John W. Weaver Dead:


Uncle John Weaver died Monday night, Sept 23, 1907, after a long and painful illness, stretching and painful illness through many years. Ever since he came out of the army he has been practically an invalid. No one who saw him shaking with palsy, will forget the old gentle man, and how patiently and cheerfully he bore it all.

His intelligence in matters in general and in religion in particular made him an interesting man to talk to and be with.

He reached the advanced age of 72 years, six months and fourteen days, was a soldier and drew a large pension.

Mrs. Burkhart of Joplin, and Mrs. Jack Smith, daughters, with his wife, were at the funeral, yesterday, at his late residence. Eld. Prewitt officiating. A couple of Mormon Elders were also present, the friends of Mrs. Weaver, who also assisted in the services.

The interment was in Maple Park. Old comrades of the Grand Army acted as pall bearers -Aurora Argus.

Mr. Weaver was a resident of this city several years ago and moved from this place to Aurora where he has since resided. He was a good citizen and a member of the Christian Church. Mrs. C. G. Kelley of near Eagle Rock was his daughter.

James A. Marbut of near McDowell, was in town Saturday, and said his father, A. J. Marbut, who was thrown from a horse recently, was slowly recovering, but that he feared he would never be able to walk again. We hope he will fully recover.

Scholten News: Mr. Bennet has a new daughter-in-law. This makes three.

Cross Hollows News: Mrs. H. T. Denton and grandson, Jewel, have been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Annie Gann of Monett.

Sheriff O'Dwyer took Gabe Potts to the penitentiary, Tuesday night, where he was sentenced for two years.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Volz are the proud parents of a boy, born Oct 1st. Monett Star.

Robt. Anderson's babe is dangerously ill.

Mrs. Dock Hefley of near town went to Stotts City, Thursday morning to attend her mother, Mrs. Sam'l Babb, who is growing worse and is now unable to swallow.

Mrs. Reba Alsup arrived Tuesday, from Sweetwater, Texas, to visit her parents, O. P. Murphy and family of near town.

By a letter to Bon Manley from Sam Galloway, we learn that he and Miss Mary Brewer of Alton, MO, were married last week.

Sheriff S. A. Johnson of Galena, Stone County, came in Monday morning and took Chas. Dunn to Galena, where he will be tried on the charge of stealing horses. Dunn up to a year ago bore a good reputation.

Rev. Love said the words that couple Pearl Elliott of Washburn and Miss Erta Ellis of Exeter together for life, in this city, Tuesday.

A sudden Death:


Max, the six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Prichard Hood of Perryville, MO, died suddenly, Oct 2, of membranous croup. He was a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Plummer of this city. He was a bright little fellow, and of a very lovable character. There relatives have the sympathy of their many acquaintances in this county.

Rev. U. G. Wilkinson, a Christian minister, came up from Golden Thursday and took the evening train for St. Louis.

Wayne, the 5 year old son of Ab. Galloway, escaped being killed by a Jersey cow, Thursday evening by the timely arrival of Mark Shepperd, who had to use a scantling to get the cow away from the boy. Wayne was bruised about the head, face and body, but is not thought seriously.

Am. Wiley dangerously Sick:


Am. Wiley an old and prominent citizen of near Scholten is dangerously sick. He has been stricken with paralysis from which there is no recovery. His many friends and acquaintances throughout Barry County, will be grieved to learn of his condition.

A Good Citizen Dead:


Died, Oct 3, 1907, Christina Frost, after a lingering illness of nearly a year. The remains were laid to rest in the Roller Cemetery, Oct 5. The deceased was a daughter of Col. Alfred and Elizabeth Gowen, and was born near Murfreesboro, Tenn., July 6, 1853, coming to this county in 1856, where she lived most of her life. Sept 9, 1869, she was married to Pleasant M. Frost, who with three children, Wm. O., and Daisy Frost, and Mrs. Manta McCary, survive her. One son, Thomas B., died in early life. She was a member of the Christian Church and lived the life of a Christian. It was her way to aid the weak and helpless. No wanderer ever went from her door unaided. The passing of the years had told greatly on her health and her suffering was much, until that autumn day when God released her from all pain. May all who knew her so live as to rejoin her in that far away home beyond the skies.

Jas. Whittington of Eagle Rock, took Tuesday noon train for the north.

