Pioneer News Items: Miss Myrtle McCombs is visiting friends here this week.

L. H. Preston of Roaring River Mills brought his daughter Miss Cleo, to this city Sunday, evening and she left on the evening train for Springfield where she is attending school after spending the holidays with her parents.

On Dec 30, 1904, near Fayetteville, Ark., Alex Price and Squire Wallace became engaged in an altercation, Wallace wailing a club on Price when the latter's son, Will Price, shot Wallace, Killing him. Jan 2, Alex Price surrendered and was committed to jail in default of bond and Will Price has not as yet been captured.

Lorenzo Brattin is in very poor health at his home in Exeter township. We hope to hear of his early recovery.

Frank Sparkman left Wednesday for Booneville, where he will attend school.

David Kneeland who stole horses belonging to John Hagler and Bud Long and a buggy from A. W. Thomas all of Kings Prairie township, sometime ago, was caught by the police of Joplin, last Saturday. He was brought to this place and lodged in jail in this city, Wednesday night, by Deputy Sheriff Joe Jackson. Kneeland was caught in Neodesha, Kansas, sometime ago but escaped. He is wanted in several placed for horse stealing. He told where the horses were.

Mrs. C. D. Manley and Miss Alta Goodnight attended the funeral of their uncle, Jackson Holt of near Aurora, Sunday. He died of consumption.

Mrs. J. W. LeCompte is going to prepare a supper for the ball, and that ensures it to be in fine style.

The installation of the officers of the Pyhagoras Lodge 383, A. F. & A. M., will take place on the 27th of the month.

Dr. Perry of Rocky Comfort was up last Thursday, and paid his respects to the Democrat office.

If no provincial hindrance, the Cassville Cornet will pay the Corsicana Cornett Band a visit, this evening. There're be lots of tootin' done, we'll bet a flint lock musket on that.

Mrs. Elias Shaffer of near Mano, died Monday. She was the mother of Mrs. John Hankins, living 2 miles northwest of town. Mrs. Hankins went to her father's Monday evening.

Rev. Jas. Swiger held services at the Baptist Church, Sunday

B. F. VanNatter, a prominent citizen of Monett, died Friday of last week.

Ash News Items: Some low down sneak went through M. M. Care's house last week. They got nothing and the low down scamp went to Jas. Cargil's house but the found the girls were up and they did not go in the house.

Uncle Jack Holt, one of the best known residents of Lawrence County, died early this morning at his home about five miles north of this city, as a result of bronchitis, of which he had been a victim. The funeral will take place at 10 a.m. tomorrow from Zion Church, the remains to be interred at Grammer burial ground.

Deceased was born in Benton Co., Tennessee, June 3, 1829 and was 73 years, 6 months, and 24 days of age. He came to Lawrence County to the year 1869 and where he has since resided, a grand, good law abiding citizen, beloved by his children and highly respected by all who knew him. He served as a gallant soldier for the Union during the Civil War and was one of the great Grand Army that is being summoned to the answer of the roll call in the great beyond. He is survived by five children, four sons, Hiram, John, George, and Will, the latter residing in Oklahoma and one daughter who is married and resides in Southern Texas. He had been a member of the C. P. Church for 60 years and his life was that of a true Christian. Aurora Miner

Mrs. Helen Hobbs is at Monett, assisting in caring for her grandchildren, Helen and Lon Perry of Monett, who have the scarlet fever.

Elmer Roop has returned to Republic and will not accept a place with the Cassville Milling & Power Company.

Claud Atkisson and family of Marionville, left Monday night for Oregon.

Some fellow forced a baptizing of Selby Plattenburg, Saturday evening at the fire at the W. C. Hawk's residence by throwing a bucket of water on him. Such cold baths are not appreciated.

Obituary for Mrs. Sarah J. Shaffer, wife of Elias J. Shaffer died at her home near Eagle Rock, MO

George Crump of Harrison, Tom Doyle of Kansas City and S. J. Levy and Rube Ammerman of Rogers were convicted in the justice court of Rogers recently of stealing an over coat from G. M. Gladden and were fined $10. each and 60 days in jail. Gladden lives in Honey Grove, Texas and was a passenger on south bound Frisco night train.

The boys got to the train at Seligman and Gladden claims they stole his coat between that place and Rogers - Springdale, Ark., news.

Roaring River News Items: Theodore Haggard has a severe case of the mumps.

Roaring River News Items: J. T. Hussey of this vicinity died Feb 5th, 1905, of pneumonia fever. He left a wife and 12 children and a host of friends to mourn his loss, he was one of our best citizens. We extend our sympathy to the family.

