Monett was visiting his daughter, Mrs. Henry Gray, Sunday.

Butterfield News: Mrs. Gigs came in from Arkansas Sunday to see her daughter, Mrs. Walter Ray, who is ill.

Suburban News: Born to Dave Beck and wife, Sunday, May 4th, a son. Mother and babe are doing nicely.

Mrs. J. J. Edens and daughter, Miss Zettie, have returned from a visit with relatives in Joplin.

Tiden Weddington of Golden visited his sister, Mrs. J. E. Lowder, Sunday.

Clyde Lillard of Oklahoma is visiting is mother, Mrs. Dave Talbert, east of town.

The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Gourley died Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Will Montgomery went to Willow Springs Friday, where they expect to reside.

John Blankenship of Corsicana visited his son, Dr. E. L. Blankenship, Thursday and Friday.

Cowgill C. Blair of Carthage took the editorial and news department of the Monett Star Thursday. Mr. Blair has been connected with the newspaper business at Joplin and Carthage and comes in Monett well prepared to assume his new duties.

Gov. Major has signed the bill granting pensions to Confederate veterans. The appropriation for this purpose was thirty thousand dollars.

Mrs. Mary E. Cross arrived Friday from Oklahoma City for a two week's visit with the family of R. R. Fisher.

Sam Gilmore, merchant at Mano, was in the county seat, Thursday.

Mrs. I. P. Bowman, who has been ill from typhoid fever, is able to be out.

Ernest Ferguson of Butterfield, closed a spring term of school at Quaker Friday.

Saturday, May 10, is County Graduation day for Newton County. There are near 200 pupils completing the eighth grade course of study in that county.

Washburn Prairie News: The spirit of Mrs. Catherine Varner, wife of W. M. Varner, passed peaceably away at her home on Washburn Prairie Thursday morning at the early hour of 1:20 o'clock. [Click here to read]

Seligman News: Mrs. Oscar Wieford died Thursday night. Funeral services were conducted at the Union Church, Saturday evening and remains laid to rest in Seligman Cemetery. She leaves a husband and six children besides other close relatives to mourn her death. She was raised in Seligman and this life she led would a pattern for any one to follow.

Seligman News: About forty of our citizens attended the funeral of A. B. Wilson of Garfield, Ark. Over five hundred people were present. The services were conducted by the Masonic Lodge of Garfield assisted by the Rogers Lodge. The lodge work was very impressive and carried out in fine shape.

Kings Prairie News: Mrs. T. H. Williams is visiting her daughter Mrs. Edward Walton.

Washburn News: J. A. Pease left Wednesday of last week for an extended visit with relatives and friends in Kansas and Nebraska. He will visit his daughter, Mrs. E. A. Lund and family on this trip.

Rocky Comfort News: Mrs. I. A. Long, who is in the Kansas City hospital for treatment is slowly improving at present.

Wheaton News: Miss Eva Horner of Purdy has been elected head of the English Department of the West Plains High School at a salary of $75. per month for nine months, beginning the first Monday in next September.Journal

Independence News: Junia and Teddy Baldwin of Seligman visited their uncle, N. Baldwin of Seligman, Saturday and Sunday.

Forest Grove News: John Metcalf and wife are rejoicing over the arrival of a new son.

Hailey News: Mrs. Minnie Johnson of Joplin has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Foster, this week. She retuned home Saturday.

Seligman News: J. A. McCollum and family of Pawnee, Okla., are visiting friends and relatives in this part of the country. McCollum is another one of Barry County's boys who have made good. He took the law course at Missouri University and is now one of he most promising young lawyers of Oklahoma with a good substantial line of business.

Shell Knob News: Elmer Mikeman got as far as Kansas on his way to Idaho but his hat blew off and he had to come back after it.

Mt. Grove News: Bynum Neil has his new barn almost completed.

Antioch News: W. L. Freeze of Monett was a visitor in this neighborhood last week.

Rock Springs News: Dock Eggleston is reported doing very well from a kick he received from his mare a short time ago.

Butterfield News: Sunday, May, the little child of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Holder was claimed by death, age 10 months and 8 days. Her death came after a few days illness of bronchitis. Interment was made at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Monday afternoon.

Butterfield News: P.A. Howerton of Monett attended the funeral services of his little niece Monday.

Bethel News: Rev. Pinkey Henderson of Greensburg, Kan., is visiting his mother and other relatives around here this week.

Oak Ridge News: Mrs. Vera Pepple of Avanah, Tex., visited her uncle, W. S. Hankins last week on her way to Illinois. She is the daughter of Marshall Hankins of Avanah, Tex.

