Killed by a Widow: Aurora, MO, June 26, Mrs. John Hanson, armed himself with an ax and going to the house of Mrs. John Wilver, a widow, assaulted her, striking at her several times, each time the victim narrowly escaping death by dodging.

Mrs. Wilver finally reached a revolver and opened fire. The first bullet shattered the ax handle, the next hit Mrs. Hanson upon the upper lip, just to the right of the nose, ranging downward, breaking the jaw in several places and landing in the back of the neck at the base of the skull.

The trouble grew out of the idea held by Mrs. Hanson that the widow was trying to alienate the affections of her husband. Mrs. Wilver was placed under arrest, Mrs. Hanson was killed.

State of Missouri vs. Charles Dickson, charged with assault and battery on one Henry H. Fox, who was the title of a suit brought before Squire Manley, Friday. Dickson entered a plea of guilty and was fined $5 and costs, amounting to $15.55.

The case of the State vs. L. F. Jones and C. W. Claycomb at Galena, last week was settled by their depositing $4,000 in cash, and note, with J. M. Bayless, for the benefit of the creditors of the Citizens Bank of Cassville. The cash and notes have not yet gone into the hands of the receiver, Mr. Bayless being absent.

J. M. Bayless returned Sunday from Toledo, Ohio, where he attended the United States Court in the cases against Charles M. Whitbeck for deeding land which he did not own. Whitbeck, would represent that he owned certain very fine farms, that he would not sell at any price, but he needed money and would deed them the land for their security, as he would pay them in a short time, and that would be the last seen of him, as he did not own a foot of land. He raised money, in that way, on about two hundred pieces of land that he did not own.

Hon. John T. Teel Dead:
Nevada, MO, Oct 5, Ex Representative John T. Teel of Lawrence County died at the Nevada insane asylum this morning. He was brought here from Mount Vernon more than a year ago. His reason became detrimental, a few week's before that time, while in St. Louis, and caused great confusion at the Laclede Hotel by the constant receipt of numerous packages of his wild purchases, and also by a member of personal altercation in which he engaged with parties about the hotel. When Teel was brought to the asylum, he was a large, robust man, but he gradually wasted away to skin and bones. He was a prominent lawyer and Democratic politician and was a member of the state legislature, which located the asylum at this place. He often referred to this act while an inmate of the institution. His wife proved him with a special attend and by special cure his life was prolonged. His body was shipped from here last night to Rushville, Ill, where his wife is making her home with relatives.

Todd - Carter: Married, Sunday, Nov. 3, at the residence of the bride's parents on Kings Prairie, D. Todd and Miss S. G. Carter, Rev. Qualls officiating. About 10 o'clock a.m., the invited guests began to assemble at the residence of Squire Carter and before 11 o'clock the house was filled. A few minutes after 11 the bride and groom entered the sitting room and the impressive ceremony was performed, which made them one. The bride never appeared to better advantage. She was dressed in a cream-colored Henrietta, made in the lutes style, trimmed in white satin ribbon and white lace. In her hair she wore a small bouquet of white chrysanthemums and pink geraniums. After receiving the congregations of their friends they prepared to the New Liberty church, where an able discourse was delivered by Rev. Dutton, after which they returned to the bride's home to partake of the sumptuous dinner prepared by the bride's mother. The next morning a number of guests assembled at Mr. J. Todd's to spend a short time in a social manner, and join at the dinner table to do amble justice to what the groom's mother had so liberty and nicely arranged.

Obituary: Emily, daughter of J. D. and Mary M. Wotton [should be Wooten], died Nov. 5, age 18 years, 7 months and 20 days. She professed faith in Christ Oct. 1890, and joined the M. E. Church south in March 1891, in which she lived faithfully until death. Her remains were followed by the bereft family and her many sorrowing friends to Concord where her funeral was preached by Rev. H. Pinkston, from Amos v8 and Deut. xii 9, after which her body was interred in the Concord Cemetery. As we looked at the lifeless form during the service, in the same alter where she was converted, we wept; but not as those who have no hope, for all felt that her rest was not here but yonder.