We hear that Wesley McCarty of Cherryvale, Kan., will move back to this this county.

Mrs. F. J. Warren and son, of Mineral Springs, returned Wednesday from a visit with relatives in Ohio.

Mrs. Robt. Montgomery of Liberty township, accompanied by her niece, Miss Luna Motley of Lawrence County, visited relatives in this city Thursday, and made the Democrat office a pleasant call.

Dr. L. A. Harris who was confined in jail here, on a charge of bigamy, had his trial, and was acquitted, and was then taken to Springfield by a deputy U. S. Marshall, was removed to South McAllister, I. T., last week where he will stand trial in the U. S. Court.

Melvin Lowery of Bradley County, Tenn., visited his cousin, Hugh Montgomery and family of this city last week. He returned home Sunday night.

Press and John Hatcher, of Joplin, visited their sister, Mrs. W. M. Coons and family of near Shell Knob, last and this week.

Mrs. Cares and daughter, Mrs. Swank, of Hailey returned Saturday from a pleasant visit with relatives in Parsons, Kansas.

Harlan Roller has sold his interest in the Jenkins Roller Mill and has moved to Seligman.

Married, Oct 1, 1907, by Rev. E. W. Love, of this city, Jas. Fogg and Miss Ella Cantwell. May they live a long and happy life.

J. B. Harman and wife of Knox County, Ind., are visiting her sister, Mrs. W. P. Timmons and family of near Mineral Springs.

Death visited the home of Chas. Vinyard of near Butterfield, Monday night and membranous croup carried away his child, Charlie has our sympathy.

Virgil N. Roberts of Rogers, Ark., and Miss Grace Peters of Joplin were married last Sunday at the latter place. Mr. Roberts is very well known in this city. He was formerly a postal clerk from Monett to Paris.

Hubbard Johnson of Webb City, the oldest member of that family, age 89 years, and his brother Frank Johnson, the youngest of that family, of the State of Washington, who had not seen each other for 56 years, visited their cousin, Mrs. J. S. Plummer and family of this city, and their sister-in-law, Mrs. Justin Walker of near town, last week. All their kinfolks enjoyed the visit and were truly glad to see these brothers looking so well. They returned Monday.

Announcements have been received by relatives in this city of the marriage of O. P. Waterbury and Mrs. J. L. Marshall of Nora Springs, Iowa, Oct 8. Mr. Waterbury's many acquaintances in this city hope that he may realize his fullest expectations.

Purdy News: Arthur McCallister died Sept 28, 1907, age 12 years old, the remains were laid to rest in Arnhart Cemetery.

Purdy News: Dr. McCraw, an old citizen of this county and father of Jacob McCraw of near Purdy, is very sick with pneumonia. He is about or nearly 90 years old.

Liberty Township: Albert Laney and wife of Liberty township, are proud parents of a girl.

Liberty Township: Miss Jane Jordan is teaching a very successful school at Union Valley.

Cross Hollows: Mrs. Etta Madison is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Patton of this place.

The telephone lines in Barry County are the greatest conveniences in our county, as was evidence Wednesday night when young Condo broke jail.

Mrs. J. B. W. Bennington will leave tomorrow for Dillion, Mont., to visit her sons, Clyde and Chas.

A. C. Hailey, went to Berryville, Ark., Wednesday night to visit his mother, Mrs. Ophelia Hubbert, his brother, J. D. Hailey, and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Fred Witmire returned to Crane Tuesday evening, after a pleasant visit with her uncle, C. W. Williams and wife and other relatives and friends.

Rev. John Sturdy now resides at Alma, Arkansas.


He was raised 1 1/4 miles east of Corsicana, Barry County, and was a member of the old Sturdy family, well known before and during he war. He was a brother of Wm., John, and Ferrel Sturdy.

Monett Times: Mrs. Rose Conroy died, Oct 15th, age 85 years, of a stomach trouble. She had been a resident of that section since 1876. Her children living are: Mrs. Jas. Carey, Mrs. John Callah, Miss Lizzie, John and Will Conroy of Monett, Mrs. J. J. Murphy of Joplin, and Sister Bernetta of Lebanon, KY. Father Pendergast, conducted funeral services, and the remains were laid to rest in the Pierce City Cemetery on the 17th.

