Burned To Death

Mrs. Robert Miles, aged 77 years, was burned to death at the Miles home two miles north of Seneca on Tuesday afternoon of last week. The horrible accident occurred while Mrs. Miles was burning some leaves about the home. Her clothing caught fire and she was unable to put it out. Her husband who is 81 years old was away from the house until about the middle of the afternoon returned and did not find his wife at the house. After waiting a short time he went out to look for eggs at the hen house and while out discovered what had happened.

Mr. and Mrs. Miles formerly lived in the Rock creek locality in this county and will be remembered by the people in that community.

Card Shower For Soldier

Weatherford, Okla.,

April 10, 1919

To Editor and Readers of the Cassville REPUBLICAN:

My son Oliver is now at Ft. Riley, Kan., Base Hospital, Ward K and is in a serious condition, having been operated on for the third time last Wednesday. He is keeping up his spirits as best he can but I believe it would cheer him up wonderfully if he could have an encouraging word from his old friends in Barry County, his old home.

A post card shower has been suggested for him on April 22. He needs words of cheer. I am sure we have many dear old friends who will gladly send a card.

Thanking all who join in this act of kindness, I am,

Sincerely yours,

W. R. Crane
