Ash News Items: Died, a six year old son of Mr. Pryer of brain fever. One more is down with the same and not expected to get well.

Forest Grove News: We feel sad over the loss of J. C. Sellers but feel sure it is not a loss to him but gain. For years he had been moving to the Sprit, therefore he shall reap life everlasting.

Obituary: Sellers: Died, Thursday, Dec. 28, 1899, at 6:30 p.m., James Calvin Sellers, aged 75 years, 5 months and 27 days.

With the passing of Elder J. C. Sellers, disappears one of the pioneers and most prominent members of the Baptist church of Barry County.

Since the organization of the Barry County Association sixteen yeas ago he had continuously presided as moderator and assisted in the institution of many churches over the county. He was one of the founders of the First Baptist Church of Cassville, organized on Saturday before the first Sunday in June 1883, and also Cassville NO. 2.

James Calvin Sellers was born in Hamilton Co., Tenn., near Ooltewah, July 1, 1824, where he married Frances Ragan, Dec. 21, 1848. About 1862 he moved to Benton Co., Ark., where he was a neighbor of M. C. Messer's parents, and shortly after came to Barry County, settling on White River. In 1856-7, he taught school on Kings Prairie and among his pupils were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. M. Goodnight of Cassville and Houston Marbut of McDowell.

While living on White river he had charge of the Easley ferry and after the battle of Pea Ridge moved to Springfield. In 1868, he returned to this county, locating on the place where he died, four miles southeast of Cassville.

In 1874-5, he was superintendent of the public schools of this county and in 1878 he was elected county treasure on the Democrats ticket. He was one of the charter members of Pythagoras Lodge, A. F. & A. M. of this place.

Services were conducted at Horner Church, Saturday by Eld. J. C. Sills after which interment occurred in Horner Cemetery.

Died, Old Uncle Stephen B. Webb, of Pea Ridge, Ark. He was one of the old pioneers of northwest Arkansas. He came to Benton County in the 40's and settled on the place where he resided until his death. He was an old substantial citizen, a good financier and amazed a fortune. He was a good neighbor, a good husband and a kind father. His hand and heart always open and ready to help the needy and poor. He was a member of the Christian Church. He raised several boys, all of whom were married and gone into the world to do themselves and all are well to do.

Ash News: We learned from a letter written to John T. VanZandt [Van Zandt] from Fairland, I. T. that Aunt Betsy Miller, formerly of this county is dead from the effects of a cancer in her mouth. She was an old-timer of Barry County.

Ash News: Married at the residence of the bride's father, John Mitchell, Ben Scott and Miss Pennie Mitchell, Squire R. B. Taylor officiating. When the two were made one the guests were invited into the dining room where the table was fairly groaning under the good food prepared for the occasion and sample? that was down.

Gunter News: Henry Whittington of Pioneer was visiting relatives on Gunter last week.

Scholten News: W. H. Burk has gone to Tennessee on a visit. He will return about Jan. 15.

Mr. Barney Bush went to Washburn, Sunday, to attend the funeral of the three-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Johnson, who died Friday near Kansas City of pneumonia and was taken to Washburn for interment.

Geo. W. Trolinger and son John were called home Friday night by the serious illness of their daughter and sister, Effie, who is very sick with pneumonia.

John D. Welch, who had been working in Joplin, returned home to Mineral Springs, Monday. Mr. Welch will prospect his land north of Mineral Springs and thinks he can open something good.

Washburn Prairie News: As Mr. and Mrs. Dock James were going to Washburn, Saturday, their team became frightened at the wind mill at Mr. Foster's and ran away, throwing Mr. James from the wagon. Neither was seriously hurt.

Washburn News: Mr. Westmoreland of Minnesota, who bought Old Map Hannahs out, has come with his family to make this their future home.

Washburn News: John Snodgrass, son of Uncle Jack, was visiting his father and sister. He accompanied his sister Mrs. J. H. Ware, Sr., to Aurora.

Oak Ridge News: Zadock Plummer returned Friday from several days journey to the northwest.