An Old Citizen Dies:


Uncle Henry Ambrose of Urbanette, one of the oldest citizens of the county, died at his home last Sunday morning. He was about 75 years of age and large portion of his long life had been spent in this county. Berryville Ark. Starr.

He was the father of the many Ambrose boys that formerly resided in that section; and was also the farther of the late John Ambrose who was sent to the "pen" from this county.

Daniel J. Ray:


We received a letter on the 19th from Daniel J. Ray of Moulton, Iowa, a former resident of this city, and a son of the later Capt. Wm. Ray, a well known resident of this city and county, during life. Dan wrote inquiring for the address of some of the members of his father's company, during the war. We had lost track of Dan, and have not known of his whereabouts for many years.

An Old Book:


Wm. Ennis living east of this city showed us a book Saturday that his father, the late Elisha Ennis purchased in 1829, that was printed in New York, Mar 10, 1829, by R. Lockwood and is entitled "American Popular Lessons", chiefly selected from the writings of Mrs. Barbauld and Miss Edgeworth. It has been re-bound with leather and shows great age and use. It is a great relic and keepsake.

Washburn Prairie News: A young lady by the name of Westfall, was buried in the Prairie Cemetery, Sunday evening.

Attempted Suicide:


Miss Bertha Black of Monett, daughter of M. F. Black of that city, attempted to commit suicide, Monday night by taking carbolic acid. A physician was summoned and her life was saved. A love affair and bad health is given as the cause for the rash act.

Seligman News: Bob Fine has rented the farm on which Bud Smith has lived for four years. Bob means to grow strawberries and cantaloupes.

Seligman News: Miss Lewie Reed died Sunday. [Copy is difficult to read but looks like Lewie.]

Dr. McGraw died at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct 17th of pneumonia, age 85 years. He was an old resident of the county, and had many friends that will regret learning of his death.

Scholten News: Wm. Hancock of Washburn passed through Scholten Sunday morning. He had been to Arkansas and bought apples, and sold them at Aurora.

Scholten News: Am. Williams and Mrs. Bilda Gipson were married Oct 16. Happiness to them.

Scholten News: Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Neil were hurt by their team running awy last Saturday evening. Elmer was hurt pretty bad.

F. C. McCary known to all old settlers, and to a host of friends as "Tobe" McCary died in Denver, Friday, Oct 4, 1907, of erysipelza and was buried at the Reader burying ground Tuesday, his remains have been brought home from Denver by James Montgomery. A large assimilage of friends followed their remains to their last resting place.Snake River Sentinel, Baggs, Wyo.

Married Hilton - Long:


Married - At the home of Rev. Thos. Scott, the officiating minister, Tuesday, Oct 15, 1907, Mr. Robert Hilton of McDowell, to Miss Mary Long of near Crane.

Bob bribed the boys not to tell us, but just as we were going to press, it leaked out. We would like to take a column to tell the good qualities of this excellent couple, but we can't at this time, suffice it to say they are of our very best young people, and we join a host of friends in congregations.Crane Chronicle

A Fight at Seligman:


Frank Brewer of near Seligman, is reported to have got an overdose of tangle foot, Oct 25th, and assaulted Lewis Barnes, a nice young man of that place, by knocking him down twice, when Barnes is said to have used his pocket knife on Brewer, and cut him once on the head and his clothing in several places. The trouble is said to have come up over some trivial matter. Brewer was not badly hurt. He is said to have been the aggressor.

Attempts Suicide:


Miss Zula Williams, the 17 year old daughter of Mrs. Joe Herd, who resides in Benton County, Ark., just over the Missouri line, the Rogers Ark., Democrat says attempted suicide on Sunday afternoon by shooting herself with a 32 caliber revolver, and fired three shots. One shot struck just above the heart, another just below and pass through her lung, while the third passed through her left side and lodged in her arm. No cause is given. She was alive Tuesday morning, but no hopes were entertained for her recovery.

A Runaway:


Henry Skelton and a young lady of Seligman, while taking a drive near that place, Oct 25, their team runaway, tearing the buggy up, but neither of the occupants were injured. The team and buggy belonged to Chas. Edens, the liveryman.

Married, Sunday, Oct 27th, 1907, by Rev. Hopkins, at the home of the bride's parents in Pioneer, Alva Stark and Miss Nora Allen. Mrs. Stark is a daughter of Robt. Allen of Pioneer and Mr. Stark is said to be a splendid young man.

