Butterfield News Items: Rev. U. G. Bryant failed to keep his appointment here Saturday night and Sunday for account of sickness.

Birthday Dinner: Friday, Dec 4 seemed made by nature for rejoicing and feasting. It was the anniversary of the birth of Mrs. Asher C. Smith, living 3 miles southwest of Purdy. Everything good to eat and been spread open two long tables and the house and yard were filed with her relatives and friends when Mrs. Smith returned from a neighbors. Just 54 school children led by their teacher, Miss Nellie Spaulding marched into the yard to the music of Mr. Blankenship's graphophone. After all present had eaten of the bountiful dinner the school children went in to the yard and had their pictures taken, then the whole company, nearly 200 had their pictures made in one group. Mrs. Smith received a gold ring and a set of dishes as a token of the love and esteem in which she is held by those who know her. In the evening Mr. Smith gave 59 of the young folks an oyster supper at which all enjoyed themselves. Fine music was furnished by the Henderson string band, assisted by Miss Cora Fly, Edgar Blankenship, Sherman Waltrip, and Oscar Bennett. All departed feeling that the day had been pleasantly and profitably spent and wishing for Mrs. Smith many more happy birthdays. A friend.