Flat Creek News: Hiram Potter visited Sunday and Sunday night with his aunt, Mrs. Add Austin of near Jenkins.

Suburban News: Mrs. Joshua Clayton died at her home Friday afternoon, May 17th, two miles east of Cassville of kidney trouble. She leaves a husband, two daughters and one son besides five grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her death. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Kennedy after which the remains were laid to rest in the Pilant Cemetery. We extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved ones.

Suburban News: Jerry Ross and family went down near Mano Friday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Ross' father. they returned home Saturday afternoon.

Gunter News: Miss Lola Lewis and brother, John, Miss Carrie Nelson and brother, Perse, and Miss Sallie Jordan visited with Ira and Montie Gulick Sunday.

Rock Springs News: John Bullington of Beaver, Ark., was at J. A. Roller's a few days ago ordering repairs for his engine. He intends starting to drilling soon near Measles Prairie. He has a good rig.

Shell Knob News: J. D. Leach who has been in Louisiana for several years is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Leach.

Shell Knob News: Tommy Painter said he got all the strawberries he could eat while in the field at Mr. Pryor's. He said he ate four. They must have been large ones.

Washburn News: Mrs. Jim Cargile west of town died Saturday and was buried Sunday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. P. H. Hodge.

Washburn News: Mrs. Lizzie Daugherty, wife of the late Connell Daugherty, of Atlanta, GA, visited Mrs. Jon. Varner, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Stark and other relatives here last week.

A son arrived Tuesday, May 10, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hopkins on Washburn Prairie.

J. W. Garret, W. D. Carroll, H. A. Volsburg, J. C. Bradley and George Skelton of Eagle Rock were in Cassville Monday. They report that the first alfalfa crop had been cut in that locality and the crop was an excellent one.

Mano News: A. J. Stever, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jane Shrum, May 30, aged 84 years, one month, and 8 days. He leaves 8 children, a host of grand-children and several great grand children to mourn his death. The bereaved have the sympathy of the entire community.

Cross Hollows: Robert Patton and family of near Jenkins visited W. S. Lester, Saturday night, attended church at Victory and took dinner with L. W. Patton returning home Sunday.

Pleasant Ridge News: Rev. Cotrell preached at Hickory Grove Sunday morning. After church, they went to little flat where he baptized Jeff Cook and wife.

Rock Springs News: Curtis Edens of Garfield, Ark., was at the bedside of his mother, Mrs. Melinda Edens a few days last week.

Rock Springs News: James A. Roller, administrator of the estate of Rebecca and Martha Stephenson, deceased has contacted for a monument to be place at their graves. The Adams Marble Co. of Cassville will do the work.

Rock Springs News: C. H. Harvey marked the Ozark Trail from Washburn by way of the old wire road down Sugar Creek to Elkhorn Tavern last Friday. This is the most practicable route that could have been marked. [Coin Harvey]

Seligman News: Mrs. F. M. Horn of this place died Sunday morning. Mr. Horn's folks are among the oldest residents of this place and are well known. In the death of Mrs. Horn, Seligman has lost a lady of good influence. She leaves children and a husband to mourn her loss.

Seligman News: Albert Robertson and Elma Scroggins were married by Squire Hulsey the latter part of the week. They are well known young folks and have a bright future before them. Their friend all wish them success and happiness.

Ash No. 2 News: Miss Estella Pease and Sam Woodruff passed through our vicinity last week on a fishing trip.

Ash No. 2 News: Mrs. Sarah Hannah, widow of Rev. A. W. Hannah, formerly of Washburn, but who now resides at Siloam Springs, Ark., happened to the misfortune to fall and break her right lib just below the hip. Physicians say she is getting along fine for one of her age. She will be 85 years of age the twenty-eight of November.

Ash No. 2 News: Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hopkins and Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Hutchison motored to the Washburn Prairie Cemetery, decoration day in Mr. Hopkins auto.

Washburn News: Mrs. Minnie Ells of Aurora came Thursday for decoration and stayed over Sunday visiting her many friends.

Rock Springs News: Born to Arthur Roller and wife, June 3rd, a son.

Rock Springs News: Mrs. Vesta Still, wife of John Still, took very sick lat Saturday, while visiting at her sister's Mrs. Elmer Eden. She is better at this writing.

Rock Springs News: Mrs. J. M. Fine was taken very sick last Sunday with stomach and kidney trouble. It was thought for a while she would not recover but at this writing she is much better and it is thought she will recover.

Rock Springs News: Mrs. Wm. Hodge died the 9th very suddenly with stomach trouble and flux. She was not thought to be so sick but she ate something that did not agree with her and caused her death very suddenly. She leaves a husband and two children and a number of friends to mourn her loss. The bereaved have the sympathy of this community.