Lookout Mountain: Independence school has closed until the first Monday in February on account of the smallpox scare.

McDowell News: Mr. Columbus Lee of Aurora is visiting A. Long and family.

Forest Grove News: Timothy Bowers will soon move to Aurora to work in the mines.

Oak Ridge News: Joshua Arnhart and family from near Purdy visited her sister, Mrs. R. A. Hudson, Sunday.

Ash News: Died, Uncle Jacob Butterum. One by one the boys who wore the blue during the 60's are dropping into the Great Beyond. After services by Eld. W.F. Easley and others, his body was later to wait the bidding of his Master to arise.

Ash News: Mr. Sherm Richards, who was arrested for an assault on Mr. Pippins had his trial in Squire War's court at Washburn the 18th and was fined $1 and trimmings. He could not pay and was sent to the Cassville jail for 12 days to pay for trying to keep his wife's neck from being squeezed any less than it was.

Madry News: Mrs. Mattie Young of Oronogo is visiting her father, Mr. Williams.

Bethel News: Hud McCoy will leave for the wild west in February.

Dog Hollow News: As Nate Bennett was coming home from fox hunting Friday night he approached Melvin Oakley's field and heard something groaning, which was a mad dog having fits.

Golden News: For hunting is the order but very few are caught. W. A. Phillips thinks his hounds would give a fox a good chase if the rabbits would quit bobbing up in front of them. J. C. Tucker has considerable invested in hounds but said if anybody has a hound that can outrun a red fox he can find a sale for it at Golden.

Washburn Prairie News: Mrs. Nellie Stephens is very sick.

Leann News: W. O. Akin and J. M. Allmon are working in their nursery.

Forest Grove News: O. H. Peed Co. H., 1st Idaho U. S. V. who was at Manila, P. I., and became a corporal, served out his time, got his discharge and returned to his mother's home in Colorado City, Colo., but his health was so wrecked that he never saw a well day and died Jan. 18. He was the nephew of Mrs. J. W. Ennes and the grandson of Grandma Thornhill of Mineral Springs.

Forest Grove News: Mrs. A. J. Hall is pushing? her claim for a pension due her former husband, Solemn Bass.

Hailey News: Born to D. F. Fare and lady, a fine Republican voter, Jan. 14.

Lookout Mountain News: Wedding bells have rung again. John Erwin and Miss Belle Ledenham were married, Sunday. We all united in wishing them much joy.

Washburn News: Monday night Grandma Nancy Hale died and was buried at the Washburn Prairie Cemetery. She was 98 years old.

Washburn Prairie News: Miss Tursa Hancock of Marionville visited friends the first of the week.

Seligman News: Wm. Crabaugh will soon have his house completed and it will be a nice location. It is the first house built on the McCann addition.

Rocky Comfort News: Died, at her home in this place, Feb. 4, at 2:30 o'clock, Mrs. John Boren, of smallpox. There have been about one hundred cases of small pox in and around Rocky and this is the first death. Mrs. Boren was quite sick from the first, the disease early assuming the hemorrhagic form. She lived one week only after contracting it. At present there are no new cases but the excitement is great. The mail has not been allowed to go from Rocky to Pierce for some time and the postmaster has been sending by way of Pineville. There is now strong tale of shutting off from Pineville also.

Eagle Rock News: Sunday, Miss Addie Maloney and Miss Essie Hall visited on Cedar.

Eagle Rock News: Tuesday Dock Skelton started three loads of baled hay to Eureka Springs, where he hopes to get top prices for the hay and value received for hauling.

Eagle Rock News: Married Thursday at Uncle George Reed', Dock Goins to Miss Rachel Reed, Esquire Rams Haddock officiating. The happy couple have our best wishes.

Ash News: Died, Mrs. Pollie Thomas, wife of John Thomas, after ten days of illness. Services were held a the Shull Cemetery by R. C. Bone and Rev. J. W. Scott. She had been a member of the Christian Church for twenty years and lived an exemplified Christian life.