Died, Sunday, Dec. 1, 1895, at 2:00 o'clock, a. m. Mrs. S. L. Bayless, age 68 years, 9 months, and 29 days. Sarah Louisa Brunner was born February 2, 1827 in Green County, Tenn., where she grew to womanhood and married Daniel D. Bayless of Washington County. In 1853 they moved to Benton County, Ark., and five years later came to this county settling near Seligman, where they resided until 1888, when they moved to Cassville; there were born to them eight children, of whom W. K. and John M. Bayless and Mrs. M. C. Allen of Cassville, and James M. Bayless of Corsicana, survive her. At the time of her marriage Mrs. Bayless was a member of the Methodist Church her people being of that domination. Her brother John H. Brunner, now retired, was for many years presiding elder. Relinquishing that, he served a long time as president of Hiawassee College, an institution under the Holston Conference. The two kept up a close correspondence for 45 years. After coming west she joined the Baptist Church, in which faith she died. Mrs. Bayless was a domestic nature, and well and extensively read, loved home and was an earnest advocate of the right good morals and true Christian life. Funeral services were conducted Sunday night at the Baptist Church by Eld. Amacker and Monday the remains were laid to rest in the Roller Cemetery, north of Seligman, by the side of her late husband who died in March 1893.

Has Lived Over a Century:
Mrs. Lucinda Kennedy enjoyed her 103rd Anniversary Monday. But few are granted the privilege in these degenerate days of reaching four score years and fewer still of having breathed a century. Mrs. Lucinda Kennedy of Kings Prairie, however has done even better than that and can count 103 years to her credit since first breathing the balmy air of Kentucky, one and half miles from Westport, in Oldham County, Dec 16, 1792. Mrs. Kennedy's many friends delight in remembering her annual anniversaries and Monday gathered at the residence of Mrs. B. T. Eagle, a daughter-in-law, with whom she is living, to the number of ninety-five to spend a portion of the day. None seemed to enjoy it more than Mrs. Kennedy who was up before day and with but little apparent fatigue held a reception until late in the afternoon. When the generous dinner, that had been so nicely prepared by Mrs. Eagle and her daughter, was announced, it was noticeable that her appetite was not of the things she had lost until after very vigorous exercise. Lucinda Harris lived near Westport for about twelve years when, with her parents, she removed to Shelby County, and later to Tennessee, near Memphis. At the age of 16, she was married to Jacob Eagle, by whom she had twelve children, the only surviving one being Mrs. Fredonia Mattingly, age 68, who was a the dinner. Mr. Eagle died in 1839 and after moving to Arkansas, she married James Kennedy, with whom she came to Barry County in 1853. Kennedy was a veteran of the war of 1812, was in the battle of New Orleans and died in 1875. For one of her age, Mrs. Kennedy's memory is remarkably good and flashes of wit indicate that the energy which has sustained her so long is far from being exhausted. She faithfully recalls the early fortifications against the Indians and her travels from one place to another. Her father got part of his supplies from Lexington, KY, which was a long day's ride from home. Her grandfather walked in his sleep and one night walked into the river. Their sugar was made from the sugar trees and their clothing by their own hands. The first calleo dress she had cost 75 cents a yard. Their building was all of logs but some lumber was made. When asked about saw mills, she replied, "You are a saw mill," which indicated the early methods. She has never went [sic] backward but always forward, which others might do to advantage. She is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Pleasant Ridge and has been a church member for 56 years. Mrs. Kennedy comes from a long lived family, her mother, Joanah Harris, living in this county until her 108th year. In addition to her living daughter, Mrs. Kennedy can count ninety grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and twenty-five or thirty great-great grandchildren.
[Newspaper published also had a penciled drawing of her, pictured in a bonnet.]

Obituary: Died, suddenly of hemorrhage of the lungs, at her home in Mountain Township, on the night of Wednesday Dec. 18th, 1895, age 61 years. Jane, the beloved wife of Isaac P. Knight. Mrs. Knight had been in feeble health for several years previous to her death. She was the daughter of Joel Triplett of McMinn County, Tennessee, and will be universally mourned wherever known, as well as by her bereaved family, who have the heartfelt sympathy of all who have the privilege of knowing them. She was a beautiful type of a sincere, humble, patient, and peace loving Christian, and exemplified her faith by her daily life, so that to all those who were privileged to know her, her character will ever be an inspiration and an example. This mortal has put on immortally, and our loss is double her great gain. Sympathizer.