Mrs. Petty, widow of the late Dr. Petty, died recently at her home east of town, 8 or 10 miles.

During the slick spell parties came to this city for a coffin for a lady that had died 10 or 12 miles east, and it took them 36 house to get here.

Jesse Gee, son of Mrs. Gee that was twice married to Chas. Gee south of town 4 or 5 miles, was drowned in White River one day last week, while going to Eureka Springs after groceries. The body was recovered the next day.

Mrs. L. K. Anderson of Springdale died Monday evening of consumption age 49 years and 11 months. W. E. Felker of Rogers, Ark., first married her sister. Rev. W. T. McClure of the M. E. church conduced the funeral services. The decease was a cousin of Mrs. C. M. Landis and Mrs. Fred Sills of this city and Geo. and Miss Mary Evans of Exeter.

Sorry to hear of the death of Miss Bertha Dickerson of Lawrence Co.

W. T. Flournoy of near Marionville, is reported to have 1,000 barrels of apples in his own cold storage plant.

Joe A. Young of Denver, Carroll County, Ark., is suffering with mental aberration. We believe this is the Joe Young that once lived at Washburn.

A. L. White, a well known and highly respected citizen of Pierce City died, very suddenly Tuesday morning. His health had been on the decline for sometime. The Democrat says he was 63 years old and a member of the Congregational Church. He had hosts of warm friends in Lawrence and Barry Counties.

Samuel Oakley an old and respected citizen of Washburn died Monday. For some time mortification had set in on his feet. Finally his feet and legs perished away, up to his body resulting in his death. Physicians held consultation in regard to amputating his feet some time ago and they decided he could not stand the operation. The remains were laid to rest in the Washburn Prairie Cemetery. The relative has the sympathy of their may relatives and acquaintances of this city.

While taking a horse to the creek to water, Wednesday, a dog scared the horse and he kicked Wm. Hawk in the side, which caused him intense suffering Thursday.

A. Mr. Cisney's [Senseney] wife, an aunt and his mother-in-law, all died during recent severe weather. They lived east of town 10 or 12 miles. Mrs. Claney left an infant babe. [Spelling of Cisney and Claney are as reported.]

Rock Springs News Items: Grandma Bateman is in very feeble health. She is bearing her suffering as well as as could be expected and it is to be hoped she will improve in health.

Mrs. Mattie still has lost two horses; Jas. Still several cattle and sheep; Jack Anderson has lost another cow and a number of calves are looking hard.

Died at her home in Mineralspring, Feb 12, 1905, Martha R., wife of J. Miller of pneumonia, after two days suffering. She was born in Caswell County, N.C., Aug 23, 1843. She was converted to the Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 12 years and she has been a devoted Christian and faithful member since. She leaves husband, one sister, Mrs. F. M. Smallwood of Mano, a number of nieces, one nephew and a host of friends to mourn her loss. After funeral services conducted at the house she was laid to rest in the Mineralspring cemetery to await the resurrection of the just. Let us all prepare to meet thy God. M. Henson.

The three men that broke jail at Galena last week, were captured near Monett, one night last week, by Sheriff Moon of Galena. They burglarized a store at Crane.

Jackson Harle of Billings died last week of smallpox. He was one of their oldest and best citizens. There a several cases of smallpox in that vicinity - Ozark Republican.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Talbert, Wednesday night, a son.

Edward Dotty an old timed citizen of near Flat Creek died last week. He had resided in this county for 50 or 60 years and was a respected citizen.

Mrs. Maria Foulston, died last week at her home, 5 or 6 miles south of town, after a protracted illness, aged about 70 years old. The remains were buried at Huff Cemetery. She was the mother of Ed Church who will have the sympathy of his friends and acquaintances.

Uncle Eli Dunlap who will be 90 years old this month, read the New Testament through three or four times, last winter, without glasses. He has his second eyesight.

Pioneer News Items: Charley Stark and James Williams started for Iowa the first of the week.

Purdy News Items: Mark Birks of St. Joe, has been visiting his father Marlow Birks of Monett.

W. R. Crandall of Cartage has been missing for sometime.

Mrs. Will Walker of Berryville, Ark., died Sunday morning of a lung trouble. Her husband is a son of Geo. Walker of that city, who has many relatives in this vicinity that will share their sorrow.

Clark News Items: Knox Garrison, who shot his hand accidentally while hunting some weeks ago is recovering but it will be many days before he can work much.