Charged with Stealing:


Sheriff O'Dwyer went to Afton, I. T., Saturday night and arrested Henry Frazier, on a charge of stealing a gun and $100., in money from G. A. Wisely of the Oliver's Prairie Country, in October and brought him to this city and lodged him in jail. Squire Davis of Liberty township issued the warrant and heard the case Thursday. The gun was found in Frazier's possession and he claims to have purchased the gun from a man.

Frank Brewer and Lewis Barnes of Seligman, charged with fighting, submitted their cases, and Brewer was fined, and Barnes was discharged, without being fined.

Born to Claud Frost and wife of near town, Oct 28, a daughter, Claud is very reticent about his new daughter, but when the boys call him "dad" he smiles. Grandpa Simp Frost will probably commence to learn a new edition of baby songs.

Born to Bon Manley and wife, Oct 28th, a daughter, Bon's condition while serious, hopes are entertained for his ultimate recovery. Granddaddy Plattenburg steps a little higher.

John Thompson will have his trial in McDonald Township today, Saturday, on a charge of whipping a son of Emanuel Twilliger too severely. Parents make a mistake in having a teacher arrested in a case of this kind. It is better to have a boy suffer than to assist his ruin.

Charlie Curry and his brother-in-law, Geo. Skelton of Eagle Rock, were in this city, Wednesday, and took out a nice monument to be place at the grave of the late Franklin Curry. This monument was manufactured by the Cassville Marble Works and is a splendid job. Mr. Curry was a good man and was deserving of having splendid monument placed at his grave, to mark the last resting place, of a man who live a good life.

Scholten News: Alba Williams has the foundation laid for a new house which he needs for his three boys and one girl.

Thomas Hollow: Warren Davenport will return home from Red Fork, I. T.

Kings Prairie News: Mrs. Hegler from Parsons, Kan., is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. John Henderson.

An Old Citizen Dies:


Miss Sarah Ab Woodward an old and respected resident of near Concord Church in Liberty township, died Nov 6, 1907, of dropsy, after a four weeks illness, age 58 years. She was a daughter of the late James and Betsy Woodward, old time and highly respected citizens of this county, and leaves one brother and four sisters to mourn her death. She had been a member of the C. P. Church for 40 years and was a good citizen. Rev. Robt. Ramsey conducted funeral services at Concord Church, on the 7th, after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery there.

For Murder in the First Degree:


The Springdale, Arkansas news says Hugh Daugherty who killed James Littrell at that place last summer, was indicated for murder in the first degree. The case was continued. Walker & Walker are Daugherty's attorneys. Daugherty lived east of the city several years ago.

Acquitted:


Henry Frazier was acquitted, Monday in Squire Gurley's court at Exeter, on a charge of stealing a gun and some money, from G. W. Wisely of the Oliver's Prairie county. Prosecuting Attorney Sater prosecuted and J. W. George of this city defended.

A serious mistake was made last week, in the Democrat, when it stated that Dick Lucky had celebrated his 59th birthday, when it should have been, as he says, 49. A lady said, why he need not kick about it, as he looks like he might be 108.

Purdy News: Mrs. Calvin Washington, nee Archibald, of Marietta, Okla., is mother of a new baby boy. Mother and babe doing nicely.

El Paso News: Ova Parkinson and Miss Vineta Duncan were married Oct 27. They have the congratulations of their many friends in this community.

Monett Times: Born to Merter Pitts and wife, Oct 20, a son.

Monett Times: Born to Bert Wormington and wife, Oct 27, a daughter.

Monett Times: Wm. Beckham of near Carthage, died last week. He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. W. E. Marion of Monett.

Monett Times: Chas. P. Vaught and wife have gone to Kentucky to visit their old home at Eubanks. They have been away 40 years.

Seligman News: Dr. Chas. E. Apple has sold one-half interest in his drug store to his brother-in-law Sam Osborne.

Seligman News: Roy Cornell was elected president of the New Salem Literary Society.

Seligman News: Squire Patterson has been confined to his room with asthma for the last ten days.

Liberty No. 2 News: J. C. Bailey returned home Saturday from Carthage where he had been with his little son Virgil, to have an operation performed.

Scholten News: John Frisby and wife are at Marionville, having a little girl treated or inflammatory rheumatism.

