LOCALS AND PERSONALS

Walter Stapleton of Seligman continues to improve.

Mrs. Julian VanHook returned home Thursday morning of last week from St. Louis, where she visited relatives and friends.

Mrs. Julia Freeland of Monett, has been very sick.

C. D. Manley sold a fine pig to Frank Roberts of Golden, recently.

Mrs. Maude St. Clair of Omaha, Neb., attended Circuit court as a witness this week.

Rev. Thos. Hickman of Lincoln, Benton County is in very bad health.

Mrs. G. D. Quinn of LaRussel, has been attending her father R. G. Salyer, during his sickness.

Wm. H. Martin, Cashier of Barry County Bank will soon resign his position and move to his farm, on account of his health.'

Mrs. J. B. Hessee went to Republic, Monday night to attend her daughter-in-law Mrs. Fred Hessee, who is very low with rheumatism.

Winslow Porter of Cameron, Mo., was in this city Wednesday. He was a shoolmate of E. N. Meador, editor of the Republican, at the State University.

Miss Lela Vanzandt came home from Fairland, Okl., on the 12th and remained until 14th, with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Walter Vanzandt and family. She was accompanied by Miss Pudge Chandler and Paul Baker.

Wm. Pearl purchased Cyril Reese residence in LeCompte additon last week. Mr. Pearl will move here.

Jesse Chappell is at the home of his father Rev. Edward Chappell in this city, from Breckenridge, Texas, where he was injured in the oil fields.

Hon. Wilson Cardwell of Springdale, Arkansas, will address the meeting of berry growers at Butterfield, next Thursday. Don't fail to hear him.

HARRY LOVE KERR DEAD

Harry L. Kerr died at his home near Oak Ridge, on March 11, 1920, of flu-pneumonia, age 34 years, 11 months and 27 days. On Feb 17, 1910, he and Miss Susie McVay were married at Alva, Okla., and to this union were born 4 children 3 surviving the father, Sylvester aged 8, Hazel 6 and Lela 3 years of age. The wife also survives the husband. He was a member of the Baptist Church, W. O. W. of Cassville and Masonic Order at Sapulpa, Okla. His nick name Happy, applied to his good natured soul, as he was always cheerful and sunny. Was a lover of music, especially songs and his favorite songs were "Safe to the Arms of Jesus, Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." His favorite scripture was Matthew 5th. When we cross the stream of life, we will find Happy on the beautiful isle of somewhere, to welcome his loved ones home. The bereaved family return their heartfelt thanks to the good people for every kind act extended to them during their trying hours.. A NEIGHBOR.

NEIGHBORING NEWS

A. H. Cox of Monett has sold his drug store at that place to Jackson Drug Co.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Tom O'Dwyer of northwest of Purdy, a son.

Jesse Arnhart of Marionville, died on the 10th at the home of daughter, Mrs. Fred Parks of that place, aged 70 years, 7 months and 3 days. Mr. Arnhart was born in Barry County, Aug. 7, 1850, near Seligman, moved to Lawrence County many yaears ago where he had resided. He is survived by three sons and one daughter. He was related to the Arnhart family of Barry County.

Captain J. R. VanZandt of near Branson, Taney county, died March 10, 1920, aged 95 years, 4 months and 10 days. He had been the father of 12 children, eight of whom survive the father. He was a Mexican war veteran and also of Civil War and was a Captain in Co., K, 24th Inv. He served under General Thomas and participated in the battles of Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, Chickamanga, Chattanooga and other engagements. He was a Methodist circuit rider for years. He had lived at Fordland, Webster county years ago. He was a brother of late Thomas VanZandt a well known and highly respected citizen of this county, and an uncle of Walter VanZandt of this city, Rev. Chas. Vanzandt of Exeter and Tom VanZandt of Eagle Rock. Also Jas. Vanzandt of Los Angeles, Cal., and Geo. Vanzandt of Cheyenne, Wyo. He had represented Taney count in state legislature. [Spellings of VanZandt are as printed.]

