Rev. J. T. Brattin preached the funeral of Percy Lee Shaffer at Kings Point, Dade County, Sunday, Jan 8.Percy Shaffer was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Shaffer who lived for years at the McMurty Spring on the Washburn road southwest of Cassville. The family is well known by all the old settlers of the community. They moved from the McMurty place to Barton County, from Barton to Dade County where they still live. Percy was living in Kansas when he was accidentally killed, Jan 5. He had started for his gun to shoot a pigeon. The gun was at the barn on some hay where he had been killing rats about the barn. He took hold of the muzzle of the gun and drew it toward him. The gun was discharged, it was thought by hammer catching in the hay. Shaffer was shot in the heart and died instantly. He was 33 years of age and leaves a wife but no children.