Scholten News: Mrs. Emma Smythe and daughter Myrtle, visited at Marionville last week.

Rocky Comfort News: W. H. Whitworth is teaching a school term of music.

Buzzard with Bell:


Jack Smith a prosperous farmer and fruit grower who lives 3 miles south of Aurora, related an interesting and unusual occurrence to the Argus. He said when he and some of his neighbors were out in the field at work when they heard a bell, they thought some stock had probably broken into their field, they looked for stock but could not find it, yet at times, they could distinctly hear the bell. They noticed some turkey buzzards sailing around and after watching the buzzards for a while they discovered that very time the buzzard would flap its wings the bell would ring. The question is who put the bell on the buzzard and where and when ? Argus.

County Court Proceedings: Minnie Mosby, a feeble minded person, was ordered admitted to Colony of Feeble minded in this state.

County Court Proceedings: W. M. Marbut was appointed constable of Pleasant Ridge township, vice W. L. Bolton, resigned, bond filed and approved.

County Court Proceedings: J. D. Berryhill, D. G. Reese, Fait Henry, John Black, John Frost, E. B. Babb were appointed election clerks and election judges from Washburn. The upcoming election was for a new court house and jail.

Passed to the Great Beyond:


Mrs. Kate Reese, wife of the late S. A. Reese, died Sunday evening, Nov 10, of general debility, age 76 years, 9 months. She was the mother of F. N. and Al Reese of this city, D. G. Reese of near Washburn, Mrs. Kate Robbins, Lawrence Co., G. C. Reese of Miller, Peter Reese of Okla. and Sam Reese of Idaho. For 35 years Mrs. Reese had been a member of the M. E. Church South, and died in that faith, the remains were conveyed to Washburn Prairie, Monday afternoon and there laid to rest beside her husband, who had gone before. Mrs. Reese formerly resided at Washburn and Seligman. We are requested to return the sincere thanks of her sons, for favors extended during their mother's sickness and death.

Jenkins City News: Mrs. H. V. Harvey has returned from Joplin visiting her son.

Mrs. Harris Hudson and sons of Joplin are visiting her parents, A Hessee and wife.

Jas. Henley shipped a game rooster to Glidden, Col.; also one to Ardmore, I. T., yesterday.

Dr. Northcutt of Washburn, spent Monday afternoon in Cassville. The Dr., said by a successful management, the canning factory at that place made 100 percent this season.

Artie Thomas of Washburn visited with Monett friends this week.

Jasper Clark of Purdy, attended probate court, Monday, 30 odd years ago he commenced taking the Cassville Democrat, and has been a continuous subscriber since. He said he could not be without it, and we have commenced another thirty years to him.

Charged with Robbery: Orvil Willyard has been arrested charged with robbing Dr. A. R. Gonce at Viola, Nov 2nd of $20.05. the trial will come up at Viola, today, Saturday. Willyard comes from a good family, and we regret to hear of his being charged with such a crime.

Born to Dr. G. D. Quinn and wife of Golden, on Sunday, Nov 10th, a daughter. The child's granddaddy R. G. Salyer of this city, steps a little higher, on account thereof.

Sam Laney, who was struck by a train at Aurora last week, died from the effects of the injury, Thursday noon.

Mrs. A. W. Bethel and sister Miss Flossie Manley of Joplin, visited relatives and friends in this city this week.

Shady Grove News: Lige Long and wife were baptized Sunday into the Baptist Church at Butterfield, by Elder Pryor.

Monett Times: Ortha Hamilton of Washburn visited his sister, Miss Dema Hamilton, Sunday.

Acquitted:


Eugene Jarrett of Aurora, was acquitted Wednesday, at Mt. Vernon, of the charge of murdering Policeman John Chambers at Aurora, a short time ago. The verdict is reported to have been unexpected.

Born to Will Shepard and wife, Nov 17, 1907, a daughter. Will is taking it very well, but the granddaddy, the "old head", Mark Sheppard, has been trying ever since to grow and straighten up, but his suspenders hold him down.

Deputy U. S. Marshall, Harry J. Mead of Springfield, was in this city on 15th, and subpoenaed L. R. Smith our drayman to attend the US. district court at East St. Louis, Ill.

Chas. Sills has moved from his farm, in the Pasley neighborhood, to the Roaring River Mill, and will look after the property there.