We desire to tender our heartfelt thanks to neighbors and friends for their assistance during the last illness and death of our dear mother and grandmother. Ed Church and family.

A large number of Mrs. George Reed's friends recently assembled at her home in Roaring River Township, and reminded her of her 60th birthday. The occasion was a real pleasant one and will be remembered by those present.

Hearrell News Items: Uncle James Savage of Layton Hollow is very low with stomach trouble. He was a soldier in the Mexican War.

A son of D. A. Bills a prominent and well known citizen of the northeastern part of this county, was recently bit by a mad dog. Two mad stones were applied to the wound and they adhered for several hours. We hope nothing will result from the wound. The dog was killed.

John A. Jackson of Monett has had John Ruskoski arrested on a charge of felonious assault made on night of March 3. The Star says Squire Jewett issued the warrant and has examination set for March 14. He gave bond in the sum of $500.

Born to Geo. Callaway and lady, Sunday night, a daughter. The mother and babe doing nicely, but the old man was slightly carried away.

Seigle Whittington has several different varieties of strawberry plants.

Virgil Overstreet of Verona, has been arrested and convicted for throwing rocks at a passenger train at Logan and given 6 months in jail. Treated him just right.

Born to Mrs. W. J. Bloomer a beautiful daughter. We trust and hope that she may grow to womanhood and be a blessing to her esteemed mother.

The court of appeals, in case of State of Missouri vs. Henry Price, appellant the court reversed and remanded the case. It was taken up from Lawrence County.

Marion Vaughn has traded his farm near the Black school house to J. C. Henry for a residence in town, and has move to town.

W. J. Jones of Monroe County, Wis., has been visiting his cousins, C. D. Manley, Mrs. Benton Robbins and Bon. Manley of this city this week. He is very pleasant gentlemen and may possibly become a citizen of our town.

We were sorry to hear of the death of Samuel Bayless of near Herd, Ark., on the 9th instant. Sammy visited his relatives about three times a year in this city, and was always given a hearty welcome. He was a cousin of J. M. Bayless and Mrs. T. M. Allen of this city.

Married Mar 15th, 1905, at Marionville, by Rev. A. J. Williams. Douglas A. Stipp of Kansas City and Miss Fannie Atkisson of Marionville. Mr. Stipp is as adjustor for the Home Ins. Co., and is highly spoken of. Mrs. Stipp is a daughter of the late County Clerk Atkisson, a sister of E. A. Atkisson and is a splendid young lady. They spent this week at Eureka Springs. We wish them each happiness.

Robt. Houston and lady and Miss Myrl Brooks her sister, spent Sunday at Washburn, with their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Roller.

Pharis Thomas, the Veterinary surgeon, will move to this city from Pleasant Ridge twp., and will occupy the Evert Mitchell residence.

Sheriff Thomas attended the burial of his cousin Marion Thomas, Saturday at the Calton Cemetery.

Jonathan Reed died Sunday, March 12, 1905, at his home 3 1/2 miles southwest of Purdy, of old age and was 84 years, 11 months, and 28 days old. He was born in Virginia, March 15, 1820 and came Springfield, MO and lived there at an early day when there were very few houses in that place. He went to Kentucky from there and from there to this county in 1872 where he has since resided. He was married twice and leaves a wife and several children to mourn his death. Rev. J. T. Brattin conducted funeral services at the grave in Cassville Cemetery Monday, after which the remains were laid to rest.

Houston Thomas, a brother of Marion Thomas that was killed at Monett by Harry Birks, was in town Monday, and he informed us that there was no doubt but that Birks intended killing him too and would have done so had not Bartender Sherman caught the shot gun. He said his brother had no gun on his person when killed and neither were drinking. Houston said that he was robbed of $7.50 at Monett last fall and he had lingered around and attempted to located the person that got his money, and he reasons that is why Birks killed his brother and wanted to kill him.

Wm. Autry moved to this city from near Corsicana, this week. He will be Collector Swindle's deputy.

Mrs. John A. McKee died on the 3rd inst. and funeral services were conducted on the afternoon of the 4th by a minister from Eureka Springs, after which the remains were buried in Mucey Cemetery.Mrs. McKee had only been in this community a short time, coming here from Kansas in the fall of 1903 for her husband's health, yet she was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Her death is a sad blow to her husband and two little girls and they have the sympathy of all in their sorrow.

Died at his home in Layton Hollow, Monday, March 13, Uncle James Savage of stomach trouble. The remains were laid to rest at Chitwood Cemetery, Thursday in the presence of his sorrowing family and a number of friends. He was a member of the Baptist Church and had lived a Christian life. Rev. Lewis Creason of the Baptist Church held short services at the grave. The bereaved have our sympathy.