Ash News: Died, Grandma Shell [Schell], at the advanced age of 104 years. She was born in Bates Co., Ark., 1796; was married to Jacob Shell, a German, in 1818. In 1840 they came to Missouri settling on Big Sugar Creek in McDonald County. There they remained until Mr. Shell's death, which occurred in 1863. He was killed by the bushwhackers. Their union resulted in twelve children all of who are alive and among the foremost business men of McDonald County.

Washburn Prairie News: Died, Thursday, Feb. 8, Grandma Pennel, 83 years of age. Her remains were interred at the Burlington Cemetery. She leaves many relatives and friends to mourn her loss.

Washburn Prairie News: Willie Dell, Wm. Farwell and Frank Smith of Eagle Rock visited friends Saturday and Sunday.

The oldest Native Missourian:

With the death of Judge Elias Horine of Washburn, passed away the oldest native Missourian to Barry County if not in the state. Born June 11, 1818 in Washington County, Missouri, in 1837 he married Mary A. Raber, by whom he had eight children, five boys and three girls. Those who survive him are Michael and Harrison Horine, Cassville; Hiram Horine, Monett Township; Mrs. Thos. Carlin and Mrs. Eva Johnson, Pierce City. In the spring of 1853 he went to California but returned the next fall. In 1857 he moved to this county, which was his home until his death, which occurred Feb 8.

Sept. 11, 1861, he enlisted in Co. G., 6 MO., Cav., commended by Col. Wright, and remained in the service until Oct. 27, 1864 when he was mustered out at Baton Rouge, LA. Dec. 19, 1864, he was commissioned probate judge of Barry County; July 10, 1865, first lieutenant and recruiting officer for Barry, Newton and McDonald Counties; Jan. 2, 1883, as postmaster at Seven Star; and Sept. 17, 1889 as postmaster at O'day, now Washburn.

In 1885 he professed religion and joined the Baptist Church, with which organization he was associated until death. As a citizen and neighbor he was respected, and sincere regrets are felt over his departure. The remains were brought to Cassville, Friday and interred in the Cassville Cemetery.
Washburn News: Mrs. John Mooney is visiting her daughter, Mrs. W. T. Denbo at Miami, I. T.

Washburn News: Mrs. Henry, mother of Dora, died Thursday morning and was interred Friday in the King Cemetery. Her age was 67 years.

Washburn News: Sam S. Oakley, Jr. died Monday at 9:00, p. m., and was interred in the Washburn Prairie Cemetery, Friday.

Gunter News: Colonel Gurley and family are visiting relatives and friends on Dog Hollow.

Sunrise News: Prof. John Swindle's family arrived Saturday from Rocky Ford, CO. Mr. Swindle will build a dwelling, it is said, near Swindle College.

Shelton News: William Lee and Mr. Pruett of Golden traded farms. Mr. Lee has been with us so long, we hate to give him up.

Butterfield News: Uncle Lawrence Bradly died Sunday, Feb. 18.

Scholten News: Ira Cope of Crane and Miss Dessa Wiley of this place were united in holy bonds of matrimony, Thursday, Feb. 21, Rev. Springer officiating.

Exeter News: Died at the residence of J. W. Daniel, near Exeter, Feb. 24, at 11 a. am., Mrs. Mary A. Allen, age 78 years 2? months, and 7 days. Mary A. Demmet was born in Pennsylvania. After residing in Illinois, Ohio, and Kansas, she immigrated to Missouri in July 1878. She has been a resident of Barry ten years. She was a member of the M. E. Church from the age of 14 until August last when she united with the Holiness. During her last illness she often expressed a willingness to die, claming a part of the first resurrection. "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord."

Eagle Rock News: Sunday, Houston Maloney and Little John Whittington started for Denton County, Texas, where they intend spending the summer.

Eagle Rock News: The dance at Houston Maloney's Tuesday night was well attended.

Eagle Rock News: Died, Friday evening, Jasper Smith. His remains were interred Sunday at 10 o'clock in the Munsey Cemetery, after services conducted by Eld. Cunningham.