The remains of A. H. Rogers president of the Soutwest Missouri Railroad Company and the Joplin Globe Publishing Co., who died in California, were shipped home and interred in Mount Hope Cemetery on the 12th.
FOREST GROVE

Dr. Mitchell was called one day last week to see Roy Beeson who was real sick a few days, but is on the improve and able to be out.

Vance Hall is visiting his son, Homer and family.

Theo. Gordon and family spent Sunday with Mrs. Gordon's parents Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Adams of Butterfield. They were accompanied home by their daughter Miss Lora, who has been near Pierce City attending school the past few weeks.

Our school started again Monday after four weeks vacation on account of the flu.
SHELL KNOB

Silas McDougal writes from Dallas Oregon, that they are well located and like the country well. That country is a great fruit country and they have had a fine winter there.

Mrs. Lizzie Hames who has been on a visit in Colorado for 6 or 8 months, has returned to the home of her brother Fletcher Cooper.

The following parties of the Knob have moved this: Isaac Epperly to the Dr. Salyer property; Wiley Whissman to the S. T. Ledgerwood property vacated by Isaac Epperly; Walter Owens to the property vacated by Wiley Whissman.
EAGLE ROCK

Flu is still bad in this community. C. D. Smith is reported to have ten cases in his home.

Mr. and Mrs. Noel Curry moved Saturday on one of the Charley Currys farms where they will make their future home.

The Munsey school closed Friday on account of so much flu in that community.

Arthur Ball and wife and Silas Ball have the flu.

George Dell and family of Mano, have moved on Washburn Prairie.

Mr. and Mrs. Farrington will leave soon for their new home in Kansas City. We regret to lose them. A. W. Maloney has rented Mr. Farrington's place and will take charge at once. Reuben Maloney is moving on the farm which A.W. Maloney vacated.

I. N. Garrett of Eagle Rock died Sunday morning at 8 o'clock of flu-pneumonia. After funeral services by Jackson Vanover, the remains were laid to rest in the Munsey Cemetery, Monday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Easley spent Saturday night and a portion of Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Holman.

Miss Augusta Shaffer is visting her grandparents Rev. and Mrs. F. M. Smallwood.

Loy and Troy Holman of Seligman are visting their Uncle Will Holman and family.

Mrs. J. F. Pike is sick, she is threatened with pneumonia.

Mrs. Dr. Morton (nee) Inez Warf, of st. Louis, visited homefolks, Sunday.

Cleo Wilder is arranging to move to Oklahoma.

David Talbert and wife of Seligman, visited his sister, Mrs. Worley of Exeter.

Mr. Cage an aged man of the Thomas Hollow country, died Saturday and was buried at Concord Sunday.

Ben Seitz has moved back to the Flat Creek.

We learn since we began to write these items that Mrs. Ira Stockton passed away. We have not heard any particulars.

W. C. Potter is talking of closing out his business here and going to Okla. He is going to sell everything here except his home place.
WASHBURN - Greasy

James Mooney sold 20 acres of land to Frank Armstrong, this gives Mr. Armstrong connection under the railroad track between two farms which is better than crossing the track.

Joe Rowley is home and has temporary charge of Horton's store.

Am Rowley has moved to hsi town house and Andrew Burnett has possession of Mr. Rowley's farm, which he has leased.

Mooney says fruit buds are in good condtion including Elberta peaches, this Barry County stuff must be iron clad.

Robert Graham from Brush Creek has bought a house and 1 acre of dirt from Byrnes Dudley.

John Williams has moved his family to his truck farm, on the state highway.

Monty Kemp is here visiting. He will go to Wichita Falls, Texas, the last of the week; he has a postiion with a Railroad company.

Rosebert Linebargers little boy is very sick with stomache troubles.

Bailey Turner is driving a new horse Saturday. There is something going to happen, look out girls.
MAPLE GROVE

It was a mistake about Della Stockton going home with the flu.

Jim Arnhart and wife from Joplin, Mo., have been visiting with their relatives and friends the past week. He is a brother of Mrs. E. G. Klous.