The Rogers Democrat says Jessie Ford and Festa Herd of Garfield, Ark., were recently married. Also H. E. Bressler and Alphe Day of Avoca.

Pasley News Items: It is reported that Charley James had a fine milch [sic] cow to go mad this week.

Rocky Comfort Telegrams: Mrs. Nancy Baker wife of Zack Baker of Pineville, died March 14, 1905, of a nervous trouble, aged nearly 54 years. She was a member of the Christian Church. The Democrat says seven children survive her.

Rocky Comfort Telegrams: Mrs. Martha Scott died on the 17th of rheumatism, age 66 years. She was an old and respected citizen of this section. She was a member of the Christian Church.

Harrell News Items: Aunt Martha Scott, one of Rocky Comfort's oldest citizens died last Friday morning. She was a sister of the late James Dabbs, and Milt Dabbs of Seligman.

Rocky Comfort Telegrams: Thos. Utter and Miss Emma Frazier were married on the 12th last.

Mrs. Ellen Denton of Washburn, and widow of the late Aleck Denton, and a daughter of the late Rev. J. K. Northcutt is dangerously sick.

Geo. M. Turner traded his farm in the Kingdom for a farm near Red Oak, Lawrence County. He is a good citizen and we are sorry he moved away.

Mrs. J. K. Bowman living 6 miles west of town is sick with pneumonia. We hope she may be restored to health.

Jonathan Hunt died March 14, at his home at Round Grove, Lawrence County, age 78 years. Many years ago Mr. Hunt was a citizen of Barry County, before moving to Lawrence County. The older set of citizens will remember him. He left a large family having been married twice.

Born to Ilus M. Lee and lady of Monett, a son, March 9th. All doing nicely.

Mrs. Eppha Baker an old and highly respected citizen of this place has been very sick. She is the widow of late Rev. Caleb Baker a well known Baptist Minister, in his day and time.

Married Sunday by Rev. J. T. Brattin, U. G. Bennett and Miss Margaret Smith of near Rocky Comfort.

Mrs. C. M. Sparkman received a telegram Tuesday, informing her of the serious illness of her brother Marion Stainbrook at Galena, Kansas. Accompanied by her son Frank, they left on the evening train for Galena. Mr. Stainbrook prospected the sugar Camp Hollow mines two year ago.

Our heart goes out to our old and highly esteemed friend Kelly Higgs on the death of his excellent wife, March 18, of paralysis at their home at the Higgs neighborhood, 7 miles northwest of town, and will await the coming of loved ones left on earth. To Mr. Higgs and his children, Farmer, Will, John and James Higgs and Mrs. Bettie Duncan, we deeply sympathize with you and trust you will all meet in that better land where there will be no more parting. Rev. J. T. Brattin conducted funeral services Sunday, after which the remains were laid to rest in the New Hope Cemetery. A good citizen has been taken from us let's imitate her splendid qualities and be assure of a future life. An obituary will be prepared by Rev. J. T. Brattin.

Jas. Chewning died at Nevada last week. He was buried in Springfield. We believe he was a brother of Robt. Chewning that formerly resided in this city.

The case of Cope vs. Westbay et al. has been affirmed by the Supreme Court. This suit grew out of the assignment of the bank of Monett. The decision of the lower court was in Westbay's favor. The case was appealed from Joplin.

Mrs. Annie Loretta (Smith) Cox, wife of Newton C. Cox of Zincite, died March 19, 1905. She was born April 5, 1874 and was a daughter of the late Samuel M. Smith. She was married to Mr. Cox in 1892 and leaves her husband and three children to mourn her death. She leaves her mother, five sisters and four brothers to grieve over her departure. They formerly resided near town and at Eagle Rock.

On the 17th a cyclone visited Porch, Okla.. One man was killed and 16 others injured. 16 houses were demolished. Springfield, MO, was visited the same day by a small cyclone. Several buildings were blown over. The wind blowed [sic] very hard here and very heavy rain fell.

John Franklin, one of the alleged murderers of Policeman Brice of Joplin was arrested at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Monday, and will brought o Joplin for trial. This makes six person that have been arrested in connection with this murder.

Pearl Skykes who shot and killed James H. Rainwater at Carthage, Nov 6, 1904 was acquitted by the jury Saturday. Judge Gray gave the jury a sever denunciation for returning such a verdict.