Eagle Rock News: Amos Burris, who has been in Oregon for the past three years, showed up some few days ago. He will start back about the first of April. Leroy Whittington will accompany him on the return.

Eagle Rock News: Mrs. Pryor, formerly known as Mrs. Turner, and husband moved to her farm below Eagle Rock on Roaring River, Friday.

Eagle Rock News: Uncle John Whittington, who left here for Joplin last summer is expected back in a few days.

Seligman News: Herbert Sparkman, who has been attending school at Pea Ridge, is at home this week.

Dog Hollow News: A. B. Dobbins of Stotts City was visiting relatives last week and Mrs. Mary Bennett his mother-in-law went home with him to spend a few weeks.

El Paso News: Died, Feb. 2, a child of Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Clapper. The remains were interred in Chitwood Cemetery Friday.

Scholten News: The lawsuit between Walter Cutburth, plaintiff, and A. M. Wiley, defendant, was dismissed on account of plaintiff being unable to file a bond for costs.

Washburn News: Died, Monday, at the home of William Jones, Old Mr. Hall. The deceased had no relatives here. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

El Paso News: Died, Sunday, March 4, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Davidson. The remains were interred in the Vineyard Cemetery Monday. The doctor said bronchitis was the cause of death.

Obituary: Died, Saturday, March 3, 1900, at 6 o'clock p.m., Maggie S. wife of W. I. I. Morrow of Purdy, age 52 years and 1 month of heart failure. Maggie S. Williams was born Feb. 3, 1848. At the age of sixteen years she was converted and united with the M. W. Church of which she remained a consistent member and died after living a Christian life with the blessed assurance that she was the Child of the King. She was an active member of the church and also the Lady's Aid Society in whose work she always took an especial delight. November 29, 1868, she married William I. I. Morrow, who with one child and a host of relative and friends, survive to mourn her loss. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the Purdy M. E. Church by her pastor, Rev. James Lokey, assisted by Rev. Geo. Yarborough of Neosho, after which interment occurred in Purdy Cemetery.

Gunter News: Died, Monday, March 5, Bertha Hayworth. The remains were interred at Arnhart Cemetery.

El Paso News: Oliver J. Brattin, departed this life, Thursday, March 8, at 10:30 o'clock p. m. of brain fever. Mr. Brattin had been a resident of Barry County for several years and was a prominent member of the Presbyterian Church. He leaves a widow, three children, and many friends and relatives to mourn his loss. The funeral was preached in the church by Rev. Gurley of Purdy. The remains were interred in the Concord Cemetery Friday.

Seligman News: Joe Lion and Isaac Crabaugh are taking lessons in bicycle ridging.

Butterfield News: Jim Donken of Springfield is visiting his sister and brother-in-law, Geo. Hancock and wife.

Died, near Herd, Arkansas, March 17, of abscess of lung; James S. Bayless, aged 80 years, 4 months, 17 days. The remains were interred in the New Prospect Cemetery after services conducted by Rev. Atchley. He had been a consistent member of the Baptist Church for fifty-eight years and was the last one of the charter members of the New Prospect Church where all seemed to love and respect him. He leaves a son and many relatives and friends who will miss him. He was born in West Tennessee; moved to Lawrence County, Missouri in 1849, where he stayed a short time and moved about 1851 to Benton County, Arkansas where he remained until his death.

Shady Grove: Owing to the smallpox scare in Lawrence County, W. H. McNally will not teach his spring term of school but will tend a corn crop instead.

Eagle Rock News: Saturday, Houston Maloney of this place and Little John Whittington of Eureka Springs, who had planned and started home three weeks ago for a summer vacation in Tex. returned to their respective homes contented.

Eagle Rock News: Thursday, Uncle John Whittington and son Ford, of Joplin, but formerly of this place, came in on business, but will return to Joplin in a few days.

Eagle Rock News: The dance was well attended at Houston Maloney's Saturday night with five girls and a large number of boys.
