Homer Packwood, the eighteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Packwood, west of Exeter, died Saturday of a stomach and bowel trouble. Funeral services were held Sunday and his body laid to rest in the cemetery at Exeter. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in the hours of deep grief, which has come to them. Homer was just reaching the years of young manhood. His death in the brightest days of youth when life is fullest of hope and the desire to live and to do are the strongest, is indeed sad.

A. J. Weaver and a fine team of black horses were drowned in the James River near Galena Sunday. Weaver and a brother-in-law were attempting to ford the river when the swift, deep current submerged men and horses and carried them down stream. Mr. Weaver was not able to swim to shore and drowned. His body was later recovered near the new iron bridge structure. Monett Star

Clarence Bowen, the assailant of little Cora May, was brought into circuit court Thursday and attorneys appointed to look after his case. Judge McNatt appointed Mayhew, Sater & Gardener of Monett as his attorneys. Preliminary examination was waved and Bowen was returned to jail until the July term of court.

John M. Sherwood a prominent citizen of Neosho, died very suddenly Sunday, April 16, while assisting to fight a fire in that city. He was chief of the fire department. Mr. Sherwood dropped dead while directing the fire boys. He was one of the influential citizens of Neosho.