Mrs. Walter Wyck's school closed yesterday just west of the city and the patrons and children had a fine dinner and an entertainment and all who attended from the city have spoken in praise of the school and Mrs. Wicks on the successful teaching. Pierce City Democrat.

Geo. Cowan shipped two cars of stock to the Kansas City markets yesterday evening. Mr. Cowan has a large number of cattle on pasture and quite a shipper of stock. Pierce City Democrat.

Mrs. Margaret Kilev of Piece City died last week, age 69 years. She was the mother of Mrs. John Williams formerly of Monett.

John M. McNatt of Aurora died Sunday night of Bright's disease, age 54. He was a splendid man and citizen and we sympathize with his friends and relatives.

The Pierce City Democrat announces the death of Marion Kelly, at Tulsa, I. T. He formerly lived at Jolly and the remains were taken there.

Mrs. Sarah Gladden, proprietress of the Gladden Hotel, at Seligman, March 24th. She was an excellent lady and mother of our redeemed friend Dr. Gladden of Monett who will have the sympathy of his many friends. The remains were laid to rest Saturday in the Seligman Cemetery, beside her husband.

Mrs. Bion Carr died Sunday, at her home, near Golden, MO, of pneumonia. She was a good citizen, and a member of the Christian Church. The bereaved family have the sympathies of their acquaintances.

Uncle Eli Dunlap was 90 years old Monday. He was born Mar. 27, 1815.

J. A. Roller of Seligman, Mo, R. R. No. 1 is selling the Russell & Co.'s stationery engines, saw mills, threshing machines, traction engines, belting repairs and oils. Call on or write him.

A little daughter of Circuit Clerk, Baker, while crossing the creek, Sunday near the mill, on a plank, fell into the creek, and might have drowned had not Mr. Shelton, the shoe store man, ran to her rescue.

Mrs. Alec Denton of Washburn, died Monday, after a lingering illness. She was a daughter of the late Rev. J. K. Northcutt, and leaves many relatives and friend to mourn her death.

Mrs. Ruby Hawk and her son Cleo, attended the funeral of the late W. K. P. Dow at Piece city Wednesday.

W. T. Burton and family moved their residence in this city, Tuesday, from his farm north of Exeter.

Sheriff Thomas brought in Jerome Terrell of near Dale, Monday, and lodged in the jail. He is crazy and a special term of county court has been called for the 20th to send him to the asylum.

Mrs. P. B. Varner of the Pasley neighborhood was very sick Tuesday, night with cramp colic. She was better Thursday.

Loyd Keith living east of town, is enjoying a visit from his mother from Indiana.

Claud Atkisson and family who went to Oregon, sometime ago, will return shortly.

A 3 year old daughter of Fayette Hodges living east of town, got her left foot badly mashed by a gate closing on it, Saturday.

Wm. Perryman of Jenkins will keep his Hambletonian and Denmark horse near that place this season.

Chas. Hutcheson 15 months old babe, has been sick with pneumonia. It was better Thursday.

Wm. Bowman and Az McCauley walked off from Deputy Newman, Wednesday afternoon, while working out on the Golden, Shell Knob and Mineralsprings road. At last accounts they had not been captured.

Hugh Montgomery of Edmund, Okla., has been visiting his mother and relatives near Washburn.

I. B. Preston and lady of the Roaring River Mills, were here on the 7th. Mr. Preston informed us that Mrs. Preston's father, Rev. B. W. Hartley, died April 6, 1905 at his home near Lucrene, Okla., aged 82 years. He formerly owned and resided at the Roaring River Mills. Mrs. Preston left on the evening train on April 7 for Lucrene an will probably bring her mother home with her. Mrs. Preston will have the sympathy of her many friends and acquaintances.

James M. Bayless and daughter, Miss Fannie, of near Corsicana, were visitors to this city, Wednesday.

Geo. Smith and family living 6 miles northeast of town, left Monday for his new home in Johnson Co., Ill.They are good people and we wish them good luck.

Mrs. I. B. Preston of the Roaring River Mills, and her mother, Mrs. R. W. Hartley of Lucerne, Oklahoma, came in Tuesday morning's train.

A. G. Walker has a Red Short Horn Bull that he will keep in his pasture near the cemetery.

Henry Parish has been sick with the tonicities.

H. H. Klink and wife of Guthrie, I. T. are here on a visit to Mrs. Klink's parents, J. W. Shelton and lady. They will probably locate here.

Mrs. Young of Exeter, died April 17. She was 70 years old and her acquaintances say she was a good citizen.