Marshal Hessee and son of Starford came in Wednesday morning to attend the funeral of Mrs. Arch Hessee. Marsh is a brother of Arch and Bedford Hessee.

During the funeral services of Mrs. Arch Hessee, the business houses of this city, out of respect to Mr. Hessee and family, were closed.

L. R. Smith, our drayman, left Monday night for East St. Louis, where he went as a witness in a case of Terminal Railway Co., vs. The Frisco Co., in a case of damages to two cars of cattle that were shipped in a stock train, that Mr. Smith went to St. Louis on, a short time ago. L. R. got back.

Mrs. Jas. M. Stubblefield and her daughter, Mrs. Mattie Resing, of Oregon, are visiting relatives at Exeter. Many years ago they resided on the farm just this side of the McMurty Spring, out out the Washburn road, 2 1/4 miles.

Judge E. M. Bowman continues in a very feeble condition at his home in McDonald township. This is sad news to his many friends throughout the county.

Asher C. Smith of Marionville, was in town Tuesday and informed us that he had traded his farm near Purdy to W. A. Wilks for the Red Mill and 80 acres of land near Verona. Consideration $7,000. He also informed us that Mrs. Smith recently fell and broke one of her arms at the wrist.

Houston Marbut has been granted an increase of pension to $12.00 per month.

Leo Stewart departed Saturday night for Sheldon, Iowa. It is rumored that he will commit matrimony. Best wishes and success.

Rev. W. T. McClure of Nevada, came in Tuesday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Arch Hessee.

Rocky Comfort Telegrams: Wm. J. Kelly of Simcoe, McDonald County, died Thursday, of last week from paralysis. He was a son of the late Judge Kelley of Newton county and a brother of Amos N. Kelly, who resided near Corsicana, Barry County and Jas. M. Kelly, the attorney of Fairview, Newton County.

Stewart - Banker Wedding:


The marriage of Miss Tillie Banker of Chapin, and Leon C. Stewart, of Cassville, MO, occurred last evening at the home of her brother, Fred Banker, northwest of town. Rev. Chas. Tower, of Reinbeck, performed the ceremony which made the happy couple one for life. Both the young people are well and favorably known here and at Chapin as Mr. Stewart was formerly located at the above place and Miss Banker is one of Chapin's most charming young ladies. Their many friends extend hearty congratulations.

The above clipping is from a Sneldon, Iowa, paper, and accounts for Mr. Stewart's departure for that state, a short time ago. His many friends and acquaintances, will bestow their best wishes on them for a happy and successful married life. They will remain in Iowa, this winter.

Scholten News: Mr. Steve Butler, a well known bachelor, who lives near Scholten, was married last week. We wish him success.

Scholten News: Carrie Wilson's little boy, died Saturday night of whooping cough.

Scholten News: Mr. Dave Williams little baby died, and will be buried at Osa, Tuesday.

Scholten News: Mr. Wm. Bennett's house came very near burning Wednesday morning.

John L. Banks, John Henry and Dock and Chas. Eggleston of Ash township were in this city Tuesday. Mr. Banks said that Barry County should have a new court house, that would be a credit to the people of Barry County.

Moors Farewell of near Eagle Rock was in town Monday, and said that section didn't have hardly any rain last week.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Dell Alsup near this city, Nov 25, 1907, a son. The granddaddy Pat Murphy bears the honors mildly.

Dow Moore and family returned to Galena, Kans. on Sunday's noon train, after a very pleasant visit with Mrs. Moore's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Long of this city and their many relatives near McDowell.

Obituary: The death Angel has visited our home and called Gladis the infant daughter of brother and sister David and Addie Williams, age 10 years. Burial was in Wise Cemetery, near Osa. [abstract]

Bud Gastineau of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, was arrested, in Monett, Monday night charged with stealing a conductor's over coat, to which he plead guilty and was fined $1.00 and cost. The aforesaid Bud was sent to jail to serve out fine and cost. Frisco Policeman Jas. Johnson picked Bud up.

Frank Roblyer, wife, son and daughter of Travers, attended the funeral of their aunt, Mrs. Louisa Martin, here Tuesday.

Died Saturday morning, Dec 14, 1907, Donna Marie, four months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Upton Hutchens of this city, of of bull hives. Rev. Love conducted funeral services at the residence of B. J. Hawk, Sunday afternoon, after which the remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery. The bereaved have the sympathy of all their acquaintances.