Rock Springs News: Lewis Moon of Garfield, Ark., was transacting business here last Friday and Saturday.

Shell Knob News: Alfred Greenstreet who has been in Idaho for the past ten years, has returned to his hold home here.

New Site News: Pleasant Carlin and family, Mrs. G. E. Fleetwood and children, Mrs. A. E. Banks and baby and Miss Nettie Fleetwood attended church at Eagle Rock the 1st Sunday in June and visited relatives and friends a few days on the river.

New Site News: Misses Stella Long and Dona Wormington and Messer. J. H. Banks and Dow Wormington drove to Granby Saturday to attend Children's Day exercises there Sunday. Miss Long will spend the summer with her aunt, Mrs. Hutzel, at Granby.

Albert Curry and wife who have been in from Nebraska for several days visiting relatives in the vicinity of Cassville and Eagle Rock left Monday night for Afton, Okla., to reside.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hawk left Friday evening for Washington D. C. to witness their son-in-law, Will Dow, receive the degree of LL. B. in law.

Mrs. R. C. King and daughter, Miss Edna Stewart, of Omaha, Neb., visited in Cassville Tuesday on their way home form Rogers, Ark.

Thomas Ecker of Roaring River was kicked by a horse last week and his condition for a time was considered serious. At last report he was doing nicely.

Floyd, six year old son of Ed Vanderpool on Roaring River, died very suddenly Monday night last week. His ailments are not known as he appeared to be enjoying the best of health until death. Interment was made the day following at the Munsey Cemetery.

Washburn News: Mrs. Mat Sullivan died at her home, 3 miles northwest of town, June 12. She was laid to rest in the True Love Cemetery. She leaves an aged husband and one son to mourn her death. She was blind many years and a great suffer but bore it all with Christian fortitude.

Washburn News: Mrs. Will Hodge died at her home, one and one-half miles southeastt of town, Monday, June 9 and was buried at Washburn Prairie cemetery, June 10. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. T. Brattin to a large number of sorrowing friends. She leaves a husband and two children to mourn her death besides other relatives.

Washburn News: Miss Lydia Burnett and brother, Amos, are expected home some from Colorado Springs. Miss Lydia is no better.

Washburn News: Frank Campbell reached his 21st birthday, Sunday, June 15th, and in honor of the occasion, he was given a nice dinner and his aunt, Mrs. Walter Stephens, presented him a fine gold watch and chain.

Oliver P. Shaffer, a pioneer citizen of Monett, died Sunday afternoon, age 69 years. Until recently he had been engaged in real estate and insurance business and was recognized as one of Monett's prominent business men. He is survived by a wife and four children.

Mrs. Sidney Parker and son, Dick, came in last week from McAllister, Okla..

W. J. Brock and son, Willis, of Shell Knob were in Cassville Tuesday. They report the need of rain in that section of the county.

In the case of J. M. Davidson vs. the Audit Bond Company located at St. Louis, charged with damages growing out of the examination of the county offices two years ago, was continued Monday in the Dade County Circuit Court at Greenfield until November. Attorney J. S. Davis, J. S. Plattenburg and County treasure Wardlow went to Greenfield Saturday night in interest of the case and returned Monday.

Attorney James McCollum and wife of Pawnee, Okla., returned home Sunday evening after a visit with Mr. McCollum's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William McCollum, of near Monett.

Pleasant Ridge News: Several of the neighbors and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Crouch Sunday and gave them a very pleasant surprise. It being their 34th wedding anniversary. While Mr. and Mrs. Crouch were at church, the crowd gathered and had the table spread with everything good to eat by the time they retuned from church which was enjoyed by all. All departed at a late hour after enjoying the day very much.

Wheaton News: Mrs. P. S. Potts had the misfortune to get her arm broken Thursday while at Cassville. She was standing in the buggy trying to let the top back when her foot slipped and she fell to the ground breaking her arm at the wrist. Mrs. Potts was at the home of her mother in Cassville, when the accident occurred. She returned home Thursday evening.Journal.

Wheaton News: The Granby Miner will soon be a thing of the past. In last week's issue the editor stated that the paper would be discontinued after June 127th, and the plant will be moved to another town.

Bert Woodhouse of Scholten was here Friday making final proof up on a homestead.

Sheriff Bridges accompanied by Deputy Sheriff J. M. Sanders and D. L. Mitchell as a special deputy left Friday evening over the Frisco with four prisoners for the state penitentiary at Jefferson City and one for the reform school at Booneville. The prisoners had pleaded guilty to the charges against them in the circuit court. >Neosho Times