Velma, adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Brown, of Ash Township, died this week. They had taken her from the Orphan's Home at Springfield to raise, when she sickened and died. They return their thanks to neighbors and friends for their many kind act and words during her sickness and death.

Miss Julia Larcey of near Eagle Rock, has gone to Hugo, Okla., to visit her brother, John Larcey, and family.

Charley Thomas informs us that Henry McDunner, who was tried at Neosho last week, on a charge of stealing a buggy and team, was discharged. McDunner hired the team of Hill Purvine at Wentworth to be returned at Midnight. He was arrested the next day, July 4th at Purdy and taken back to Newton County.

Called Home:


Mrs. Mary Ennis, died Saturday, Dec 14, 1907, at her home east of Cassville, aged about 60 years. She was an old and respected citizen of this county and has many relatives and friends who will regret to learn of her death. She was the widow of the late Martin Ennis, who died some fifteen years ago and the mother of Mrs. Kathryn Taylor and Mrs. Martha Jeffries of Sarcoxie, Mrs. Caledonia Howard of Hailey, and Lorenzo and Fred Ennis of near Cassville. She had long been a member of the M. E. Church. The remains were laid to rest in the Ennis Cemetery, Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. C. W. Maxwell Dies:


Died Dec 19, 1907, at her home 4 1/4 miles Southeast of Cassville, on the Roaring River Hill, Mrs. Ella Maxwell, wife of G. W. Maxwell, of heart failure, aged nearly 56 years. She was born in Hendricks County, Ind., Jan 15, 1851, and would have been 56 years old next January. She had long been a member of the M. E. Church, and died in that faith. She left a husband and four step-children, to mourn her death; her step-children never knew any difference as they all loved and respected her, she having been a real mother to them, when they were quite young, which continued to the day of her death. All the children attended her funeral. They were: Geo. Maxwell, Jr., of Carterville; Mrs. T. C. Turnpaw and Miss Emma Maxwell of Webb City. Her sister Mrs. John Jackson of Diamond, Newton County, also attended her funeral. Interment was made in Horner Cemetery, Dec 20th.

Scholten News: Born to Carson Jenkins and wife, Dec 13th, a boy.

Thomas Hollow News: Death visited the home of R. J. Davenport, Saturday 14th at 3:00 p. m., and claimed his brother Joel Davenport, aged 65 years; pneumonia was the cause of his death. He leaves one son and four daughters and one brother. Rev. Smith conduced the funeral services at Maple Wood Cemetery, Monday at 1:00 p.m. where the remains were laid to rest. The bereaved relatives have our sympathy.

Kills a Man:


City Marshall Jas. R. Riddle shot and killed Geo. Mullens at Ash Grove, Dec 20th. Mullens was drinking, creating a disturbance. When the Marshall asked him to behave, Mullens drew his knife and threaded to cut the officers head off, when the Marshall shot him through the neck killing him almost instantly. The Marshal gave up.

Mrs. Ayler of near Cato, died Dec 19th of paralysis, age 84 years. The remains were laid to rest in the Mountain Home Cemetery, on the 20th. "So he giveth his beloved sleep." Her children and her grand-children shall rise up and call her blessed.

Lee King a fireman in the MO Pacific road, who was killed in a wreck last week, was convicted some years ago of killing Henry Barchman, saloon keeper at Branson, Taney County, and was afterwards pardoned by Gov. Fulk.

Born to Jas. Henson and wife of near Golden, a big boy last week. Ike Robberson said it came near being a serious matter with Jim as he almost run himself to death, telling about the youngster.

Leann News: Born to Walter McCubbin and wife, Dec 12, a boy.

Rocky Comfort Telegrams: Medames Port Potts and Curtice Boren will visit the latter's parents. Dr. and Mrs. J. R. Horner of Sparta, Ark., also Mrs. Pott's mother-in-law of Ft Smith next week.

Rocky Comfort Telegrams: Dock Long of near town is dangerously ill, and not expected to live.

Purdy News: Frank Haddock has returned from Midland, Ark.

Monett Times: A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Pleas. Carlin south of town the first of the week.

Monett Times: Mr. and Mrs. Jay Brite of 629 Sycamore Street, are rejoicing over the arrival of an eight-pound boy. Springfield Republican.
